Yes, eventually we hope to remove it since the new map should better cover the same functions. umm dont remove that, its best use is to use the directional scanner telling which direction someone is with out using scanner probes to bust safespots.... really i would only need the system 1 tells u how wide ur angle is by visuals and what direction your facing u can take out the universe region and constellation now if you made a 3d version of that showing the projection of the range and degree of view that your dscan is using and ship is facing then u can take that away
If they added an overlay to the system map that showed a 3d cone kind of like a probe bubble based on the degree and range of your D-scan and the direction your camera is pointing that you could set to hide/show from the d-scan window that would be awesome.

CCP doing it right. Now enable seamlessly scrolling back from your ship's guns via the grid and the system map to the universe map, and i'll be forever immersed in EVE. (But make it toggleable, so you don't see the entire universe every time you just wanted to see the whole grid. Like Ctrl+Scroll) |

tl;dr - my fears were unfounded and I'm really liking the direction eve is taking with all the UI changes including this very freaking nice map update. Even if you only live up to half of your desired functionality in the future, it'll still be pretty amazing.
My initial reactions (while i'm patching my sisi client) are that we've heard the talk about a "seamless map transition" before, and that was a not-so-clever "misuse" of the language. Also, The dev blog made it seem like the new map wouldn't have the "flattened" mode that I've used since beta. I do love the 3d map, don't get me wrong, I just find the most use from the flattened map. Not in a 51% of the time kind of "most", but more of a 99% of the time most.
.... sisi patched FAR faster than I thought it would.
You don't call it flattened mode now, you call it "abstract mode" and I can see why. It's still a 3d map that you can rotate in any direction, but you've put all the regions/systems on a flat plane. VERY FREAKING NICE. Unfortunately, I spawned in a WH system without realizing it, so I took like 3 minutes wondering how to find myself before I saw the problem. Once I used the moveme bot and re-opened the map, woooooooooooooooooooooooooooow. Very nice.
And to my first concern about "seamless map transition" you're 2/3 of the way there now. But I think maybe my expectation of being able to just scroll my mouse wheel out til my ship is a tiny dot, then keep scrolling to get to the system view, then keep scrolling to get to the universe view is a little unreasonable. Maybe. A guy can dream, right?
end
p.s. can we start up another petition to open the damn door again? I want to play the strategy game they told us was working! I want to see other characters walk around and sit at a table when I'm talking to them in a chat window. I understand it adds zero functionality/choice/mechanics to the game, but I don't care. A guy can dream about that too, right?

Not having to do this would be a great improvement for the map, the overview, chat windows, and a great many other windows.
Agreed. I'm running 3x 1200p monitors (Dell U2412M), and Eve doesn't let me just use 2 of them.
Across all three screens, 5760x1200, the FOV becomes ludicrously compressed i.e. aking to viewing the game through a thin slit. You only see a tiny slice of the vertical plane, and with everything being so big due to this it's nearly impossible to maintain situational awareness. If you zoom out enough to see a station, you can no longer see your ship etc.
As a result I'm confined to just using 1x screen, which alas is too low resolution I feel to properly see space & windows. Thus I'm now saving for the new Dell U3415W.
If the devs could have a look at adjustable [vertical] FOV for multi monitor users then that'd be absolutely awesome.
But I digress.
The new maps look awesome. I was super excited to see the map in a window and yelled out my delight the second CCP Rise previewed that at the EDU. :) |

Okay, legit feedback after playing around with the map for a bit:
1. There's no hover text. I should be able to see the information I've selected in my filter in some way other than a colored dot. I imagine this is in the works, because it is one of the most useful features of the current F10 map.
2. I'd like there to be some sort of button/toggle so that when I'm in abstract mode, I can't rotate the map at all. Or a button to re-orient the map to its default orientation.
3. The "You are here" target is great, but kind of hard to see. White triangle, white icon, white region names... it all kind of blends together. Same for the "home" icon.
4. When opening a sub-menu in the star color-wheel, especially the lower ones, I shouldn't have to scroll the mouse to see the options I just said I wanted to look at. Either the dropdown should be extended or it should automatically scroll to show those options when you click the group (statistics, my information, industry, etc).
5. It would be nice to have a hotkey, or another button somewhere, to quickly re-center the map on where you are, or on your home, or on your "selected" system.
6. Every time you turn on "abstract mode" the map zooms all the way out.
7. There's no way to have the map "follow" or "stay centered" on your ship as you warp around a system.
8. Planets/moons/BOOKMARKS/etc aren't displayed on the map. You can't right click on the sun to warp to it. I do like how you can dock at a station or jump through a gate from the map view.
9. You can't just zoom in on various system names to see the system contents, you have to actually click on the system name. Doing this prevents you from seeing the system contents of the one you were just looking at a moment ago.
10. The autopilot line doesn't extend all the way to a station if that is your destination, just to the incoming gate of the final system.
11. There's no way to click on some system names to see their contents because another label is covering the system name label. For example, Amarr. The label "Amarr Home Worlds" is covering up the system name of "Amarr". The only way I can see the solar system view of Amarr is by clicking on the "home" icon I have set there. I imagine this happens in other cases too.
12. The "Floating Mode" is like a window, but it doesn't act like any of the other windows in eve in one respect. There's no title bar to double click on to minimize the window to just a bar like you can with all the others. My only options are to close the window or drag it manually to the bottom of the screen to get it out of the way if I need to see my actual ship view in a hurry.
13. While in "Floating Mode", The only way to make the map be on top of every other window, is to click the pseudo-title bar. Otherwise, all your manipulation of the map occurs underneath your other windows. Upon further consideration, I like this default behavior, but I think you should be able to toggle if you want the window to always be on top or always be under, or something along those lines.
14. If you turn off abstract mode, while zoomed in on a random system, the map centers itself to some random place in the middle of nowhere. So you have to find the place you were looking at before, all over again. It should stay centered on whatever system/region/item you had selected before you toggled the abstract mode. Going from non-abstract to abstract works as expected; the centering remains fixed on your current selection.
I know that was quite a bit of criticism, and more than a fair share of personal preference complaints in there, but I believe all of these were valid feedback points that should be considered by the managing team.
Despite all of these issues, I really really really REALLY love this new map, and I hope you're able to devote the time and resources it deserves to make it as awesome as we all know it can be. THANK YOU for another great UI improvement.

Also I find the lack of unstack on hover disturbing. The amount of systems wth multiple belts, stations and other things close together should warrant the hover unstack we currently have with brackets in space right now so you don't spend ten minutes click the same stack of icons just to get the one you wanted.
But overall, I love the new map, it's in line with all the other UI changes and looks amazing.

I've always wanted a tactical map that was specific to my location (or any location I specify). That is:
The system I am in is in the map center. All the other systems are arranged in rings about the center. On a ring just outside of the map enter are all the systems one jump from me. On the next ring out are all the systems that are two jumps out.
And so on.
Obviously, this map would be specific to each system, and would have to be procedurally generated.

Pretty much every window in the game that has a close button has its close button in the top-right corner.
Please, move the close button for the new map (in windowed mode) to the top-right, too. I keep finding myself hovering in that direction when trying to close it, then realizing after a second it isn't there.

You mention it is being worked on, but the markers definitely need to stand out more. For instance, if I elect to show avoidance systems on the map the highlight for Jita is barely visible. If I didn't have a good idea where it was already, I would have thought I had no systems on my avoidance list.
Also, in trying to align the visible superluminal effect from W477-P, it appears to be out of alignment between observed markers within the map and in space. Just an observation. |

Bugs:
- Changes in coloration for labeling are too subtle to tell.
- With the map docked, the view gets messed up on session change requiring you to resize the map to reset the view. Specifically it acts like the map isn't docked centering the ship in the center of the client window, not the adjusted center taking docking into account.
- Sometimes clicking on a region label in non-abstract mode, and grouped by region will not expand the region.
- Changing the avoidance state of a system doesn't update the map when the map is showing "Avoidance Systems" until after you re-select it.
- While in space with the map up (tested floating), if you right click on something the menu will be transparent and show what's behind it.
- Sometimes the lines from system-to-system are drawn from the center star instead of from the stargates (both abstract and non-abstract mode).
- In abstract mode, grouping by constellation, when switching between systems sometimes lines will be drawn that don't seem to connect to anything.
- Often when changing selection while in grouped mode, the old stars won't collapse.
- Sometimes a system can get stuck in a state that makes it look selected even when it isn't.
Feedback:
- No tool tips is a big problem.
- Hovering over a cluster of objects in the zoomed in view doesn't separate them making some things impossible to click/activate.
- If the map is closed and re-opened, it should return to the previous view instead of re-centering on you. There should also be a shortcut or button for re-centering.
- I'd like to see toggles for celestials like on the compass, but without having to navigate a dialog or sub-menu (the way the compass does it is okay). Basically, something that is easily toggle-able on the fly.
- Labels need to brighten a bit more quickly in abstract mode.
- The grouping icon looks a lot like a probe formation. This was initially confusing.
- After you click-navigate to another system in the map there needs to be an easy way to reset your view. If you mis-click on a star in the distance it's really annoying to get back.
- Route highlighting is too subtle on the map to see when the color of the stars is green (esp. bad with sec status coloration in high sec.)
- When a system is selected, but off-alignment as done my right-click dragging, it isn't necessarily intuitive that you can re-click on the map to reset the alignment.
- Setting a home station requires being in station for some reason.
- Hovering over a stargate should give you information about the system it links to. (Name, Sec Status, and information based on the current color highlight is a good start).
- When a system is selected, all connected systems should have visible labels. This typically happens with constellation/region gates.
- The averaging effect that happens for highlighting in groups makes seeing certain information almost impossible at that level. E.g. Security Services at the region grouping level.
- Cool aspect of the map and weird realization about EVE. Constellations don't have to be connected. I had never realized that Hulm was in the Ortner constellation.
- Region connections (dashed lines) and constellation connections (slightly different dashed lines) can be hard to tell apart.
- Can no coloration (white) be an option for stars?
- The stars moving on stars effect while in space as the camera bobs up and down can be a little nauseating.
- Info screens for regions, constellations, and planets should have their mini-maps updated.
- It would be awesome and potentially fun for an artist to create representations for each constellation. It might make them more memorable. (Think of Orion, the Hunter super-imposed over the Orion constellation).

Hey!
Been waiting for this :)
1. When zoomed in, I would like to see bookmarks, so I could quickly warp into them after entering the system. 2. Limitless pins/markers for player to stick where ever (moon, planet, station etc.) to include note. 3. A huge range or pins/marker icons for players to fill their map and personalize it. 4. Give the in-game map the importance it should have had from the beginning, that we cant live without!
Good work, thanks!

When I have zoomed in and I see gates, will there be any way on map to get to the other end of the jump? If not there should be an arrow/triangle or something that would make it easy to follow a route manually back and forth by clicking it. Also related to previous: if I point and press jump-gate I should be able to see that that j-g has been selected and if I press the suggested arrow/triangle, Im landing to other system and my arrival j-g will be also highlighted.

The new map is looking good.
Useful things to add to the current map: 1) When using filters to find things like clone facilities, it would be helpful to have the station also highlighted so it is easier to find in a systems with multiple stations. (Having an option to show closest and have it set as destination would always be helpful). 2) System summary when zoomed in on a system, how many people in it, how many jumps that day, how many in space/docked, kills in the last hour/day, always useful info to have. 3) Tool tips for the stations and other celestial objects, so you at least know what you are looking at. 4) Show locations of Corp (hopefully one day Alliance) assets in space, from Secure Containers to Starbases, seeing the locations of them on a map would be helpful at times. 5) Show the locations of bookmarks. 6) A tagging or pin system if you want to record something of interest.
Tactical Map If there is ever such a thing as a tactical map, then something that can switch between a real-time 2D/3D representation of a target system would be really useful. There are times when planning an attack it would be nice to be able to get an idea of what the scout is seeing without having to FC and be all the scouts as well. 1) It doesn't need to have little models of ships flying around, color coded ship representations would be enough, e.g. white for neutrals, red for enemies, purple for fleet. This could be generated from what your scouts see and only what they can see. 2) Begin able to issue commands to Wing/Squad commanders or even move a Wing/Squad from the tactical map would give a new strategic level to fleet combat. 3) System data, a summary of what is being processed by the scouts to give an idea of what is in system, so number of friendly ships, number of "known" enemy ships, "known" ships and pilots (this one might not be practical in a massive fleet fight) generally any useful and relevant information to making command decisions. 4) Distinguishing between piloted and un-piloted vessels, and friendly cloaked and uncloaked vessels.
Wormhole Mapping This one could be interesting, as third party programs are ok for this, but it does lack any connection to the game, and doesn't really support movement as such (you know where you are going that is it). Some of the issues around WH mapping are the bookmarks for the WH having no connection to a map so if you have a chain set up and want to move a fleet fast, you cant just set destination (I am cool with that and I am used to it, just pointing it out). Moving around WH space is very reliant on bookmarks, and if you are in alliance or working with allies then sharing this is painful, some of it would be fixed with Alliance bookmarks. So that is kinda where we are in WHs now I guess.
So if I were to design a system for surveying WH systems: 1) It would have to be based off of bookmarks, maybe making it easy to add and remove chains. Adding a WH should be as simple as jumping into the system and clicking the WH and it is added to the chain and by deleting the first bookmark of that chain all the related ones are removed. 2) Being able to share WH chains to allies would be helpful, maybe simply dragging a link into a channel and clicking on it would be helpful.
The map for WH systems: 1) it would need to store and show both notes on things found in the system and bookmarks unrelated to any WH chain, so if you have visited, POS and ownership information are retained. 2) Being able to see all WH systems and switch to being able to see the ones in your current chain. 3) Clear distinction between the different types of WH systems C1, C2 etc. And the types of connections between them, Frigate Hole, Capital Hole. 4) Information on the WH, Could give estimated mass left on holes based on friendly traffic through it, Estimated time to collapse, (It would be nice to have some kind of probe to make that data more exact). 5) Information on WH systems could be displayed better, as you can get so much from Dotlan, it would be nice to get the same in game too, for example what effects are present in that system. 6) Being able to give friendly names to the WH's in the chain, even if they are only internal Corp/Alliance use and allow them the be stored for the next time you connect (it would be cool if this could appear next to the system name even out of map view). 7) Also being able to set destination based off of the chain would be useful for moving a fleet around and stop pilots warping to the wrong hole or old bookmarks.
For WH space it is all temporary and having a system all members of a Corp/Allaince can access and get the right information at the right time could make for more interesting encounters and speed up fights happening. If you are working with people and can share the locations of WHs instantly (within 5 mins at least) instead of transferring bookmarks to a can and flying out to meet people it would be a massive time saver.

We could have a start tracking and stop tracking buttons/menus and nce started every time you jump ina system its color would change (or maybe a filter could show it). |

I would love something like this. I want to start logging my travels as I plan to do some siteseeing soon. Having a history of my travels would be really great.
To go beyond just the map, I'd love a tool (is there any similar 3rd party ones for something like this?) where I could essentially journal my travels, add screenshots and notes. Yummy.

Love the new visuals, the seamless transition from star to constellation, the windowed mod, etc... Without repeating a tone of stuff already mentioned, I did notice one thing. When you select the statistics filter for "my assets", they can hardly be seen in the myriad of stars. They need to be brighter and far bigger on the star map.
