I usually don't post ideas that aren't fully fleshed out, but I thought some of the denizens of this forums might be able to help. Please keep in mind that good ideas for features are usually as simple as possible, so avoid adding complexity to this.
I would like to see a module that can be fitted to a ship specifically to trick ship and cargo scanners. This would allow for baiting gank fleets in high sec with battle/ecm fit ships.
For the ship scanner module, it would probably be a high slot module (or maybe mid slot) that could return dummy results to the ship scanner. Because ship scanners are already inconsistent in their success, returning random modules would allow the fake scans to be detected if the ship was scanned enough. Scripts could be used to increase or decrease the value of the fake results returned, while running it unscripted would usually return t2 results.
For the cargo scanner, some changes might be necessary to how cargo scanner success rates work, but perhaps a result could be generated upon module activation, and will show for every failed cargo scan until the module is deactivated. A t2 or faction variant could reduce the chance of a successful scan. Again, scripts could be used to show more or less valuable results.
Let me know what you guys think, but I would love to see battle ecm fit hulks or similar with these sorts of modules fit., or buffer fit orcas baiting ganks.

Contrary to your idea I think that ship scanners are already too annoying to use for determining a fit and need serious improvements at least in UI but preferably in functionality as well. The requirement to have a lock on the target and perform multiple scans is already enough protection for the ship being scanned and there are multiple methods to refit in space in order to bait. |

Perhaps you could have a script for cloaking cargo, so some or all of it doesn't scan at all, or returns as unknown items of unknown value as well as a script to return higher value and a script for lower value? Possibly it could also be used in some fashion as a mechanism to get the illegal narcotics working properly so that smuggling could become a legitimate occupation.
Regardless of the technical details I think it sound like a fun idea, it would certainly make things more interesting for all concerned! |

I don't think scanning should make you suspect, but a way to detect when you're being scanned would be useful.
When your are being scanned you know it (or at least have a very good idea of it) as you have to be targeted first and will see the flashy yellow box. Unless of course the scanner fits another module, the passive targeter, to hide that fact they are scanning/targeting you. Are you suggesting that there be a counter-measure to that? Like a passive targeting detection module?
Might be interesting, but I am not sure anyone would ever bother to fit it.
Sabriz Adoudel for CSM 10 is a good idea.

You can already detect cargo scans, they're visible in space and make a distinct noise. This happens regardless of whether the scanner used a passive targeting module. |
