So if you use a faction item on a faction ship, it gets a bonus.
So Sisters of EVE ships give bonus to their probes and stuff,
Navy edition ships get more dmg from navy ammo,
Pirate modules get more effectiveness on Pirate ships.
Obviously it can't be much (I'm thinking <5% total) but I think it would just make sense that a faction that makes modules and ships optimize them to work well together.
But this could as well be something for the one line bad idea thread... |

I do like the thought of an entirely matched imperial navy apocalypse.

I would definitely make modules that are worthless now much more valuable but one can pretty clearly see the balancing issues it creates.

Oh completely yes, definitely a terrible idea but it's somewhat of a charming idea nonetheless.

Well a bonus was the first thing that came to mind but depending on how the whole ship skin project turns out, it could allow one pirate ornament per pirate item on your ship.

If faction/pirate weapons and modules were much less costly, I could see where CCP could just factor this into balance (though it would take a lot of effort).
So, in my mind, I don't see the balance necessarily the issue, but the costs of building the ship vs the return on investment that is the ultimate issue...
Not worth the costs for a small buff, and if the costs were worth it, then faction weapons would have to completely be rebalanced as a whole so that everyone and their brother wouldn't go pure faction...
It's basically a no win situation, though I do admit, cosmetically it would be awesome... |

I actually like this idea.
Could be like the tacky statues of the fat junkyard lady from Borderlands. Just strap em on anywhere.
But a definite no to any bonuses. |

yeah, but the problem then becomes - You now own a blinged out ship that's essentially worthless because the cost vs effectiveness is not in your favor.
This would basically be a ship you show off at parties, but ultimately, you'd have another one fitted with t2 guns and several other t2 modules that is much more cost efficient.
Hell, you probably wouldn't even put rigs on your blinged out ship, unless you just wanted to make it worth that much more...
At best, you'd use it for high sec PVE, though you wouldn't be as effective as you would using t2 guns... |

I think you highly overestimate the seriousness level of the EVE playerbase.
True, faction guns are in a less than ideal spot atm, but that's completely aside the point.
You don't fly a shiny, ornamental, less than perfectly efficient ship because you are trying to get the most out of every isk.
You do it cause it amuses you, and amuses your enemy, and makes everyone who see's it snicker a bit at your space of equivalent of a gold plated Tommy Gun. Plus it generates an awesome kill-mail in it's eventual destruction. |

Im with anhenka on this,
cosmetic upgrades could be fun, but def no to any stat bonus.
P.S. hopefully any shortcomings with faction guns will be addressed during module tieracide.

good idea at a glance but all this really serves to do is lower choices and stifle player creativity |

How? You can still just not fit them like that. |

Fit all same faction mods -> get boosts Dont fit all faction mods or mixed mods - > dont get boosts
its about as meaningful a choice as having a link booster in fleet or not, to which the answer is always: yes if we've got one.

Oh yes, based on the feedback I thought that wasn't even an option anymore... That would be a boring "choice", you're right. |
