Hi everyone,
I'm looking to buy a sub-cap PvP- char, and hoping you could help me filter out what char I should be looking for. My budget is not limitless, but up to 100 bil is my max limit. I want this as my new main.
I have little clue on PVP, and I know it's not the account, but the players that makes all the difference, but hopefully I learn, so if I where to buy a high-sp char, I maaay some day be able to use it's "full" potential. What do you think?
Thanks in advance

All support skills up to 5, all weapon spec skills to 4 with a few at 5, ship skills at 5.
A maxed out sub cap pilot with everything at 5 for BS and below will be 50b over your budget if you can find one. The only one I know that was near that level I sold a few months ago for 135b at 180m SP.

You'll be able to get a good character for that budget.
I agree with the previous post - look for solid support skills and maxed out weapon skills. If you are looking to save money you might be able to find a character with good support skills but only trained to fly certain races and weapon types. Then you can fill in the gaps over time.
Edit:
By support skills I mean - fitting skills, navigation, targeting, etc. The other skills to look at carefully are the gunnery/missile/drone support skills like 'sharpshooter' which apply to all different weapons of that family. Eg. Sharpshooter will increase the effectiveness of autocannons and lasers and hybrids. Having them trained to IV or V will significantly increase the effectiveness of a character and make training other gun types extra easy. |

Great, thanks for clearifying :)
I'm looking for chars like these 2, would you say they are good chars to continue to train? They seem very good to me, pricy yes, but if I'm going to play the game, I'm going all in :)

They both look pretty solid to me, if you are looking for a good combat pilot.
there are some gaps - eg the first one needs some work in the targeting department.
Obviously not so good if you are looking for a leadership or links character, or want to use lots of electronic warefare, but would not take too long to fill those gaps.
They both have more skillpoints than me... |

You'd be very surprised of how many of those skills you'll never need (those chars have all 4 Strategic cruisers skills to lvl5 for example). Another example: I highly doubt you'll fly Battleships of all 4 races in the first year of your game.
In your place I'd buy a nice char with 50mil SP for a much lower budget than you're talking about, that has a good PvP base, and take it from there. Specilize on what you'll figure out is best for you. It's also how you learn the game better.
I'll use my vid as an example ok? I fly battle logistics in this video. Do you know how few skills one needs to fly these perfectly? I'm not saying you won't need a BS5 skill, but I'm saying you don't need all four, and the same goes for many skills on those chars. If you buy a 50mil SP char, you can always skill something new in a matter of a month, as you'll already have the solid base for it.
My advice: spend ~20bil instead of 100 on the char. |

that is a good point he makes. If i would start i would probably choose one who has the gun support skills to 5 and all fitting skills to 5. primary guns small medium large something doesnt have to be trained. Fitting (cap included) skills 5 and navigation skills 4 upwards. Ship hulls und the primary gun skills i would train up myself on the go as i get a feeling for the ships. Social skills u might want trained if u think u will do alot of missions if u mainly focus on ratting and pvp they can be ignored.
Mostly at the beginning u will fly small ships that their loss, which will happen, wont hurt that much |
