I'm pretty sure this is a troll post, but I'll bite, waiting on the patch to download.
Why are you asking for SOLO content in a MASSIVELY MULTIPLAYER online role playing game?
Going off the patch notes, CCP has done an excellent job adding new content, fixing bugs, and adding little things that add up to big things. You explicitly state that Crucible means ZERO gameplay to you. Given the fact that almost all the enhancements were bug fixes and pertain to things outside of the ship hangar (if you don't want to undock, there's the ship spin counter), if they have no value to you, it means you have no use to the community. This may sound harsh, but if you don't do things outside of a station (aside from trading), you're simply a placeholder adding to the server load.
TL:DR If you want to play with yourself, you need to look elsewhere on the interwebz. If you want more Spaceship Barbie content, head to Amarr local and wait, s/he has yet to disappoint.

Long may this approach continue. As ever, get the bug fixes in ASAP for Crucible and then work on the next big thing(s)
Well done to all concerned getting this "expansion" out so fast with so many small but significant changes in (as well as the few big changes). Bet there was a real buzz in the office

Yes CCP did add content and gameplay, but his perspective is clearly personal as is most players. That means if an expansion doesn't provide him for new/more things to do, it doesn't add any real value to his gameplay.
He is propably asking for more solo content, since in reality large part of many peoples gameplay is playing solo even in MMOs. Maybe if you're part of a large entity you always have several others ready to do exactly what you want to do, but everyone else has to often do solo content when they log on or they might as well not log on at all. Point being it's in CCPs best interest to keep that reality in mind and provide reasons for people to still log on even when their corp/friends aren't on or are doing other things.
Casual content is important, since not everyone has the time or inclination to do long or stresful activities every time they log on. Sometimes you have 30 mins to play or just want to relax a bit after a stressful day. Either CCP provides activities for these situations or again people might as well not log on when they are in one and the more they find themselves in these situations the less reasons they have to stay subbed.
PvE content is important, since it can be made to cater very easily to all of the above in addition to providing groups things to do. It also provides reasons for people to be in space where others can interact and pew-pew them, so even if they don't want to group PvP, they still provide others with targets and more things to do. More people logging on and doing things in space means more activity and more things to do for everyone in EVE and that means more subs and monies for CCP.
Focusing only on group activities even in an MMO means, that many people will stop playing very quickly, because people play and pay for their own personal enjoyment. That will include group activities for most players, but even for them that isn't going tto be always enough. It's therefore in CCPs best interest and good for the health of the game to make sure as many people as possible can find things to do and enjoy the game every time they log on, no matter their circumstances at the time and that will mean you either provide good amounts of solo content or they'll GTFO sooner rather than later. Ignoring the trolls and chest beating wannabe tough guys, that result is bad for everyone who wants to see EVE thrive and continue to do so long in to the future. |

+ 1 for CCP
Nice patch, eh, "expansion".
The polish this one brings was much needed.
I hope this is the start of a new great era of EvE like the time back around Red Moon Rising. That does require you to keep delivering on this level though. But I have regained faith for now. Keep it up! |

A nice casual dev blog, though I'll have to agree with some in that it was a little hard to follow. That said, advice on bear attacks should never be ignored even if unsolicited.
Pursuant to CCP Soundwave's righteous admission in the dev blog that "Constant ship/module balance is really the cornerstone of maintaining a healthy live game" and the fact that a reassessment of Assault Ships has been promised for a post-Crucible deployment patch, I'd like to direct both CCP and the community's attention to the following forum thread in Features & Ideas (same as the one linked in my signature).
Thread
With the help of a lot of constructive community feedback, I have proposed a series of changes to, as well as recommendations for the 4th bonus for Assault Ships - we're already into a second draft for most. It is my hope that CCP will take the opportunity before them to crystallize the role of Assault Ships as baby-HACs and bring some much-needed consistency to the lineup. My recommendations revolve around bringing up the bottom-end of DPS that these ships do while enhancing their appeal to pilots of all experience levels.
I look forward to continued community feedback as well as hopefully, a word or two from a developer of our favourite game.
Cheers! Assault Ships - Retribution Fix and Balancing Proposal for Upcoming 4th Bonus |

i don't have time to waste not having fun.
And there is no bloody alternative to this game.
So, well, either I look for some new hobby (unlikely), play some new game (been there, done that, only EVE is EVE, dammit), or keep bitchin aorund this forums until some CCP vows that Summer 2012 expansion is gonna throw gameplay my way.
SOLO content. CASUAL content. PvE content. Space Barbies content.

The issue with this is that fundamentally, EvE is not a SOLO, CASUAL, PvE game where you dress up Space Barbies. It has never been that game. It COULD be that game in the future, which comes along with the benefit of widening the audience for EvE to include players like you, that share your interests.
However, the community has helped CCP come to the wise conclusion that expanding the game into new territory to try and attract players such as yourself can not come at the detriment of the players for whom EvE was original made for and those who continue to sustain CCP as a business. These players pay to play EvE, the MASSIVELY MULTIPLAYER, HARDCORE, PvP Centric, SPACESHIP game.
The reason for the uprising of the community was because the attempt to expand the game to more casual users resulted in the infamous "18 months" of next to no development for the core experience. Considering some of the very poor standards that remained in the core experience until now, this plan both infuriated the original user base and put the entire business model in jeopardy.
Almost every one of those "core" users would fully support expanding EvE in the direction you are asking for, but that shouldn't make the core spaceship experience a sacrificial lamb to be neglected in the pursuit of potential revenue sources. EvE is already a game that supports a tremendous amount of "gameplay", with a huge diversity in potential experiences. Would you not agree that it is better for all of us if the gameplay that is introduced is polished to actually be GOOD gameplay, rather than pushed out unfinished in pursuit of MORE gameplay?
Who cares if EvE has 20,000 features if none of them are worth engaging with? A large portion of the best games in the industry succeed in part because they concentrate on a small feature set and try to do a few things exceptionally well.

Eve is a massively single shard Sci Fi sandbox that includes space ships from developers that have consistently promised an avatar experience. And all successful multi-user games include a mix of group and solo experiences because alot of players RL means that they can't always hook up with a group experience every time they log in.
Eve has failed to deliver anything new in the solo area and totally failed to deliver on the promise (after almost 4 years) of avatar or flight in atmosphere combat (the most forgotten promise of all).
No one wants space ships to be forgotten, but a lot of us want more and have stuck around waiting for CCP to deliver on those broken promises of a sci fi sandbox with more than we have gotten to date. We want the vision that CCP shared in the video at the last fanfest.

i have mixed feelings about that. While I don't mind lots of stuff done on FIS and I don't care at all about monocles, I was kinda looking forward to the ability to explore stations trying to locate shadowy figures in order to sell smuggled illegal stuff. Management of smuggling in empire is another part of this game that would need lots of work, and unfortunately get tossed out along with the rest of WIS. It seems to me like throwing the baby along with the dirty water. |

Yeah.
We actually had four features that we had to put on hold due to time constraints (they were half way done when our deadline hit) one of the was assault frigates. The good news is that we have half the work done, so they should be the next balanced class to be published :) |

All I can say is that I am happy with the direction of EVE. With the amount of work done to actual gameplay mechanics in only 4-6 short weeks. I can't imagine what a refocused developer team can do for us if they work hard for 6 or so months on this same type of expansion. Keep up the good work CCP and make sure the next expansion blows our minds out of the water. |

I share Soundwaves enthusiasm for the recent low-profile changes, that are big quality of life improvements for capsuleers. There is nothing worse than fighting the UI when you would rather fight space ships.
I'd love to see better usability for PI which I believe is holding it back. PI is physically painful and probably unhealthy in the long term. Keyboard shortcuts and the possibility of grouping facilities would make a big difference. |

I would expect a figure closer to 20 weeks (5 months or roughly 5x4 weeks)? * What was the other time spent on? * If this was the result of a 'last minute' change after/around the recent layoffs will the summer expansion contain about four times as much spaceship content since you'll have the full 6 months? And hoping against hope and my own common sense, any chance you can shed light on plans for the summer expansion? :P Regarding time spent, we worked on two other projects which were put on hold/scrapped due to various reasons, but the chief one being the change in direction for EVE (back to FiS). Can't promise you x quantity of stuff, just that we'll continue to do this stuff :)
While Eve is certainly the most known success of CCP has company I'm dam sure Dust514 will be the next cheered baby for you guys, I've followed a lot of comments vids etc to try to see what and where is the difference that may indeed please to regular shooters.
While not being my self a big fan of fps games, I do play sometimes with my sun who IS a fan of those. Didn't made to get his attention on space ships but I'm very sure Dust will get him around.
Hope for all of you people investing so much for what you've build from the scratch that Eve success is just the beginning.
Gratz, nice work on this expansion |
