Does depends on the reason you want to grind standings.

Standings are used for better ore refining, better missions, jump clones (though there's an easy way around this) and reduced trading fees. If you don't want any of those, don't bother with standings.
Or, instead of grinding for the sake of grinding, find out what you enjoy doing (by trying everything) and if you find that you need standings later, come back and work for them. |

As Elena said, if you grind because you think you must...stop right there and do something you find fun to do.
And judging by your lack of knowing why you should go for standings, it looks like this is the case. Otherwise you would have known why you would have needed standings and thus we could have pointed out how to find the right NPC corp to go for.
But as it is now.
First go out and find what you like to do. Then report back here Capsuleer.
p.s.
Standings:
Level 1.0 - Opens Level 2 agents Level 3.0 - Opens Level 3 agents. Level 5.0 - Opens Level 4 agents. Level 7.0 - Opens Level 5 agents. Level 8.0 - Opens up jumpclone setting
Beside that, higher standings in both corporation aswel as faction will reduce taxes on market transactions aswel as refining/reprocessing. (For refining the old style (haven't tried the new system cause I don't mine anymore) the magic number was 6.67 standings for NO tax on refining).

Thanks for the replies, I thought NPC corp are like rep vendors from wow where you grind rep to unlock specific vendors and buy them with loyalty points and different NPC corp offers different stuff. I like running mission in general and I thought aimlessly doing security mission is kinda ineffecient so I thought I maybe focusing on one faction to farm loyalty points would be beneficial. |

Okay. Stop right there
Remember everything you know about how WoW works......
Forget all of that
WoW is a theme park MMO where you are guided through a storyline of quest that progress you from new player to end-game.
EVE is a sandbox, we have no storyline, we have no quests, we have no endgame and we certainly have no ranking system.
I still am baffled why all the WoW players expect that EVE works like WoW. I used to play Civ a lot (still do), I never though...why isn't this game turn based. I used to play X games a lot, I never thought...why can't I have a trade empire where I can "command" multiple ships.
Missions are just an acitivy you can do in the sandbox.
You gain from them:
* ISK * Loyalty Points (which can be converted to in game items in the LP store, to be used or sold by you). * Standings (so you can get better agents, or a JC or less tax). * Occasionally in terms of storyline agents - you get an item.
That's it. There is no real progression other then going from level 1 agent up to level 4 / 5 agent....

Kinda...
If you do missions for a corp, they pay you partially with loyalty points. Those can be exchanged (with ISK and/or items) for faction items, implants, skill books, etc. That makes a good part of a mission runner's income.
Not much to do with grinding standings though, other than higher standing = better paying missions. The Caldari (who hate my guts) will offer me the same items from their LP stores as they'll offer anyone else.
As for which one, find a corp with good LP items (that's homework for you) and run missions for them. Again, not about standings, but more focused LP means you can buy more items.

Each empire has NPC corps. Each corp has agents, of levels 1-4. Each agent will give you random missions, from a pool of missions. Each corp also has an LP store that you can see in-game if you want. Typical fare in the LP store is implants, blueprints of various ships, actual ships, ammo, gear of various kinds.
It's a grind because the missions are random and there isn't an overall story arc. The majority of your income will come from:
- Mission reward cash (you get this when you complete the mission).
- Selling the loot that you gather in the mission. Obviously you have to stop and collect the loot, and most of it is junk that you're better off reprocessing and selling the minerals at the end of the week. Though some of it can get you a bit of cash. Stopping to collect the loot will double the time it takes you to finish missions.
- Salvaging the wrecks left behind by the exploded ships. This increases the time it takes to finish the mission too. Most of the salvage is crap; you can sell it in bulk at the end of the week. You need salvaging skills and tractor beam skills for this to be in any way efficient.
You also get LP points for completing the missions. You don't get a lot, but they do add up slowly. You can use the LP to buy one of the rarer things (implants, ships, etc) and then sell it on the market for cash. This is possible because there is no soulbound mechanic in this game.
So because there is no soulbound mechanic in this game, the simplest way for you to get the more rare ships or implants or whatever LP items, is to buy it from the market. Other players have already used their LP and you can just buy it cheaply from the market with credits.
If you want to try it out see if you like it, search for a level 1 agent from your race's Navy, and do a few missions. See what you get as far as rewards. You can also check out the LP store for the Navy when you get to the agent's station. And you can also check out the skills under the Social category that can improve the rewards by about 10% or so. But only train those if you feel that the grind is what you want to do.
But by all means do a few missions see if you like it. I agree with J'Poll's advice not to grind, but it's ok to try a few missions to form an opinion. Try mining in a Venture too, look at transporting your goods in an Industrial transport ship to a trade hub nearby, check out a scanning and probing tutorial and do some exploration, w/e.

If you are just looking at isk then Thukker or Sisters of Eve are the two corps to go for.
Sisters have a slight edge (in my opinion) as they have more and better level 4 agents (three L4 agents in high sec, more agents in null sec) that are in 0.5 or 0.6 systems, LP store is as good as Thukker and hasn't really depreciated that much in a long time. Thukker have more stations in npc null sec, e.g. Great Wildlands and have a good LP store. But they aren't opposing factions so you could do both or either.
Sisters have many high sec systems where you can get jump clones as well, not sure about Thukker.
Edit : usual caveats about play for fun, not a job etc :) |
