Years back (in 2008) there was a system introduced called Alchemy. It allows players to replace one moon mineral type with another in a reaction. Simultaneously, it created a bottelneck on a particulary R32 named: Technetium. While in the past R64 were the moons to own, it shifted to this R32. Before the alchemy changes even hit Tranquility, massive warnings from concerned players were given; ingame and out of game.
These R32 "existed completely in one distinct region of the game". The result of this massive isk injection, practically given to the lucky space inhabiters, combined with the poor sov mechanics led to a super capital arms race. The more supers the more moons you could capture and defend. With each moon equaling a mothership (16b) a month and having close to 200 in 1 region, it was a recipient for 0.0 geopolitical disaster.
As a result, certain powerbocs grew exponential. Small alliances were defenseless subjected and 0.0 stagnated in the big blue donut. As the butterfly affect is stong in EVE, even today, 6 years after, the consequences are still present.
The source damage got fixed two years later but on a personal level, integrity in ccp neurtality for certain playergroups has been compromised so much, that i simply didnt took eve seriously anymore. I stopped playing, withdrew all my activities and said: **** you eve. The general concensus in all of my corporation, in my alliance, cointained all the same attidude. I became a very disgruntled customer. And i still am! Pixels are pixels but thinking about the lost time; represented by effort and emotions; that hurts when they are flushed trough the toilet on such a way. The rules of customer satisfaction sais that it is harder to turn a disgruntled customer back into a satisfied one, than just turn a new fresh customer. But what if the new customer pool is only soo limited and most choisen advertising way of eve, by playing customers is by word of mouth?
Im problay going to far now, just some sunday ramblings of a old old eve veteran who's post get probaly trolled away on his grammar errors. Reminding him on his technetium warnings post's, which are hilarius given the fact it all came true.
The point: Now the responsible developer finaly left eve, i would like to raise the question; why so late? Years of potential growt has been ruined! |

This is the first we're hearing of this, truly shocking. How could this news not have reached us sooner? It's almost as though, and this might be a stretch, most of the playerbase was completely unaffected by moon goo geopolitics and didn't care.
I propose the creation of an Interstellar Court of Justice that charges and puts to trial, those who impact parts of the game that are really far away from me. In parallel, we will need a newspaper containing news about these issues, whose impact will be twofold. First, no more independent journalists like the OP will need to write GD threads about it, and second, I will be able to call the newspaper company and ask them to stop delivering. |

That's cool, but why can you use the forums if you left? Did you just pay a subscription fee for a forum post? I think it's pretty much universally agreed that a number of mechanics are in bad shape. Not at all limited to moons. So they're going to get fixed hopefully. No point in complaining it didn't happen sooner.
The UI is still bad.

Technetium was a symptom, like many other symptoms.
Why it took so long to fix? CCP never had a vision for EVE. It should have been a good thing. We create our own vision of it but CCP made a mistake. They proved to us that there is a wrong way to EVE and that our visions were not up to their standard and would be ignored.

Cause gaming companies are run by gamedesighners and not by marketeers or something similar? Dreamers instead of realists!
A bit of reflection on CCP's behalf would be wise (to never let his happen again). The OP hands out a perfect example, dunno if this was intended or not.

The last thing i heard was that alot of tech isk got spend in the purchasing of T2 bpo's by those alliances. With those nerfed into the ground, i guess a good ISK sink was created to get atleast some isk out of the markets. Too bad the lone empire puppies lost like 70% of their invested isk with the devaluation |

I followed moon minerals since pretty much they started.
Greyscale did make a total mess - I mean rarity was kind of sensible to begin with as in the most rare (64) was most valuable. They let him stuff that up and replace it with another arbitrary most rare of his choice. They also let him stuff up several other features.
I would say though that it was more CCPs failure of oversight and management of his work that was the issue.... I mean at that Technetium change time CCP had a University Professor of economics on staff - how did he not notice the "blockage" being shifted from a rarity 64 like Dysprosium to Technetium? How did the producer (Unifex?) let the changes go live without realising the impact.
Worse still was not fixing the issue in a timely manner once apparent (alchemy? trololol). You can tinfoil hat all you like, but it probably simply comes down to poor product knowledge from the upper echelons at CCP at that time rather than some concerted effort to help favourites as you suggest.
At the end of the day anyway its just a game - don't get your knickers in a twist now about some poor changes some dev once made just because he's gone. That's ironically stupid. |

Perfectly well said. While we know that Greyscale wasn't the only guy working at ccp (lol), his name was the most prominent one on a number of questionable actions. For me as a pve guy, the most memorable one was this one from 2011 that I liked to link all the time as an example of a poor thought process: Quote:Expected consequences GÇóSome alliances will immediately start wanting to look for better space GÇóIn the longer run, there'll be more conflicts going on, with more localized goals GÇóNewer alliances will have an easier time getting a foothold in nullsec GÇóCoalitions will be marginally less stable GÇóAlliances will have to choose more carefully what space they develop, where their staging systems are, and so on (low truesec systems generally tend to be in strategically inconvenient places)
They 'expected' all these nice things, but what really happened was someting of an exodus from null sec of pve alt characters (who were at least providing nice targets for roaming folks) to high sec and other places, adding to the stagnation eventually called "the blue donut".
The part you say about the tinfoil is spot on. People should never attribute something to malice when that thing can be explained by incompetence lol. As you said, sometimes , some folks at CCP displayed some ignorance about their own product. IMO it seems to be getting better now though.

"THE MAN" will always be in control. Not only do goonsworm and PL want to hold me down and make me an oppressed worker bee but so does CCP. And when they are all replaced by someone/something else that someone or something will be "THE MAN". The trick is figuring out how to outsmart them all and therein lies the satisfaction.
