So I'm flying in my thrasher... full load.. I click on group weapons and it won't let me because I don't have 0.10 cargo space. WTH!!??!!
Even if grouping weapons had anything to do with cargo space... It should still be functional as the modules hold the necessary ammo themselves.
Any ideas as to why this feature would not work the way it should? |

It's a hack and I believe it's related to ammunition.

apparently not... why would they require any more or any less cargo space when grouped than ungrouped?

I think it has to do with how the single weapons get combined into a new weapon, effectively replacing the old, single ones. Thus the ammunition needs to be unloaded from the single weapons for a moment and than put back into the new, combined weapon.
If there is no cargo space available, it can't be done because an item can't exist if it's nowhere stored. To avoid (random) loss of ammunition, the block is implemented.

This problem has been around since forever and is not limited to just ungrouping weapons it's just rare enough that you haven't noticed it before, before inventory revamp it was far more common to run out of space though. |

Yeah, I believe it is real thing but I rarely have anything beside 1 or 2k of ammo in my cargo so no wonder I never had this problem. And I would be totally WTF if I ever had.

If you hold is full of ammo, and you try to group your guns, you'll be told that your cargo is overloaded.
In order to group your guns, TQ needs to unload your guns, group them then reload them once they're grouped.
If your hold is full, there's nowhere for the unloaded ammo to go.

The creator of this limitation should be fired... wait he prob already left the company and it was never fixed.

OMG that make so much sense!!
Lets move the product from its current location to a holding / staging position and then move it again to its final position. As opposed to moving it to its final position in the first place, when the guns are not actually physically moved..... Show me a ship with multi weapons on the same turret and you'll have skooled me.

I'm sure it's just the easiest way to do it programmatically within the confines of the code they were working with at the time. Would you rather we couldn't group the guns instead? |
