So, instead of asking what I should do with my first alt IGÇÖd rather ask the community for examples of what you did with your first, second, third (etc.) character. To kick things off here are mine:
1.Initially a level 4 mission runner, then explorer, now frigate PvP (donGÇÖt flame - was still deciding what to do) 2.So far still on trial but will be a new dedicated PvP alt (Frigates! Eventually will train for HACs) 3.No clue yet but maybe miningGǪ
My first character will most likely go back to earning some ISK to help fund the pvp lifestyle and possible take a peek into incursions, L5GÇÖs, general PvE further down the track...

I normally create alts that compliment or support my main, without needing them to both be online at the same time (assuming the same account).
For example, I ran a POS between two alts that researched BPOs and maintained the POS. Both just had to manage 10-11 jobs each. Very passive, so long as you're not being attacked. I personally like to see some sort of ISK profit from alts.
Good luck with your alts though, there are a million ways to configure it to suit your needs!

I find the game to be much more fun and challenging without any alts. Not saying that I don't have all 3 character slots filled, I just have only one account and rarely log in with anyone other than Omnathious. |

This is my first character and my main. He is almost entirely combat oriented, with some mining skills from early on... He is only just starting to train for battleships, but can fly most non-logi / non-ewar sub-battleship's in the game.
My first alt was a hauling character, that I used to bring goodies into lowsec when Tuscor's sec status dropped. Over time that alt developed into a blockade runner/freighter/PI/gas miner that I now use for logistics in and around our wormhole.
My second alt was initially intended to be a scanning specialist and exploration character. I have now trained her to fly a perfect falcon and am now moving her towards a Black Ops battleship. This is the character I use the least as it turns out I don't really like falcons and Tuscor can fly everything else that this alt can fly.
I recently sold my third alt. I trained her specifically to pilot a Carrier (Archon) but again, realized I don't really like capital gameplay. Sold her for a cool 10 billion which plexed my other accounts for a while. |

My first alt was my Market Trader / Highsec Hauler, since my Alliance tends to be almost continually under a couple of wardecs for reasons I can't possibly fathom .
Since then, I've created:
Scout/cyno/bomber alt, that I'm rapidly skilling in to a second pvp character so I can be two places at once Supercap pilot Scout/cyno alt (to replace the guy above now he is not always in a useful spot)
I find the trick is not to churn out alts because you can for things your main can easily do (especially now there is no cost to having sp-heavy clones), but for things your main character physically cannot do (such as the highsec hauler alt who can travel "safely" in space I cannot), or for things that require dedicated characters (cynos for moving your main about, Supercap/Titan pilots who are trapped in their flying coffins). |

I had/have a bunch of exploration & trade alts. It turns out that having small, fast ships to move around in means one alt can handle more regions in the time I'm willing to spend :)

I've posted many time about my shadow, my first alt. Feel free to search for my posts with "my shadow" for better posts. I started the account about two months after I started playing EVE.
A non-comprehensive list, in no particular order: * Fleet boosting (especially Orca and Rorqual). * Mining (sometimes there is already a fleet booster). * Reprocessing (related to mining). * Salvaging. * Exploration (related to salvaging). * Hauling (especially Caldari, and includes: Industrials, Transports, Freighters, Jump Freighters). * Research and manufacturing. * Planetary Interaction (PI). * Logistics. * Command ships (especially Eos drone boat). * Drone boats (especially Rattlesnake = Caldari + Gallente). * Carriers (compliments drone boats & logistics). * Black Ops (compliments drone boats). * Starbase defense. * Trade.
When more that one racial ship applies, my shadow can often pilot them all.
All characters: research & manufacturing, PI, starbase defense.
Second: research & manufacturing alt (CEO).
Third: "mining only" alt that became HIC pilot, additional DPS, and recently wing commander. Probably my best-overall skilled character, even better than me (more focused).
Fourth: research & manufacturing alt + hauler. My most specialized character.
Fifth: research & manufacturing alt. Dual trained for 6 months.
Sixth: 900k cyno alt.
Seventh: neutral hauler (specializing in Transports).
Eighth: fleet booster a friend gave me. |
