i'd understand if you were talking about a minecraft server with a ton of crap being built at any given point in time but no, playing minecraft doesn't require obscene amounts of memory

Chisa May wrote:PS: I'll be getting another stick of 4GB ram when pay-day comes. This is *obviously* not intended to run the latest titles at decent fps, but that's not what I'm interested in. I've looked at those dual core processors before, and you shouldn't underestimate them. They might be cheap and out-dated tech, but they actually perform really decently. I'd take one over some AMD BS any day tbh lol...

if you have a tower case recycle it for the new system if fact recycle anything you can saves the cash a bit.
x99 chipset is way above your budget and is for power users.
Intel Pentium G3240 3.10GHz (Haswell) Socket LGA1150 $64

Corsair - Vengeance 2-Pack 4GB DDR3 DIMM Desktop Memory Kit $77
PNY - Optima 240GB Internal Serial ATA III Solid State Drive $90
this tidy lot comes to $341 you do need to increase your budget for operating system and graphics

Remiel Pollard wrote:You didn't rationalise what I asked you to, you just went ahead and further conflated "RAM is more important than CPU for gaming" with "if...you valued RAM so much". I never told you how much I valued RAM, I expressed it's importance in relation to the CPU for gaming. You're clearly incapable of inhabiting my shoes if that's the kind of leap of logic you're going to make. RAM is important up until the point that you have enough, especially if you're on a budget. Why pay more for something you aren't going to use and/or don't need in order to get the same performance for something cheaper? You were saying RAM and GFX is more important than a CPU. And yet you show a 3.4GHz CPU (awesome!) and relatively slow RAM (poor) and a nice GFX (awesome for what it costs). This just doesn't add up to me. Sure it's a dual core CPU, but for single-boxing this is perfect for EVE. For the OP... Not so much. Regarding pay more for something you aren't going to use, how are you not going to enjoy faster responses from your RAM? Faster CAS or MHz doesn't mean that you all of a sudden need less or got more GB, it just means it communicates faster when data is stored/needed. Usually this can even be achieved by putting more time in your search to components, without paying more. And if you have to pay more, it's usually only a few dollar.
Remiel Pollard wrote: And Hasikan made the other point I was going to make but before I did, I wanted to understand why you seem to be of the opinion that I need something I don't actually need. It almost seemed obvious to me that the statement "my machine already performs better than I need it to" would be indicative of it not needing any replacements/upgrades. If you wanna throw money around for stuff they don't need, that's your prerogative, but too many people like yourself have it in their head that everyone has to have the latest 'stuff' just for the sake of having the latest stuff. It's dumb. The same types think they have to update everything all the time as well without even checking what the update is. My latest graphics card driver update does nothing for anything I use it for, so I haven't even bothered doing that.
Hasikan pointed out that CAS only doesn't mean it's actually faster, but that you also need to take the clockspeed in the calculations. His post had nothing to do with 'buying things you don't actually need'.
Remiel Pollard wrote: Anyway, at the end of the day, my RAM works great, I even have a little more than I need cuz I never seem to use it all, for anything. It even has heat-sinks on it to help keep temp down. They're bright orange and reflect all the cool flashy lights inside the sports-car-like case I got.
I'm glad you like your RAM and that you think it's pretty.

well im glad your experience requires such a small footprint, however there are others who actually push minecraft and their experiences are requiring 5 - 8 gb of ram due to all the mods + texture packs they run .
so yes a simple game like minecraft tricked out can require 8gb of ram.
i know you just want to argue on this point but unfortunately it is really mute . because it is fact, that memory requirements are going up with every generation of game engines created. it will not be to much further into the future untill we will see the 8gb minimum requirement for games.

I love how these threads just turn into brain mush.
You want to spend 500 bucks? Go for it. You really don't need to spend a lot to get a machine that will run several EvE instances. I have an old work laptop with a core i5 and 6 gigs of RAM. No discrete graphics card or anything. Just a Lenovo thing that the boss tossed at me when I got cranky about stuff. Runs 3 at high quality just fine. It was maybe 500 bucks a couple of years ago.
My retina macbook pro with 16 gigs of RAM also has no problems with EvE. Before you jump to conclusions and decide that you need 16 gigs of ram, no. My ancient 2009 Macbook with 2 gigs of RAM also did just fine with EvE before I gave it to my little brother . . . who uses it for minecraft. >.>
The bottom line is that there is a way to play EvE that fits your budget. That's one of the great things about this game.
I wouldn't buy a machine just for playing EvE. I'd buy one based on all the other things it could do for me. Like how it could be used to make money for me. And then I would start thinking about how it would do with EvE. But the bottom line is that if it's useful as a machine today to do things that can help you improve your life or make money, it will probably do a pretty good job of running EvE.

Your point is interesting. Especially the part where you can't be bothered to use certain key words correctly. I always pay very close attention to people who type "mute" when they actually mean "moot."
But please, go on. I'm sure that all of your other points and their specific numeric accuracy are all just as well-thought out as your choice of words there.

Im not sure how much your budget can stretch but when I bought my current build I kept in mind further upgrades in the future... and its prob a good deal cheaper than when I bought it (2/3 years ago? I forget)... obviously take off things you don't need :)

My power source is modular, and quite a bit bigger than Is needed... but it means I can continually bolt things on to my rig without running out.
My case is huge (well I think it is)... I think it was -ú20 more than the case that was the right size for the hardware but this way when my budget allows I can add nice things like, SSD, a second graphics card (when needed, cheaper than buying a new one), more RAM, capture card etc... and or when things need an upgrade I know they will fit... and il be able to add more fans and/or liquid cooling if needed
No Worries
