To me, Eve is everything that a MMORPG should be, but Eve is the only game in the genre that really seems to get it. Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game is not just any game with character progression that you can play online. It's a living, breathing, virtual world in which our characters find their place. It's epic on a grand scale (a 40-person jog through a pre-scripted 'dungeon' is anything but), and the actions taken therein matter. |

You haven't experienced the joys of mining and Coronation Street at the same time!
....
Seriously, though, if you have not watched that show, avoid it. Avoid any English Soapie.
Ripper Street and the new Sherlock Holmes are examples of the production quality that they can do then they make East Enders? Huh? I think there are a lot of people that are watching shows like East Enders who are sitting in their brains, which have leaked out of their ears.

My reasons have shifted over the time I've been playing EVE. Was getting very tired of WoW and needed something more dynamic and unforgiving.
I first got started in high sec like everyone else and did the mission and mining thing. Got boring quickly but it was a fun beginning given that it was something vastly different than watching a bunch of alliance guys sitting inside of Stormwind and me unable to attack them because they weren't flagged.
When I first joined EVE, I met two guys that really stood out to me as good natured. They became genuine friends for me even outside of EVE. One plays and one no longer does. He got addicted to minecraft of all things. Still a very good friend though. So anyhow, the novelty of high sec wore off quickly and I went back to WoW for a bit while afk-training my first toon of a similar name.
After a while I came back and found my old two friends again and reconnected with them. We happened to join this alliance that was continually getting wardec'd. It was actually quite amusing to watch people die left and right when they could have saved themselves if they just used their heads. It was even more amusing how seriously all the members were taking it. You'd swear someone had just shot their dog. One day a corporation joined with only two members looking for others to go to a wormhole and live in it. As I made more and more money in high sec my greed grew and I decided to be adventurous and go with them. One was a complete idiot and one was an ok person for a bit. It worked out fairly well. They had previously come from null-sec (F-Con) and decided the novelty of living in W-space was getting old and wanted to go back. We had been living in a C3 and I enjoyed the solitude of the wormhole without having to worry about some stupid armchair commando's internet spaceship politics.
Ok, so we packed up and joined an alliance in Paragon Soul. It was a completely different world. The alliance I was with was very relaxed and chill. I was told this was a very rare thing for nullsec alliances but I just shrugged it off. I started raking in big bucks and enjoyed the idea of being able to buy shiny ships and blow them up without a care in the world. Hell I had times i made so much money I'd take 300 million isk a week and go waste it on cleaning out entire mining systems in high sec of its miners. The tears were wonderful and I laughed. Good times. Well the time came I finally got introduced to the rest of the HBC coalition.
Rules and regulations left and right! Holy ****, if these people would have made this much of an effort in real life they'd put Donald Trump to shame. I guess it's easier to work at McDonald's for 20 hours a week and live in Mom's basement all the while playing internet spaceship politician. I finally got a whiff of all the requirements and mandatory partcipation rules and immediately became disenchanted. How can ANYONE take a game so damn seriously?!?! I also found out that the ceo of my corporation was skimming money from the members and it pissed me off because I had helped build up the corporation to what it became. I said **** it and split off to form my own one man corporation. I stuck around because I had made some decent friends there but my disillusionment with internet spaceship politics was set.
I was and still am a free spirit. I have no political correctness, subtlety or care. After all it's a video game but I still couldn't help but notice all the people who took it seriously. I stuck by my friends and endured the political crap for a while. After Sort Dragon's stupidity and flack from this other moron named Triget from Tribe we got ousted from our space. Soon the coalition went **** up and everything went to hell in a handbag. Yup! Time to pack up! We bounced from region to region before I hit up my old friend from back in high sec. He had joined CFC and this little alliance called Circle of 2. There was some stability there and so I figured I could join, participate a little bit then disappear and go unnoticed while I farmed up money for a Nyx and a Titan. That didn't work. Well the nyx part did but the titan definitely didn't. Oh well bummer.
The alliance leadership loved to play games and mess with its members heads. They tried to awox one of my carriers but thanks to one of their mouthy leadership guys I warped out before they could. I immediately jammed all my stuff into the archon because i knew what was coming. Sure enough they ousted me for lack of participation in CTAs (nevermind the fact that Jabber was always ****** up and nobody would ever tell anybody when CTAs were occuring but whatever). Ok cool beans so back to my friends. I got the money for the Nyx, I bought the Nyx, still have the Nyx even though it's now 100% useless. I was going to sell it but I've decided to keep it since it is a notable moment in my EVE life. Not many solo pilots can farm up the money by themselves to buy a super carrier. Most corporations or alliances hand them out to trusted people. I doubt I'll ever use the thing again, though. Oh well.

So yay, I'm back with my friends from the former HBC in nullsec (I forget which region because they bounced to so damn many). Again, stringent requirements to the point the game became a second job, AGAIN! Everyone in coalition leadership taking every last little thing with the "OMG! They shot my dog!" mindset. Everyone's serious and looking at each other sideways. Didn't last long. I stuck with the alliance but decided to jump ship from nullsec and go to a wormhole for a while. I really did miss W-space. found me a cozy c2 (didnt need anything bigger since I was raiding other peoples' ****) and made myself right at home with my Blood tower. Got my assets up and in there, got my gank catalysts back in my favorite high sec mining stomping grounds. Yeah life was good. It got boring being alone though. So I moved some of my stuff back to nullsec. This time they had moved to NPC space.
Everyone was trying to form their own coalition but nobody had the time to really manage it. It fell apart. So it was back to TEST alliance this time as a super-corp. I got there and brought my who-gives-a-**** attitude with me. Well it got me into a fight with one of the TEST leadership(didn't know it at the time and even though I know it now I still don't care). Turned into a drunken brawl in local. Good times. Well since then I became very "popular" with the TEST leadership. I soon found out there was a conspiracy allowing awoxes against our corporation as long as I was there. I agreed to go ahead and pack up and leave. It was probably for the better. I went to my c3 wormhole, but this time I took some friends with me. That was a month ago. Today I play this game with a devil may care attitude. I play because I love creating chaos and suffering. Griefing people who take this game seriously is the greatest thing you can possibly engage in. Whether it's ganking miners, camping null-sec ratting systems, hotdropping carriers and making jews cry or AWOXing high sec corporations, creating chaos and discord is the only way to play this game. Woe to the ones who take it seriously.

I read both posts and appreciate how you crafted them. People will note that I edit mine a fair bit because I type them directly here and act as my own grammer and spell checker.
You are even honest enough to use the word "griefing" and talk about a catalyst alt. When ever I bring these things up, all denial springs forth. "We are doing it to cut the enemy's supply lines," Really? Three man corp of newbies mining in high sec is a supply line? "I use my main because it has more skills and I can raise sec status on it easier" Yes... kill rats while your destroyer alt soaks up the sec status.
So, I will say this. It seems that the more griefers and "chaos" generating players the alliance has the more stifling the rules seem to be. You will probably keep finding that. When you join a group to be with others like yourself, all the coalitions and alliances that yank on your leash a lot and use it against you are probably like that because it is the only way they can function and be so big.
Provi Bloc is a weird combination of hippy / communist / liberal I don't know what. You will see regulars that mine or rat and try get them to help throw some reds out "Respect how I want to play. I like PVE and I pay corp taxes" then when there is a PVE operation they are still going about doing their thing and if you say something like, "Well you don't fight but can you now contribute with PVE" you just get complete silence. That annoys me. I try to contribute but it is so vexing to see others doing nothing actively to help and throwing away shiny ships. Worst of all, I can't get a green light to shoot blues! So, I try and get some whips, chains and leashes! "We must respect the principles of Provi and not restrict people" ...
However, it works, in a strange way, it actually does. It has enough guidelines to not step on too many toes and it gives enough freedom to do pretty much nothing or to run head long into doing all that you can. When you accept it, you stop wasting time and energy flogging the dead weight. Who knows, maybe one day in a CTA they will contribute? Unexpected reserves of power you do not count upon.
There are a few large worm hole corps and alliances. Probably too rigid for you in a lot of cases though.

I honestly play EVE for things like this
ASMR
Or making Meta-Magical conceptual art like this
The EVE Online Effect
Or when I feel in the mood this
Paradigm Shift
Back in the day I enjoyed a LOT doing this
Why the forums are NOT the place to look ...
Also this from others
Plight of the Carebear
And a lot of other things.
To be honest, due to having been here for almost 10 years, I think that , believe it or not, I have grown to be a better person due to EVE. The Friends I have made and the things I have experienced here have forced me to reevaluate many many things.
Sometimes when I see posts of 3, 5 or 8 years ago I created I can see how much I have changed! (I think I was a very very different person back then) Some of them have been quite bad and others actually helped me meet awesome new people here.
I get a strange feeling when I see the people I have played with go away from the game and all the experiences I had with them only live now in my head. Time does that.
Also EVE and to an extent CCP have been an strange constant in my life, always there, in the background, ready to let me in to entertain myself a bit, in game and out of game by it-¦s sheer ENORMITY AND COMPLEXITY, regardless of the country I might have been.
I have moved between 4 countries, 7 homes , 1 marriage and 5 cars, plus a lot of international short trips during all this time and the only constant during all of the chaotic mess that has been my life lately has been EVE.
It-¦s always there. Cold, uncaring, ready to gobble me up in the huge TOWN it has become. You eventually end up knowing your neighbors, you know who to talk to, you know who you cannot talk to anymore (due to mistakes), you know where to go buy this or that or find who will do an specific job.
I know my way around town, except W-Space, which is for me a farm lot in the outskirts that piques my curiosity every once in a while. I know the Career Politicians, know who is in for a bad ride, know who lies the most (everyone lies) know where to buy my eggs and jam, know where to buy clothes and who can fix my car.
I end up knowing which neighborhoods I don-¦t ever ever want to be in (again) and which places show promise. I know very few faces stay the same and laugh when i recognize certain people that should not be playing anymore that come back in under a different "guise".
I am always busy though, this game sees to that. There is always a new fit to try, a new way of doing old things or of learning old things. There is always a market order to try update, there is always a new spot of the universe I try (mostly failing) to seed with items to create a market for a specific item (the trade thing is ... quite interesting here).
There is always something new, some people to meet. I enjoy randomly barging in public channels to see what people are talking about.
I think I have passed Sunk Cost Fallacy on eve already a couple years ago. It-¦s now like part of my own personal story on this strange trip we call life, or perhaps its a new meta level of the same ol-¦fallacy, don-¦t care at this stage.
But I remember, I remember many friends, now lost to time and to them, when a thread like this one pops up that makes me remember, to them all I can I do is salute them!
o7
I enjoy EVE, not for the game, but the people. That close edge on which they walk everyday, that edge that drives them to the same places I am driven, it-¦s amazing! Comforting even.
Yeah, total fanboi here, though I do enjoy screaming at the CCP devs every once in a while. Not CCP Punkturis tho
Love and hugs to you all! Pew Pew!
Also some extra for you all, since I enjoy sharing videos from my country sometimes

Usually a capital or super capital is first built by the pilot that will use it. Replacements (where they didn't solo welp them) there after might come out of an SRP fund. Naturally, if you have capital ships you want them flown by the people you know and trust to use them most effectively. Just common sense. What's funny is I didn't have a gank alt. It was this toon that did it. Took me a little over a month to get back from -10. LOL. I'm even contemplating doing it again later on just for the lulz.
And yeah, it is griefing. I say the word griefing proudly. Whether people like it or not, it's the heart of a sandbox game. Supply lines my ass. There is no supply lines like you said. It's a bunch of wise-cracking newbie players who haven't had their dose of EVE reality yet. It's always fun to pop them and listen to them scream as if though it's the end of the world. You'd expect one of them to go prancing around a station with a sign that says "The End is Nigh!" After a few months they realize 20 mil in a retriever isn't a big deal. I know because I used to think that way when I first started. It was one of the things that got me to afk-train and go back to WoW. Like any other noob I thought it was the need for skills. I'm hard-headed so it took a bit to sink in and one day I just said "Oh, now I get it!" and from that point forward making money was easy and new doors opened.
But yeah, the cyber-politicians, the insane mining corporations that hire mercenaries and the hyper-tensive n00bs are always good for laughs. Hell I took one of my alts the other day and awoxed this corporation called 101 n00b miners. Popped their Orca. Joined another corporation even before that and killed their POS. took about a bil in assets and really didn't have to do anything. Even made a video of it. Good times.
Funny enough, sometimes going into a null ratting system populated by loudmouths is enough for me. You don't even have to kill anyone. You know there's a CEO or alliance leadership someone screaming for them to shut the **** up but nobody listens and everyone just keeps yacking on for hours on end in local. All their jewing at a stand still. The fun part is, you're doing that on just one toon and doing something very boring on another one. Easy way to entertain yourself when you're hitting those belts to build those catalysts(Got a BPO somewhere). It's even better when they know who you are and bear you ill will. That makes it even better.
