I've recently done enough of scanning the high sec of space to finally afford my Raven (if needed) to do Level 3/4 missions.
But i've hit a wall at the moment! It's the ship/fittings.
Just asking for advice on a tanking fit for a Raven as i want to play it safe and not loose it by going all out DPS with missiles.
I Also heard that a Vexor could be used for level 3 missions but i don't know much baout ships and its only 10 mil compared to the 180 mil for a raven and i know the raven is better but whilst looking on line i couldnt see a fot for a raven for level 3 so can i do level 3 missions in a Raven or can i just skip doing level 3's and go onto level 4's in a raven?
SOrry bit of a rant there, just kinda want to get this right as I felt i was getting a bit bored of Eve by going round scanning, I've done missions before and got a little bored, feels like there isn't much else to do in high sec to make isk except going into null/WH space which i don't want to do yet!
Any advice would be great!
Many Thanks John |

Here's your generic L4 setup. Don't use it on L3s as most of the enemies are not large enough for cruises to apply the damage well. Get a drake or another battlecruiser for those.
[Raven, L4 Basic] Ballistic Control System II Ballistic Control System II Ballistic Control System II Ballistic Control System II Damage Control II
Thermic Dissipation Field II Thermic Dissipation Field II Kinetic Deflection Field II Large Shield Booster II Shield Boost Amplifier II 100MN Afterburner II Cap Recharger II
'Arbalest' Cruise Launcher I, Mjolnir Cruise Missile 'Arbalest' Cruise Launcher I, Mjolnir Cruise Missile 'Arbalest' Cruise Launcher I, Mjolnir Cruise Missile 'Arbalest' Cruise Launcher I, Mjolnir Cruise Missile 'Arbalest' Cruise Launcher I, Mjolnir Cruise Missile 'Arbalest' Cruise Launcher I, Mjolnir Cruise Missile Small Tractor Beam I
Large Warhead Rigor Catalyst I Large Warhead Rigor Catalyst I Large Warhead Flare Catalyst I
Hobgoblin II x5 Hobgoblin II x5 Hornet EC-300 x5
The hardeners are mission specific so get a set of 2 of each. Tankwise you should have more than enough to start running the missions carefully. Just keep eve-survival open and don't aggro too much at once.
Some people like the cap booster more than the cap recharger so use your own judgement for that. I've found restocking the booster charges tedious so the recharger works well for me. You can also swap the afterburner for a target painter for better damage aplication but AB lets you speed tank to some degree and it's a great timesaver with missions that have a lot of slowboating around. Another option for the AB is a microjumpdrive, which is basically a free getaway if you mess up as the rats don't disable it even when using a warp disruptor.

How good are you missile skills ? If they aren't perfect, you are going have hard time hitting small stuff. And some missions in lvl4 are 95% full of cruisers and frigs.

u will need at least 5 standing with the corp you want to run level 4s for.
Having 5+ faction standing will work also.
I would not recommend a raven in level 3s, you can complete it far faster in a cruiser/battlecruiser |

Which one makes the most isk per hour between level 3 or level 4 missions? And if I was using the raven for level 4 missions how much would that fit first posted be and what's the isk like per mission? |

level 4 definitely makes the most money if you are completely them efficiently.
Standard raven fit would be around 210m
If you are running level 4s efficiently you can expect around 30-40mil an hour as a newer pilot. |

Note that with the nerf on mission loot you are better off "semi-blitzing" and ignoring all loot except random things your MTU drags in while shooting (filter and leave behind everythng worth less than 200K or so) and the occasional wrecks/structure known to drop big stuff. The 10 minutes you otherwise spend collecting 2 mill worth of loot could easily be spent doing another mission.
As a side effect of this loot nerf the ISK you make from LP has become even more important. Choose corps with good ISK/LP ratio. |

That's great information right there with isk/lp thing!!!
Just a few questions with this, the tractor units is there any that aren't single use as they're about 4 mil each and I feel it'll almost be a waste to just drop one then not able to pick it up aftwards... Or would it, would the loot from the tractor unit rely make its money back from the wreck it picks up?
And what's the best way to find the best isk/lp? Got roughly 2500 with the caldria state and so seeing if that's a good amount do I g level 2 security missions? Never heard of this before you see! |

The mobile tractor units can already be scooped back up, just right click and scoop to cargo hold. |

Basically there are 3 ways to do missions: 1. Be too hard to hit (from being far away or being really small/fast) 2. Fit a massive tank and ignore all damage 3. Do so much DPS you don't take much damage.
The raven is very capable at #1 with a Micro Jump drive, AB, and Sensor boosters, you can make it where you practically never get hit. That being said unless you count missile volleys this will lead to wasted DPS as the rat dies with several flights of cruise missiles on the way. It works and is pretty easy though. You just get range with your jump drive and use the AB to maintain range and to burn between gates (which are rarely 100km from you)
The Raven has a very tough time with #2. You have to get pretty expensive modules to be able to make a permatank raven that can do good DPS and apply that damage well. It is easily capable of a great burst tank if you get in trouble with just an XLASB or a XLSB and a large cap booster, but that is time limited. If you manage your triggers, it is very possible to just tank stuff with 3 slot tank when you need to, though a 4 slot tank is much safer.
#3 is something that works really only with the Rapid Heavy missile fits in l3 missions, the raven can simply crush all of the enemies so quickly that it is silly in l3s. It doesn't do so badly in l4s with Rapid Heavies, but it would need a pretty beefy tank as you hit your reload cycles dealing with the Battleship rats. I have seen ravens/navy scorps/navy Ravens with serious bling doing missions, and have yet to see them be faster than a t2 fit paladin, so I would say save your isk rather than trying to make the raven a super DPS machine.
You mentioned the Vexor, if you have gallente skills and drone skills the Dominix is a much better l4/l3 ship than the raven IMO.

Calculator to compare LP/ISK ratio for different corps: https://www.fuzzwork.co.uk/lpstore/
Missiles plus Drones of course generally leads to thinking about the Rattlesnake but be aware its not an easy ship to fit properly or to fly. For the first 6 months I owned a Rattler it made less ISk/hour than my Domi and was much more at risk of exploding. |

that depends on the skills of the pilot, the sec status of the agent's system, which lp store it is, and what ship you use.
with lower skills I would expect lv 3s to earn more. hopefully you can get missions in a 0.5 system for both with a good lp store.
looks like a RHML holds 25 rounds (24 with arbys), so I wouldn't be surprised that most missions can be completed without needing a reload. even with reloads the raven can put out some very nice dps of any damage type with RLMLs. it can be a pretty decent lv3 runner.
I'll join the chorus asking CCP, don't take my fancy names away from me!

In my case it's totaly not true. Rattlesnake does way more damage then a Domi with low skills, it's way easier to tank in a Rattlesnake. But with low skills Gila is even better then Domi or a Rattlesnake.
Gila with speed tank and T2 med drones is an awsome ship. |

the fit linked at the start of the thread should be fine for level 4s, your damage will be somewhat low with your current missile skills but it's still very doable. |
