They might be Circadian Seekers, they are around now since Rhea. They scan stuff, but did not shoot anything yet. This is Lore stuff, quite interesting i might say.

I didn't stick around to check what they were, just saw red crosses and quickly screenshot and warped out, was in a completely unfit Rookie ship at the time. |

They are circadian seekers. You have unidentified structure in the system and they are all cruiser sized.I have seen some other mission specific rats in high sec in caldari space, near the station, but they were around 100~150 km away from it.
Don't look any further for negative energy, you will find it by being lazy.

Just went back to that system, Rats are no longer on the station, and there is an Unidentified Structure Beacon in system. |

Warp around to asteroid belts or planetary customs offices or stay at the unidentified structure. In Fabin they warped around and usually ended couple of times in a hour near it. Sometimes tehy are seen on gates.

Rats have been occasionally visiting stations for years.
It does happen rarely though. |

Would have been a shame to have lost that rookie ship. |

As others have said - Circadian Seekers...
Normal system belt rats do spawn on stations fairly frequently - whether it's a bug in the spawn mechanic or in their "intelligence" I don't know but when they do they will burn away from the station at sublight speeds; often resulting in a distorted grid. If you have the time it is worth chasing them down and popping them - it seems that while the spawn is off the station other rat spawns in the system are a little buggy. |

Some players do have other things to do in life besides play this game.
If it wasn't for this thread, I wouldn't even know about these Seeker NPC's.

well it might be a bug but dont rats just spawn in random places anywhere in system? because ive tried to chase down belt rats before it seemed they warped to another belt but when i landed they were not there. |

Circadian Seekers don't attack, ever. They won't even defend themselves. They're basically just like the Huragok (Engineers) in Halo (only we've never seen them actually fix anything).
You had nothing to fear from them.

i have a video of sleepers being sleepers, its low quality sorry, but its the best i can do atm but its better than the other one.... the other one is shaky and is pure ****...i added some classical music so you guys would not have to listen to unrelated background noise: hope this helps with sleeper studies in the future: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A09XIhfrY6o ... enjoy :D |
