Someday I will read lolita, I have heard that it is excellent.

IMO pure German speaking corps and/or pure French speaking corps have too many uneducated and/or lazy members, because in germany and france you get english taught in school. EVE in my eyes is a game based on the english language and most of it's players speak english. So why join a german (or most other european lagnuages) speaking corp? Can't speak proper english because you lack in education? Too lazy to speak english? (tho I don't think thats a common reason, because at least for me speaking english is fun) In my eyes thats the reason for most of the people to join such corps or alliances, although I believe that there are some who just want to be with players of their nationality.
However, that could be the problem with the Russian corps. The average age of EVE players lies probably over 20, which would be before the USSR fell apart, so perhaps the russians who play eve now simply didn't learn english in school, or the ones who might learn it now are too young to have a english that matches the (high) standards of the game.
I'm german myself btw, and german is my native language. _____________________________________________________

Were you raised in Germany?
It's much different learning English through school compared to through daily interaction and immersion.
For example, you could say Polish is my native language. It's the first one I ever learned, thanks to my parents. Im not nearly as good at the Polish language as I am at English, but thats because I was raised in English speaking countries. (I am however considered fluent in Polish)

Yep.. His name is V.V.Nabokov - genius of two literatures (russian and english)
Vagina (in latin) also means sheath, scabbard gladium in vagina (tegere ensem vagina) = to sheathe a sword

Not everyone is a language freak. For me English is just a tool to communicate on the internet and to be able to read interesting books and papers that never gets translated into my native language or too late.
My main interests in school were physics and math. And that's what I chose as my main subjects. Besides that I didn't enjoy much in school except sports and meeting friends. Hehe. Since we had to chose another subject with a written final exam in the end, I chose English. I hated German, I didn't like french at all, but writing in English worked ok and I chose it, because I could get a good grade without learning too much and without needing to provide some decent content in my text interpretations etc.
Now I'm already over 15 years out of school and haven't spoken English much, so it's a lot easier for me to communicate in a German corp and more relaxing especially on Teamspeak.
Ok, if I could, I'd make English world language, the language that every kid has to learn first. Then the coming generations wouldn't have to care about foreign languages anymore.

No, maybe not, I think SOME of them also haven't dropped that "We again against the west" cold war or super power thinking. It seems a bit if they need to prove something. That's at least what I read sometimes out of the smack-talk from some RA-guys. It's probably motivating, if you see an attack on your bunch of people as an attack on the motherland russia. /irony off
But it's not 'all russians'. I wrote 'SOME' and 'seems'. Guess most are more relaxed. Don't want to offend anyone. Hehe. edit: And not to forget, some other guys smack against RA on the same level, so it's no surprise.

Yep, "Lolita" is a good book. But don't expect to find there any "sick ****o scenes" or any "dirty" things from dime novels... The subject not the main thing in the book.. main thing is a "beauty of the word"...
Quote: So the fact that they have lesser skill in english makes them group together? Can it be just the langauge?
I'm quite sure - it's the main reason... Often "The National solidarity" is a good thing for speculations... patriotism and so on.. Often there are exploitation and cheating under such "bright words".

You forget that not everyone in EVE is in their early twenties. Being a French citizen myself, I can tell you that the problem with English at school is not necessarily with the students but with the government and/or the teachers themselves. Not only do they not push you enough to learn English these days, but the people that came before us definitely did not get pushed enough. Currently and by my own observation, there is a HUGE number of French people who barely speak any English at all and who are anywhere beyond 20-25 years old. One can blame several factors here, and that's: - Poor foreign language classes - That typically French idea that you don't need to know any languages besides French (this is changing, however, with the evolution of the job market and the rise of the EU) - Ineptitude at languages (some people just are inept like that at languages, just like math is and always will be miles over my and many other people's heads)
Yes, you do learn English in French schools, and it has been so for a long time; does the school system push you to learn English, however? It certainly doesn't. I certainly wish France would look up to, say, Scandinavia. Anyway, things are improving currently, and English is being taught much earlier now (like when you're 5 or 6 and are just starting school), but we'll see how that worked when our young ones have grown up.
And yes, lots of people just want to be with people of their own culture/nationality, does it not make sense? --- High quality pics of ALL EVE ships!

Well, usually not novels. But if someone studies a science subject, there is no way to get around English. Was probably different some time ago in the USSR, because they had a huge resource of excellent scientists and mathematicians themselves. ( They funny thing is that a bunch of math knowledge was 'stolen' from 'eastern' mathematicians, translated to English and sold as something new. Really shameless. I really respect the eastern countries for their math education. If I had been going to school there, I think I would have never failed a math exam at uni.

My primary foreign language in school was Francais but i do not remember anything from it :)
My primary foreign language in Institute was English and i'm fine with it. My secondary foreign language in Insitute was Francais again and once again i failed to learn it :)
Some RA members not very strong in English though. I barely can call them lazy or smth like that. If your foreign language in school was Deutch of French you obviously have weak knowledge of English. If you don't use foreign language daily (like me due to my job) most likely you'll forget your lessons.

Im always impressed by people who do not have english as their native language and manage to play EvE very well.
The state of the UK when it comes to speaking other languages is nothing sort of shameful.
I can get by with French and Italian , and I know 3 phrases of Russian (Minsk trip 4tw) but cant read it at all, and I am probably in the minority of UK citizens who can understand other languages - hell most people cant even understand half the regional accents in the UK
