Currently if you assign a shortcut key to either keep at range or orbit you must first press and hold on your intended target using the mouse cursor before that "shortcut "key will work.
Forgive me but I was under the impression that the intention of short cut keys was to allow players to forgo the use of the mouse and save on time and clicks?
I would really like to see this ironed out, my proposal is simple, if you have either keep at range and or orbit hot keyed and you press said hot keys then they will activate based on what ever target you have locked, or if nothing is locked and you have something selected in your selected item box.
If your currently locked target differs from your selected items box then the currently locked target will take priority. |

What if I want to continue to orbit my anchor? Does that mean I need to keep him locked? Seems like an unnecessary change.
This is my signature. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

Good point and in that situation your orbit command would be unaffected unless you gave another command to orbit something else, seems contradictory to what i may have posted but probably my fault for not explaining it properly |

Currently it's as granular as it can get as I might to want to have X selected, Y targeted and orbit Z.
What I use for things which are safe to tackle with an orbit: Mouse over the target, ctrl+click, W-click, press whatever F-keys are needed. This all takes less than a server tick due to not having to move my mouse. If I were to do it manually, it'd be click target, move to lock, click, move to orbit, click, move to module(s), click and move more. I cannot be as precise with the mouse than I can with the keys.
Maybe there could be a better way of doing the shortcuts, but in my head they're quite logical and provide the fastest possible result. |
