Before i begin let me just say that i'm aware of the inefficiency of doing missions cooperatively, but i and my partner do this in brief occasions when we are both online and it's not about making money but rather exploring what happens when different sized ships are used than the ones recommended or suggested.
We have done some L4's as a battleship and frigate party, with ideas that the frig can draw aggro and disengage quickly, and also fly to and from stations to accept and complete missions, getting the battleship to the next mission faster. I'm aware here of the weakness/overkill of using an omni tank over damage specific, but given im not grinding these missions i usually do not bother looking up the mission nor docking to refit in light of that info.
The lack of NPC frigs in most l4's and low dps of a player frig supporting is clear, so our plan was to try out a worm and some tech 2 frigs also. My partner is a fan of frigs and just getting access to T2s. He rates his enjoyment out of the fun had flying, rather than the raw dps, and i can provide that for him.
I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions or experience messing around in this way. Other ideas were for my partner to try out a bomber on a BS heavy L4 mission, which he can fly or the new Confessor which shows amazing versatility from a tiny signature. Or more cost effectively, a MWD Caracal, or a tanked Drake. Or potentially to a Gila which would offer the highest DPS. I could also switch to a Tengu or a HAC, losing some DPS but gaining better application.
Thankyou for helping, |

Small ships need to be fast. The Confessor is actually pretty powerful when it is pimped out. With the right skills and fittings it can get over 500 dps and still have a decent tank. Keep it moving, kill off webbing frigates and towers, don't do missions with neuts, and it should be able to do most L4s. |

Making the second ship a logi or a bomber is pretty common.
Its also possible (but tricky) to run most 4's in two Assault Frigates. The total combined DPS of two gank fitted Wolf for example will be up around 600 or so. You would need to be very tactical and realise certain missions may just be impossible. |

I did this for a while. The Huginn is awesome thanks to webs and TP, which enhance the DPS of any battleship. It has decent speed in warp so the huginn pilot can still do the "return to agent, collect next mission," dance around their battleship-encumbered partner.
My Huginn-flying days came to an end when I got a bit overconfident, stopped paying attention, bounced off an asteroid and reached zero traversal for a few seconds. POP!

I think frig would be useless, but if you can join in a Gila with snakes and deadspace afterburner (900 m/s speed) you can have fun and add around 600-850 dps depending on you skills. So basicaly you can kill small / med stuff quickly and your friend in a BS can take care of big stuff. |

If you are playing Eve just for fun and not to learn how to use Excel or a stop watch, then frigates in a level 4 can be a lot of fun. I run them with an alt occasionally just for laughs. I will usually run a Worm and a Manticore. The Worm, with drones, is just under 300 DPS and eats NPC frigates like popcorn. The Manticore is over 500 DPS that chews through battleships with easy.
The biggest thing to remember is this is a very hands on setup. It is not a Rattlesnake/Domi where you just drop your drones, go make a sandwich and come back to jump through the next gate. It is a lot of clicking (have not tried it yet using the keyboard controls to fly) and takes very good target management. Spawning to many ways and you will be over run quickly.
While I know this setup is not as effective as my Golem, it is surprisingly fast in clearing waves. The main trick is to let your worm tank and keep its at max speed the entire time. Let your drones do most of the work. I keep a cloak on my SB so just before a new wave swans, I will cloak up, so he does not get aggro. If it does, it is dead if you don't warp out fast enough.
Make sure to take out the webbing/scrambling frigates first and until you get comfortable running them, don't be afraid to warp out. And if you kill to many triggers, have something tankier handy to swap out with to clear that room or finish the mission.
It sounds like you guys are about to have a lot of fun. Good luck and look me up if you have any questions. |

A guy from my corp flew a Confessor with me in an L4 mission and it did quite well, and his skills are very low (3m sp). He was able to take down a typical battleships rat by himself, albeit slowly. I am pretty certain a better skilled player could solo L4's fairly well. |

I tried running lvl 4 Angel Extravaganza and Worlds Collide in a T2 fit passive-tanked Gila. Worked fine. You could ditch the battleship and get both of you into Gilas and probably clear missions pretty quick. |

To update, we have had some good fun with Ratlesnake / Worm combo, i'm trying to encourage my partner toward RS/Gila and then Gila/Gila but for now were focusing on Worm until drone skills improve. Fitted a remote sebo on the Worm that's proved useful, bonusing better than a sebo and letting me use drone tracking link instead so im boosting my gecko.
The next things we plan to test are if the ship bonuses still apply when assigning drones, either with the Worms lights or the RS Gecko or heavies. I could see some useful combinations particularly when the Gila is involved.
Thanks everyone for the advice. |

Bomber / AF duo.
AF needs to jump on the frigs / webbing drones asap. Bomber finishes beefier targets on grid. Both ships sig tank. |
