Hey guys, just back to EVE after a several year departure. I'm trying to re-establish my old high sec ice mining operation along with many other projects I formerly worked on. I've gone to DOTLAN and what not but the systems there (which are the same systems I mined ice at in high sec previously) no longer have ice belts. Is there any new accurate information on this? |

The ice belts are still there, in the same systems as before, they just appear as anomolies rather than the old static belts. |

I wouldn't bother with ice mining tbh, it gets mined out really fast and takes ages to respawn, you run out of ice to mine way too quickly now. Kinda sucks. Stop bots by punishing the players who actually play the game....go figure. |

Yeah just checked around 8 ice systems, all ice is gone and when you do find it there is already 7 orcas and about 50 skiffs in every ice anomily...mines out fast. Seems like this ice change I have read about was a really stupid idea. It has not stopped botters just stops normal players from doing any ice mining. |

Botters are unlikely to be in ice fields much longer.

With big mining corps the issue does not go away with just banning botters, they always come back and the big mining corps will still wipe an anomily out in very quick amount of time. Basically with the new anomilys there is not enough ice to go around for mining. Especially if you are a solo ice miner. That's what I am being told by others who have played longer than me and so far from what I have seen flying around ice systems they are correct. |

It may not even be botters sometimes, it could just be a large mining corp op or even one guy with 8 accounts... The lack of ice is by design.
Back when these changes happened, a developer blog/post/comment/something said they wanted to increase the viability of ice mining in low/null. There's plenty of belts out there that aren't being mined. |

I'm not sure if this is still true, but I think the ice anomalies respawn exactly every 4 hours. So once the last ice is gone, you can estimate the time they'll respawn and be one of the first to get there. |

From what i have seen soon as they spawn again mining fleets go in and its gone pretty fast.
Also ice mining or mining for new players is pointless anyway, you can't even mine to your full potential in a retriever or even a mackinaw without getting ganked or using a lower yield potential fit or gimping yourself with more tank and less yield...
They have made ganking in high sec far too easy with almost no cost or penalty and reduced a lot of new players high sec options from what I can tell.
Why would anyone bother getting into mining when you have to gimp yourself to not get ganked...seems kinda pointless and better to do something else completely. Just seems like really bad game design to me. |

There are so many reason to not get into Mining, this is not really one of them. Here are a few:
Its Boring a F. The isk is almost non existent. Everyone in Eve hates you.
Everything in eve is about isk vs Risk. You can fit a no tank Mack if you want. I did for 2 years and have never been ganked (Had a Hulk or 2 die).
If you stay in 0.7 System, Away from Code bases and put gankers on a watch list you are fine. Otherwise fit a DC2 and 2 mining upgrades and live with 9% less income (still follow the rules above).
Regarding ice.
Currently ice is several times move valuable than it was before the changes and you mine it twice as fast so you even if you only mine for 30 minutes you are still makeing for than several hours before the change.
There is also nothing stopping you from mining ore while you wait for the ice or any other activity that takes less than 4 hours. You might even find that doing pretty much anything else in Eve makes way more is and is more fun. |

Legitimate Ice mining is pretty much a thing of the past now. The anom spawns get hoovered up faster than ******* up Daniella Westbrooks hooter, you also run the risk of getting hot dropped by some code enforcers out for a gank which is ok as its part of the game, but risk v reward v killing brain cells from boredom ratio for ice mining if pretty fubared unless you can get into a null corp and which is blue donoughted up to the eyeballs so you can do so in the peace and tranquillity of sov |

Or, y'know ... You could get into a corp that stakes claim to the ice system, and pushes everyone else out.
Or lowsec.
One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia

Mining sucks, don't do it.
But if you insist on doing it:
-Use a Procurer or Retriever with max yield. Larger cargo holds, pretty cheap, not big gank targets. -There is ice, even in Caldari Space. It's question of timing re: the belt's 4 hour respawn timer -Mining Sucks, don't do it -You lose a considerable amount of your total yield when you warp to and from a station to dump off ice. -You should be in a fleet with a booster.
Mining is the worst form of income in the game unless you have 10+ accounts. If you don't have a hauler and a booster, you're losing out on so much yield that you could be making more realized ISK on a monthly basis running level 3 combat missions. Mining skills do nothing towards actually being able to defend yourself or shoot things, so they are just a "waste" of skillpoints when you inevitably get bored of mining with your one miner. People with few accounts can blitz missions for 100mil/hr or better, afk rat in null for 60mil/hr, or do a slew of other things more profitable than mining.
I would only recommend mining at all if you're running 15+ accounts. Max Yield retrievers with 100% rorq boosts can make upwards of 50mil/hour per miner on caldari ice belts in null (slightly less with other racial ice). It's pretty easy to scale it to about 20 miners, a hauler, booster and tank. Any more than that and you're doing some serious micromanagement with the removal of broadcasting. |
