So ive been working on selling high grade implants. Only way i can make iskies atm and pretty close to broke. Operating out of rens if it matters.
A few things ive noticed is when i put my orders up, i always get undercut in 20minutes, constantly. And its like clock work. Normally the order i just undercut changes price by 1k isk, lower than me. Every 20min it happens. Same price change. Kinda like a macro. Since im new to all this, is this the norm? I dont really mind it since i just keep adjusting until it sells. Just find it odd. Could just be ignorance on my part.
Any tips for newbie market guy? Like is rens even worth it? Or should i get neutral alt to run to Jita (amarr/caldari hate my main) to sell? |

There is no norm really :D seems one guy likes to go through his orders every 20 minutes. Atm I have a lot of orders and go through them only 3 times per day. Others have just a few orders open for some hours only, but update them every 5 minutes in that time.
There is alo no norm for which market is best, it depends on what you are comfortable with/ your strengths are. Can only recommend that you try different things maybe... there are also people making lots of money in very small regional markets. |

true. Low volume sales with high profit margins. Think Ferrari
Jita is high volume sales and lower profit margins, think supermarkets.
And there's usually always someone on who's monitoring their orders.
Maybe just find an item that isn't so popular it attracts alot of traders.

As bad as it is now, it can easily be worse with the market API changes. Between the 15 minute cache of your orders and the 5 minute cache of all market orders, it is trivially trivial to write a simple monitor to list in near-real-time orders that have been undercut. Traders will no longer even need to cycle through their orders in-game.

When smug traders talk about the billions/trillions they made from the market, rarely do they talk about the countless hours spent battling to be top or bottom of the pile. |

They rarely talk about that, because past a certain wealth it becomes less worthwhile spending countless hours at being at the top. I only know 2 very large traders who keep quick updating and one of them "recently" has switched to a less frantic activity.
If a trader got enough money to afford it, he may start swing trading. When it happens, "countless hours" becomes "3 times a day".

VV can correct me if I am wrong, but I believe it is a term for anticipating price cycles (e.g. meta 4 warp scramblers fall in price weekdays and rise on the weekend), purchasing very large quantities of them when they are at the bottom, and reselling when they are higher in price.
It's a capital intensive way of trading, especially if you are doing it on items with a longer cycle (like the various products of faction warfare - someone might invest 50b in Gall Mil items when the Gallente are hegemonic, then wait three months until the Gallente failscade and the Cal Mil do well for a while, then and only then start to sell).

Depending on what you are looking to sell, checking sell volume, and competitors on the market you want to establish on, is a good idea. That would give you a fair idea of how often you gonna have to update your orders if you want to sell asap :)
