Edited by: Liora Vahan on 19/09/2006 13:27:41 I, as many others do, set a skill to finish shortly after the end of DT tonight. The newsitem from the Dev Team about hotfixes was posted far too late to warn people to set longer skills. DT should have finished about an hour and a half ago, my skill would have finished a half hour after DT.
It is 11:30pm and I need to go to bed, real life calls. Surely CCP should be reimbursing people's lost SPs, since there was no forwarning. When dragon was released I started up a skill with 4 days left on it 'just in case', fortunately for me it was a good idea. Had I known that there was a chance for an extended DT tonight I would have set a longer skill. Now it looks like i'll have blown about 10 hours of training. I'm not happy.

I agree with you 100% on this issue. They SHOULD. Unfortunately, they WON'T. I choose that word very carefully. They will tell you they CAN'T, or that it is "technically difficult." But, I think everyone knows that's a load of BS. If they can't manage characters and such in that way, then Eve has very poor managment software indeed..... I know this answer isn't what you were looking for, I'm just trying to brace you for the answer you're going to get when you petition it. If you get an answer at all this month....... *

Whilst it is annoying to lose some training time, I suspect that if the amount of outages and server bombs increases, they're going to have to start reimbursing people's subscriptions, or at least a percentage of them! EVE used to be very stable and downtime was minimal a few years back, but that's started to no longer be the case. I realise of course that much of the problem is EVE's popularity becoming its own worst enemy, with server loads clearly now an issue, but the fact remains that the quality of the service we are paying for is showing signs of slipping. Whether it's training time or game time that the players are losing, it's certainly something that should be addressed. One can only hope that it is being looked at.

Ohno! An entirely scheduled DT made your skill not end while you were online!
Your fault since you set the skill to end at that time, and we all know that you cant rely on the server being up on time every day.
If you really have a scheduiling time, then train some other 12h+ skill and come back to whatever when you're actually around.
and for the record, this hour (or 2 if it goes crazy and continues) is $0.06 USD. Deal. Look under your couch cusions. --------------

Not hard to set a skill that trains well over downtime. You cannot blame CCP for poor management of your own character. They tell you well in advance that the server goes down everyday, and they do tell you that they sometimes take longer than usual due to unavoidable circomstances. -

Whine Whine Whine.... Eve is up and running more than any other mmo out there. Its a little buggy lately because of the recent code updates but thats not reason to have a hissy fit like a little 10 year old girl about lost skill points when ccp KNOW there are issues and they ARE working on them. Grow up!

I do, at the least, and though not directly because of that fact, I'm capable of responsibly setting longer skills before downtime. I only set short skills to train if I'm going to be online when they're done, IE I sign on, set a short skill, and stay online until it finishes. When I sign off, I often set a longer skill.
But if the server crashes and I lose some training time... well, I go and ***** on my corp forums, and then play Oblivion or read a book or something. It's really not that big of a deal to gain a few less SPs an hour. Don't expect any sympathy here.

I'd like to point out, as it was stated before, issue is not about loosing few SP. Issue is about inappropriate customer service. If you think it is ok - others think it is not. It's not about whining, it's about business relationship between CCP and subscribers. Subscribers thinks that service is inappropriate, CCP is confirming that, subscribers are upset and insisting on reimbursing (in this thread), on fixing it ASAP (in other threads), etc.
If you're think service is ok for you - fine, but thats for you personal. __________

Since when does lost skill points due to bad character management relate to customer service?

Exactly. CCP did mention it before downtime, therefore they did their job in informing the customers.... if you then go and deside not to set a skill that could cover an extended downtime then the problem rests with you. Why you would then come onto the forums to complain about CCP's customer service is pure idiocy!

Actually, Oveurs post about the possible extended DT was timestamped 11:20, that's 20 minutes into DT.
I haven't ever complained about the service before. I've over ever experienced lag once, and the game was still playable at that time. However the time I get to play each night is generally the two hours directly after DT. I'm annoyed that the Dev team would have known they'd be working on the server and that there would be a risk of this happening, and noone told us earlier. When you only play for an hour or two a day, there isn't much opportunity to get some of the mid level skills learnt, other than running it over DT. So i'm not particularly happy about it.
Mind you, simply seeing ccp come out and apologise for not giving forwarning would be enough.

the problem is they do work on the server EVERY DT.. normally it's a 5 minute job with no problems.. but then you end up with ones like today... where they applied a hotfix and it went wrong.. so they had to rollaback and fix any errors that occured at that time...
and this is probably why the warning was late...
11:00 server goes down... they start to apply fixes 11:20 they realise somethings gone horribly wrong... they put up a warning saying hotfixes going on today gone wrong plz bear with us.. 11:20-whenever the server actually came up.. they were working on fixing the server.. it came up major issues seen so it comes back down...
at the end of the day the dev team are trying to maintain a game that has over 100k users with upto 30k online at any 1 time... there will be problems that need fixing... I'm sure you've all had unexpected problems come up in your life and will do again, there is sod all you can do about it until it happens and when it does you do your best to work around it/fix it...

Your statement is wrong in its core. I SHOULD BE ABLE to set skill points whenever I want to except DT. I SHOULD BE ABLE to run missions wherever I like to, no matter is it 1.0 sec with 150 in local or 0.1 sec with 2 in local. Sadly, CCP cant provide it these days. And inapropriate customer service leads to bad char management, as well as to a bunch of other issues.
Me personally havent lost a single SP, cuz I'm training 8+ days skills, but I dont think if someone lost SP due to the one of CCP screws it's because of bad char management mostly.
Like after you bought a house and moving in, you've been told that it could be trashy.

Try not to misunderstand me, usually i'd be one of the people defending CCP. All they need to do is say 'sorry, didn't realise that would happen'. In the hitchhikers series, what was god's final message to his people? "Sorry for the inconvenience." That's all that's needed, instead of telling us this could happen late, they could have simply said sorry.
I played WoW. I know EvE is an awesome game, probably the best mmo around, but I am a service tech and I know the unexpected happens more often than something works, and all you need to do is say sorry.
