I have learned that everyone in this game is out to get you. I have decided to make no friends and instead kill everyone I see, besides my real life friends who are in this alliance I will be joining. (It is nullsec) Any suggestions on how to not die? Went on a "roam" with my friends yesterday. Brought my cynabal. Next thing I knew they were all shooting me. I nearly killed their confessor. I guess you can never know who is a friend.

You have learned one of the most valuable lessons Eve has to teach - trusting people who have not earned it is a bad idea in Eve and in real life.
For some actual useful information I will offer you the following:
- If a corporation lets you in without doing any kind of interview/background check - use caution. It's either a trap, or your stuff will be at risk when they let in the next awoxer.
- Fully vet any corporation you plan to join. They'll be doing it to you, you should be doing it to them. Check killboards, forum posts, reddit, do a google search on prominent members. If anything seems fishy, run, do not walk, in the other direction.
- Move in slowly. Do not bring all your expensive assets to the corporate HQ system for a few days at least. This gives you a chance to check out the corp from the inside and see what the culture's like.
This won't protect you 100% of the time -- nothing in this game is meant to be 100% safe. But if you do your due diligence, you can protect yourself from most of the bad things that happen in this game.

I'm not entirely certain how this thread is supposed to work.
If your starting definition say "Trust Nobody" and I give you an advice, you aren't supposed to trust me as per your definition.
But if I confirm your statement and say that you are correct and shouldn't really trust anyone the things start to be a bit messy.
Let's say you trust my confirmation that you shouldn't trust anyone. In this case you have trusted me despite your original statement, but at the same time you don't trust me because you found my advice ("trust nobody") true and thus not trusting me either. In the other case, where I say "trust nobody" and you decide to stick to your original statement and don't trust me to trust nobody, you are sticking with your original statement but at the same time don't trust me when I confirm it.
So, in conclusion, I will give you one advice:
"Trust nobody"
and you decide what you're going to do with this mess.

On one side it amuses me, but on the other I know that the offensive measures are secrets well kept to ones self ... and worth dozens of billions up to pricelessness.
I am just happily observing what people have to say about this. ^_^

Don't trust people with something you can't afford to lose just like ships should be the "rule" but there is a bigger value linked by people to trust because of the emotional investment so it "hurt" more to be betrayed than just losing a ship. |

Not necessarily. On some of my alts I join corps to help them out and get proficient at EVE and one of the first things I'll do is drop some "bait" so to speak, something worth 100-200 mil or so. I don't care about isk but I do care about my time so it's a pretty good test to see if they're worth my time and effort. If they do grab it I consider it cheap intel and simply leave or actually turn on them.

It's not always that you just can't trust anybody. Think of it as survival of the unit. The corp/gang/alliance isn't untrustworthy, pointless and full of people out to get each other.. they are just weeding out the ones hey don't like, eating the weak, strengthening their core. You simply didn't belong anymore. A harsh reality that many of us face if we don't pay attention. |

So far, from your own words, that doesn't earn you trust. It earns you the position of a person who likes to give.
Most oftenly such position doesn't make you trustworthy, but a target.
Guessing, I do assume you try to test who is trustworthy?
When you write "I drop some bait" you don't really explain what you are doing. Is it a can? Do you give it to them in station, via trade? etc etc.
If you care about people learning something from you with this, then you need to explain the situation, the context and your intention properly.

Not always, but in general, there are lots who will capitalize on opportunities that may present themselves.

Not blue shoot it - good idea in null sec!
I've also tried the don't-place-any-trust-in-people-I-don't-know-in-real-life approach and this explains why I've mostly been in 1-man corps. But sometimes it can be fun trusting random people. Sometimes it even pays off!
Sean Dunaway wrote:Any suggestions on how to not die? Went on a "roam" with my friends yesterday. Brought my cynabal. Next thing I knew they were all shooting me. I nearly killed their confessor. I guess you can never know who is a friend.
I like to minimise risks myself here. I am not bothered if I get blown up really, just as long as when I do explode I've only lost something I was planning to lose anyway. Always have a plan for what to do after you explode!
As for knowing who is a friend, I've heard EvE stories of people betraying RL friends. That happens too! What is worse, sometimes you might think that someone is the most reliable person you know, but even they could still turn on you, after a few years!
Well EvE does have lots of risks, but really, that just adds to the fun if you play the game right. I don't mean that newer players can't play it right, like an "expert". By playing it right, I mean, playing a game to have fun!
Whether this means taking out a bank loan, buying a big stack of plex, and sending it all to an isk doubler, or PvP'ing in cheap t1 frigs is up to you of course. |

An item in corp hangar station container, a ship in their POS, if they lack all that an item in a anchored can they know the password to. Or I'll lend them a ship, stuff like that. And yes, I'm doing it to test if they're worth my time. |
