This is the third and final time I have tried a trial account on Eve, every time with every patch, it is always the same. I can install and create a character no problem, but after selecting that character, it loads the start station, gets to 100% and freezes the whole computer. I have tried different characters at different times on different patches but it has never got past that point before.
I have tried turning off all sound and reducing various video options, is it just because of my video card or something else?
the Dxdiag file is kinda long but i will include the first bit, please let me know if you need another bit, i don't really have a clue what to look for

Card name: ATI MOBILITY IGP 9000
^ Not really a good enough card to run EVE, I'm guessing that's where your problems are. It can't render the station. -

Srry m8
Altho if i may be so bold, can i reccomend this machine to you,
http://www.pcnextday.co.uk/products/ProductDetail.asp?ProductCode=3382-6301
It costs ú550 but is as quick as most rival ú1000 machines, A further 512mb RAM costs about ú40 on top but is worth it for a total of 1 gig Altho not the fastest gaming lappy around it does suprisingly well for a "budget" machine thanks to its 256mb dedicated x1600 GPU and dual core CPU I have one of these and have no problems running EvE and can even run the newest pc games such as FEAR and COD2 at 1024x768 at max settings and 4xAA getting around 30fps, EvE runs at 1280x800 fullscreen, No AA at about 65-70 fps

Edited by: Grez on 20/09/2006 12:50:12 Try omegadrivers (www.omegadrivers.net). They have a mobility driver that uses the official ATI driver set. You might get more luck with those than you do with the default drivers (which must be a good 3-4 years old now).
Windows update will most probably have an updated driver for your mobility GPU as well, try that. -

Seems to be a RESOLUTION issue in your notes your current driver Claims that the monitor you have is only cable of 640 x 480 and youve set it much higher resulting in a Conflict in the software.. perhaps you should update the driver , far as i can see everything else is working fine on your video card. Monitor: Generic Television Monitor Max Res: 640,480 Driver Name: ati2dvag.dll Driver Version: 6.14.0010.6587 (English) DDI Version: 9 (or higher)

Thats his TV out mode, must be running dual view or have it set for it,
Display Memory: 128.0 MB Current Mode: 1024 x 768 (32 bit) (60Hz)
Thats his laptops current moni res / refresh rate, far too high for that IGP, maybe if he used 640x420 on his lappy moni the game might work, but I think hes allready tried..
"I have tried turning off all sound and reducing various video options, is it just because of my video card or something else? "

As i said, time for an upgrade, that machine is over 2 yrs old, and even when new it wasnt the best machine for gaming with

Thanks for the responses guys, I figured it might be due to the laptop graphics card. Indeed this is not exactly a gaming laptop, but it was free and runs (almost) every other game without any problems. Its a shame my lovely desktop is 6000km. I will have to wait until I return to play!
I'll try updating the drivers but I am not expecting miracles.
Cheers anyway
