Guys,
Do you have a set scrip you use when ransoming?
My first attempt went along the lines of: Me: Give me xxxisk or I blow you up him: Why? Me: Cos I want some money Him: What do you need it for? Me: Cos this is how I make my money. Him: Why do you do this. Me: cos i'm a nice guy, pay up in 30sec or die: Him: I dont understand why I should pay you. Me if you don't you'll die 10sec or death Him: but why? Me: Time up!!! +++ I closed convo +++
Is this pretty standard or too agressive?
Any pointer will help
Cheers

you gave him plenty of time, i didnt think it was too agressive at all, you could work on your opening line, i make them laugh so they fall on the floor and start rolling around.
Making there ship defensless.

I say you were too nice. I wouldn't even bother answering his questions, to me it seems like he was just stalling. Instead, all I would answer with would be the amount of time he has left.
You: Give me XXX ISK or you're gone. Him: But why? You: 30 seconds... |

yeah, i aggree..... i find simply answering with the remaining time causes a faster payout.
I allways try to be polite once ive been paid, and i allways say thankyou before i un scramble the pod..... unless their rude and then i pod them .... im not rude or abusive, i expect my prey to also be polite.

I don't often ransom peoples ships, I gamble and go for the pod ransom.
I open with something piraty like "avast ye scurvy landlubber, I wants your booty"
I then give them a price based on their age and price of ship setup (after checking their can, good mods = more chance of implants) and give them my demand. I have no idea if their pods value to them is more or less than my ransom so I just tell them "if your life isn't worth that, then fine, you go pop. If it is, then you have 30 secs to pay. It's a very risky way to do it and I generally don't negotiate.
Then I always end with a "yarr!" and then close the convo. ----------- Join channel 'Turby' or die! (bring pie) Mission running carebears drop good loot. Probe one out today! I <3 carebears on toast ^^ - Xorus I'll trade you some carebears for some sheep -Tirg +=♥ - Immy |

unlike him though I ransom ships - though i guess it depends what ship you fly. I normally use a Pilgrim or Arbitrator, which works for that, but something like an Interceptor might only really work on Pods - either way its generally more successful and they're less likely to try anything if they want to keep their ship. normally i'll disable their ship and open convo:
"20mil and i'll let you go"
if they're the only person in local i normally give them a bit, i even once tried to ransom a second time after they refused and tried to attack me - put him to half structure, killed off all his drones and tried again - but he just kept hopelessly firing missiles at me so i finished him off. ironically the ransoming was all a waste of time anyway, as i sold one of the modules he dropped for more than i was going to ransom him for
the people i hate ransoming most though are those that just dont get it - the ones that cant see a reason why you're shooting them or try to offer you weird things like services and such seemingly unaware that you'd have to let them free for them to do that which forces you to be blunt:
"sorry but that dosent work for me" or "not enough to save your ship im afraid" or if they try being smart/arrogant "well, your loss" ----------- <3 Turbulance |

my script
Please STOP SHOOTING and stop your ship. If you cooperate i GUARANTEE you will NOT DIE. If you carry on shooting or moving I WILL KILL YOU.
I will release you and not kill you if within 20 seconds you pay me .
If you do not pay me i will blow you up. PAY or DIE your choice be quick.
i keep this in a notepad document on desktop to cut and paste

We have a channel with a pre made motd in it for when we're out hunting (not that anyone bothers to use it of course) that has the important bits of info in it, like turn off all your mods, state that you'll be willing to pay a ransom and after prompt payment you'll released without harm, and that pulling any tricks will result in you being popped pretty sharpish (worded in a piraty way of course).
All people have to do is invite the person to this channel and it cuts down a lot of the chatter. You can just state your price and set your time limit.
You have to make sure they know who's in control of the situation though, don't let them stall you with the "i have to get isk from my alt's uncle's dog's best friend toby" routine. A short time limit makes them more co-operative in my experience, and replying with a countdown of 20, 15, 10 etc while they try and talk their way out of it soon makes them pull out the iskies. ----------- Join channel 'Turby' or die! my lines:
Greetings Pilot, donate (Half of estimated ship cost) To my account within the next 30 seconds or your ship will be destroyed.
Use proper grammar and big words and whatever you do DO NOT engage in the conversation they say
'Why' '25 Seconds'
'Ill never pay a Pirate!' '20 Seconds'
Always give them the full countdown IMO, and when they pay say something like
'Pleasure doing buisiness.' Short and sweet :)

I always say this:
"This is a ransom. Pay us (x amount) and you will go free. You have (x amount of time, depending on if there are other people in local)."
I don't respond to questions and if they get verbally abusive or yell for help in local, they go boom. ------------------------------- -If you're going through Hell... Keep going.- |

I don't turn off my scrambler when they pay up, I warp off. I ALWAYS finish up with the "Pleasure doing business with you!" line if they pay and the "Enjoy your afterlife." If they refuse to save their pod (Kinda like the eve-mail you get from the cloning lab )
But yeah, I leave first, and THEN they can go!

We used to have a channel with this as the MOTD..
'Cease all aggressive actions and stop your ship / pod.
You are now under control of Beer and Kebabs Gate Control Authority.
You have 10seconds to pay the sum of....'
Then invite the target to channel and type the fee and wait a little for him to read. If nothing then blow him and thank him for his custom.

If it's a reasonable counter-offer then most people probably won't have a problem with it. Some people are just extracting the urine though when they offer 3m to save their battleship saying it's all they have. They die out of principle, then they get their pod ransomed for the amount of insurance they'd have just received from their ship loss.

I'm usually very polite. A typical convo goes like this:
ME: Cease fire immediately. (They stop shooting) ME: Thank you, sir/miss. THEM: why u attak my?1 ME: I wanted to talk to you... I have a small proposition. THEM: What? ME: Transfer XXmil ISK into my account, or your ship will be destroyed. ME: You have 30 seconds.... THEM: *random smack, wishes for my horrible death/expressions of surprise and/or disgust* ME: 25 seconds.... THEM: okay *transfers money* ME: Thank you, sir. Fly safe.
That's only if it works.... you'd be amazed the amount of people that just whine at me about how evil I am, how it's not fair play, they're new players, yadda yadda.... Then I say something like "A pity...." And blow 'em up. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I don't think so. The only thing they need to know is the agreed upon ransom. Everything else is... well, self explanatory. I don't even know why we give them a time limit... as if a pirate ever said...
"15 million, but don't worry, we can chill for an hour or two till you pay me."
So, giving them a time limit is really redundant. How fast does it take to transfer money to someone? Not fast at all, and I would venture to geuss that most acts of piracy isn't a casual, laid-back and friendly encounter.

Or you can just NOT ransom and make him/her realize hes screwed, thus making the target open a convo with ye and not the other way around. That way you already have a guaranteed ransom. :P
But few people do that, even tho some carry uber stuff in their ships..I guess intelligence =/= iskies. :P

I prefer to end with the "you got 3 min till you're open game". Then chase them for 2 or 3 systems to freak them out "with no intent on actually killing them at end of 3 min"

Pay xxxmil isk or you loose your implants! #wait 20 seconds or less if there are hostiles in system.# 5 4 3 2 1 #splat# if there is no response, then he gets podded. if there is a response like okok, stop shooting or the like i play it by ear. but i have very little patience so its normally 30 seconds and pop. when i ransomed the chimp freighter, he had logged to save the freighter, but it was in a bubble, scrambled and going down fast. his corp mates were in system in pods and were saying they would pay the ransom but had to get it (500mil). i kept on firing and said they had untill the freighter went pop to pay. it turned out being about 2 mins and the funds appeard in my wallet. we stoped firing and the torps in flight took the freighter to about 5% structure. I was on ts saying "damn, it might go pop anyway... we might have to give the isk back" :(
since we had put all the support into pods we then covered the freighter pilot as he logged back in and got the freighter to a safespot. your word is worth more than anythign else in this game.....

I go with something along the lines of "X mil lets keep your ship." as the opening.
It seems to work well. I think it's because I dangle the part where they keep their ship right in front of them.

"Transfer XXXisk to live. You have 30seconds."
Age + Cost of ship = XXX
No BS speech, I tend to give my opening statement then remain silent. It puts me in a greater position of power to be silent after I have made my demand. More... intimidating. And actually, I tend to take a ship to around 25% hull if I can, can't always, but try to. If I do pop the ship, than XXX is of course Age, since clones cost.

Just a quick question.. =) It was said, Ransom=Character Age+Ship Value. What if the guys/girls you try to ransom dont actualy have the amount of ISK? I m not saying 'dont want to pay', but are just broke. Being broke is kinda the usual modus operandi for me. That said, those Players are more likly to try to put up a fight, i guess. Personaly, i would probably say, blow my ship up.. brings back some money into my pocket from the insurance.

If they say they are broke I pop their ship and ransom their pod for the insurance they just received. Doesn't always work though.

I don't think i've ever charged more than 10% of the ship cost for a ransom.. and yet.. i've never actually been paid.
I am undercutting you true piratical types? Should I raise my price so as to not upset the ransom market? For such a low price why does nobody pay? Do people not have confidence in a pirate who has CrAzY LoW PriCes?? What is this fungus on the inside of my pod?
I have other fun games I like to play though that don't involve isk.
