My robot slaves have awakened me from cryogenic suspended animation and I find myself rather disoriented. Took a shuttle ride from my lowsec lair to Rens and back, tried to fit out a frigate and felt like a complete dummy about fittings. Not even sure what skills are worth training, so I just set a long one... something related to capital logistics I think.
Anybody want to give old Joe some advice? What are people using for 3rd party apps these days, what are the good ships and tactics, and how is life in 0.0 versus wormhole space versus lowsec versus highsec? I'm up for war and piracy, once I get my space legs back. |

Third party apps are the same: EFT, EveMon, Eve Central, dotlan, same as 4 years ago.
High, low, and null sec are the same, wormhole space is 0.0 w/o local, so you have to be good at probing to find targets.
Ships have changed a little; standard T1 ships have been changed and mostly buffed, T2 and T3's are in the process. Capital ships have had a recent major nerf to cyno jump range. Both ships and tactics are too complex to explain here; you'll have to use your google fu. |

I can't remember what Eve Central or dotlan are. Thanks for reminding me of the names of EFT and EveMon.
Wormhole space existed when I was playing, but it was still pretty new. I understand that sovereignty has changed (probably a few times?) and I wondered what it's like in 0.0 now -- more smaller alliances or is it still just a few big blocs? Is the Hurricane still any good for PVP or have the tier 3 battlecruisers made it obsolete?
What are these red and green target-looking things I'm seeing all over the place? Something to do with exploration sites, or incursions, or factional warfare?
Also, who needs a good shooting in the face these days? Where are the targets soft and fat? |

Green and red are signatures you probe down using scanner probes (red) or anomalies you just warp to encounter hostle npc rats (green). Open your scanning window from the HUD and you'll see them there.
evemaps.dotlan.net is the main info-point for all things eve space, maps/navigation(corps/alliances/sov etc eve-central.com is the lookup site for what stuff sells for all over New Eden.
Sov has been unchanged basically during your abscence - some cosmetic changes has been made (you don't spam towers all over space any longer, you spam SBUs and TCUs instead). Now, with jump nerfs there are starting to be hopes for radical changes in who can hold sov and how much. More changes are acoming - or so CCP tells us.
And who needs a good shooting in the face? Much the same as last time - Goons/CFC (was Deklein coalition back then I think). CFC is ClusterF**k Coalition nowadays same core guys (sans Test), new name. |

Also, who needs a good shooting in the face these days? Where are the targets soft and fat? Wormholes have gotten real busy in the past 4 years. You have a hard time finding one not occupied.
There were some very recent and significant changes to cyno jumping that still have not settled out in null. 3 months ago there was only the big blocks that you speak of. Now I've heard they have had to let some of their less important systems go but it's still too early to know how this will shake out.
There was a T1 ship rebalancing a bit ago and while I don't PvP I've heard that the races are reasonably balanced now and the minmatar (winmatar) PvP dominance is a thing of the past. As far as PvE I can say there has definitely been a homogenization and all races have a ships that perform roughly equivalent in most situations and much of the specialization of the race's ships is gone. So basically fly what you like
I don't know where any soft fat targets are but if I did I most certainly would not be posting said location on the forums. |

Nowadays everyone, their grandmother and their pets including puppies and kittens fly Ishtars. So if you have that trained ... (Also, in before "Ishtars are OP, nerf them already")

Ishtars are most definitely not the OP.
They are overpowered though. |

I never learned Gallente tech for some reason. My alt can fly Caldari and I can fly the other two. Just never appealed to me. I liked minmatar ships but their space is *ugly* now... all those brown backgrounds. Was it always that way, and I just never noticed? I may need to move to some nicer looking lowsec. |

Gallente are in a really good spot right now with blasters and drones. If you've already got acceptable drone/hybrid/armor skills, you might find it worth your time to cross train for a couple of their ship hulls.
Minmatar space has been like that for years, IIRC. |
