The screen resolution you had selected for your old monitor in EVE is either not supported on your "new" monitor or you could have a wrong monitor driver installed....
Check display setings...
(for XP) right click desktop, goto properties, click settings tab and then click advanced than monitor tab.
Make sure Plug and Play monitor is selected ( you could have the name of your "old" monitor there)
Also click adapter tab and click "list all modes" to see what screen resolutions you can have with the currant driver.
For a quick fix to get back into eve rename your prefs.ini file to say prefs.bak in your eve cache directory, you will lose all of your settings in eve but it should at least get you back into eve! Then when your resolution promlem is fixed you can revert the prefs.bak back to prefs.ini.

if you had a CRT before, running at a higher refresh rate than 75hz, and changed it with a new tft, you might get a black screen. tfts dont have a allover refresh rate like CRTs, and only support 60/75hz for refreshing the image.
start eve, toggle to windowed mode when your screen is black (ALT-ENTER), press ESC, enter display settings, toggle to Fullscreen mode again (not applying yet! so that you can adjust the refreshrate again, which is not possible in windowed mode) and readjust your displays refresh rate to 75hz or 60hz.
Hit the Close button to let the changes take effect

Thanks for your help! I seemed to have fixed it now, something to do with mis-matched resolutions as was suggested! Thanks!
