So, just started playing again after a year or so, what/any crazy MD happenings have transpired the past while?
I'm just attempting to be lazy and not scroll through hundreds of threads to extract the good stuff.
Also, how did the T2 BPO buyout-to-destroy-them thing go? When did it fall out? Was it Lauren Hellfury, (spelling?)
Anyway, good to be back for a bit! Its been too long.
Also, I would like to ask for a 1Tril loan..... (Kidding)

I don't like Geckos. I'm sitting on a whole heap, but I'm constantly nervous that CCP are going to throw a whole load more into the game and crash the price.

Fine with me.
Last bit of fun I was personally involved with was Bad Bobby's T 4U. Aside from maybe some small stuff. I can't remember if that was the biggest scam ever or if the old eve bank default was more isk involved.

I'm not talking about notes or mechanics, rather intrigue/super scams/bank collapses and other hilarity. But alas I guess nothing too spectacular in recent times.

Sadly, MD is not what it once was. Both activity and interesting topics and issues have declined a great deal since you were last around. However, stuff does sometimes happen here still. Let me know when you departed and I'll try to fill you in on events. Are you sure you've only been gone a year as Lauren left eve a couple of years ago (although she came back very recently)?

I agree. I really loved the "meta" we used to have.
I think there's an inverse correlation between how easy it has become to make money and interesting MD content.
These days nobody cares about banks, IPOs, funds... all stuff that required once uncommon amounts of money and made people sweat to get credit and investors. These days, bar some "old names" who still start investments the old way, the fully collateralized investments are the way to go. There's no investors "courtship" any more, no need for decent plans or strategies, everything is just some PLEXes away. Actually, investors have to settle for some measly <= 2%.
Excessive easily available money removed the need to do one's best. When you remove this, all you are left is a bland, low traffic chit chat.

Guess i'm not bittervet enough , you guys sound like the first batch that left when MD was moved .
It's a game , sometimes interesting stuff happends sometimes not and as the years go by what was defined interesting in the early days slowly becomes the same old boring crap.I might have a 40 B default on the way in a few weeks though if that might brighten your day but you will have to wait a few weeks for it ... .
On a sidenote you see this pattern in every eve subforum for that same reason .

I'm thinking it's been about 13 or 14 months. My longest break ever. I had historically kept up since '05 when my cousin first played and got me into eve, but I've slacked.
I remember looking gleefully forward to reading the latest on the Ricdic eve bank drama, and loans with business plans laid out and crazy scams all Over. Am I correct in thinking since Bad Bobbys T4U that there hasn't been a scam approaching that scale or involvement? Seemed that broke the back and the amount of trust and collateral requirement etc was forever amped up? Imean sure there's been some small scams or defaults but I just don't recall anything awesomely bad since then.

Ricdic left about 5 years ago , bobby walked away with the isk 4 years ago ... i know it is normal to have a habbit of thinking the funtimes wasn't THAT long ago .I fondly remember the days my wife and me had seks daily .. i'm sure it was only a year ago when that changed .. i'm verry sure ...

I would look at the past as an indicator of why there is none of the courtship you speak of. Enough of the players that went through that process ended up defaulting. When is enough enough? It looks like enough is now. Even those that didn't intend to scam got to a point where they got so big and said F it. I think that was what happened with ricdic. Or they burn out which is what I remember happening with Benvie.
As for PLEX, it's more integrated into the game as it shows up in the market window, but you still had GTCs available. I feel that is a "good old days" type thought ( in regards to why investments were needed).
Does this mean that the MD forum has not degraded in its level of content? Of course not. Would I like to read about a big bank, IPO etc that scammed? Sure. But I say that as an observer because I would never put money into one of those old school style of investments.
What I miss are the debates on an item and its value. Recently RAWs MN topic or Akita Ts material post. I suppose you can throw in Geckos as well. Overall it feels as though these have dropped off. Oh the good ol' days! |
