Since the dawn of time CCP have heard suggestions and the cries of the people and simply discarded them. Bi-Annual balance changes are not sufficient CCP. All I can remember in the time ive been playing since 2005 is one or two ships being overpowered per balance change, then 6 months later theres 2 new ships that are overpowered rendering the previous inert.
Current balancing scheme:
Nerf one thing into uselessness, Buff one thing into being FOTM.
We need hotfixes and much more frequent balance changes.. like once or twice a month or even more.
Don't close my thread please. |

You do know changes are now on a monthly schedule, right? I'd say we're pretty much where you ask.
God knows you can't tweak ship stats much more often than that. Fits would be obsolete before a meta could develop. It would defeat the whole point of tweaking stats. |

There's always going to be balance problems, but I think as a whole, things are better now for most ships than they've ever been. Ishtars are easy to use and flexible, hence their widespread use across null, and I think because of this they'll always be popular.
I'm lucky that because I have a pvp toon that can fly every single subcap with virtually perfect skills and the ability to generate enough isk that I can fly whatever I'd like, that I can play with whatever I want. I don't always chose to fly t2, t3, pirate or faction ships. Sometimes I just want to fly an atron or rifter. There's a place now for almost all of these ships, and regions that they perform well or poorly in.
I don't know specifically what you're talking about when you say FOTM ship, so I'd like to know what you're referring to. I think the devs are doing what they can to make sure that everything is fun and rewarding to fly, but I'd like to hear what you have to say, so please tell us what you think the problem is. |

So you just want to speed up FOTM cycling? Because that is all your idea will accomplish.
EvE is hard. It's harder if you're stupid.

Part of the reason that the DEVs take so long to revisit a previous "rebalance" is that...
- they want to see all the (realistic) fits and tactics that players actually use with said ship(s) in a real live environment (not just hypothetical or imagined fits and tactics).
- perception is a huge issue. Just because players perceive there to be an issue... it does not always mean there IS an issue.
- they may not exactly know how to alter a previously "rebalanced" ship without "breaking" it (a simple stat tweak CAN mean the difference between "useless" and FOTM).
Beyond this... yeah... sometimes the DEVs do take a little too long to revisit ships they have worked on.
Change isn't bad, but it isn't always good. Sometimes, the oldest and most simple of things can be the most elegant and effective.

To be fair I'm sufficiently sick of the sight of ishtars and rails, that this actually appeals at this point. I doubt I'm the only one.
At least there will be some variation. |

but the reason ishtars and rails are so widely used right now is because they are popular not because they are all to unbalanced.
take the ishtar for a while it was op then it got nerfed a bit but for the short time it was broken a lot of people were using it training for it and most of all talking about it.
they aren't super strong ships just really popular

Yup. Stupid cheap, stupidly good *Damage application/versatility*, highly resilient, hard to catch, dps that you can't neut or damp or ECM out..... Sentry drones have been kinda out of balance for quite a while, even if it's the ships that can and can't use them that needs adjusting more than the drones themselves. Nrf Ishtar Pls. Hard.
*Edited concept, poorly worded.*
