Two years ago, I quit EVE.
I re-subbed for one month to respond to a few forum posts I had time to read whilst RL had slowed down temporarily for me. My rubbernecking nature gets the better of me sometimes, and there is nothing like watching a horrific car crash like EVE Online unfold, with every twisted piece of metal tumble all around in slow motion.
So, in two years - nothing has changed, in my most humblest of opinions.
I just dropped a 12,000 word document to CCP explaining what issues I have with EVE Online and CCP in specific and general terms, which I won't go into here - but did wish to say hello to the player-base and hope you are all doing well.
Sub ends on the 20th of February, so drop me a line here or on evemail and I'll hit you back.

Seriously, wasn't baiting ;)
It's nothing that hasn't been said before on the forums, on email, over the phone or in person. Truthfully I just spend a few hours typing and didn't wish to retype it.
Just thought I'd say hello whilst I still can.

Same here...I do know that I know OP, just checked his posting history and he used to be a semi-regular in OoPE 2 years ago.
Not sure why I remembered your name, AK, but I am just going to assume it was because you are a swell guy and fun to hang out with, so um...nice to see you back and, uh, please don't go.
I'd like to apologize for the poor quality of the post above and sincerely hope you didn't waste your time reading it.

o7 Hello sir,
Hopefully it wasn't my shitposting 'cause I can ease up a little if it'll convince you to stick around.
Well, no promises, but yeah I can try.
But aside from whatever inspires you to leave, do you mean there's nothing here worth staying for? No part of eve that gives you sufficient joy to keep playing? Maybe keep looking or better yet create it yourself. Can't change the tides but swimming in 'em can still be fun, especially when you're surrounded by people who look amazing in bikinis and board shorts.

I mean there are literally countless ways to enjoy yourself here, almost unlimited playstyles, open goals, and potential to basically do or achieve as much or as little as you desire. If you find no aspect of eve enjoyable at all, from any angle, then it sounds to me like it's just not the game for you(?), rather than there being an inherent problem with the game itself.
I mean I could go and join (insert random game here) and find myself just not enjoying or agreeing with it. I could even write an essay to it's developers telling them how I'd like them to change it so that it is the game for me. But that's kinda silly.
Instead when part of eve pisses me off or burns me out I go play something else that I love. Eventually always returning here though because, despite it's deficiencies (no game is perfect), it's still the best fun I've ever had online. But if it's not for you then...well...

Not sure why I remembered your name, AK, but I am just going to assume it was because you are a swell guy and fun to hang out with, so um...nice to see you back and, uh, please don't go. During 2007 I posted about 30 videos/tutorials on video editing. Really basic stuff, but some people know/knew me for that.
Due to the Internet and specifically YouTube, editing standards are significantly higher now. Yet video encoding quality has dropped.
YouTube is 4:2:0, shadowplay is the same and I understand the ATI equivilant is also 4:2:0. This means there is tonnes of great content, but the quality of the picture is utterly dreadful. What you look at on YouTube now is a compression of a compression of a compression.
Gaming is 4:4:4 and due to the above, we never see it anymore in videos. Even if you used Fraps in RGB mode on a 2160P image and uploaded the original file to YouTube, it will still get compressed into 4:2:0 nastiness at 8mbits/sec
Thankfully, H265 & VP9 will solve this offensive position and I can watch YouTube gaming videos without wishing to throw up. Of course, the other end of the spectrum would also need to change with nVidia and ATI putting H265 encoding chips onto/into their cards.
At that point, the circle will be complete.
If anyone's interested, there is an H265 encoder out there on the market for free called 'Internet Media Encoder' and it can crunch gigabytes into kilobytes using 4:4:4 source files. Very impressive. I'm also a beta tester for Fraps ( have been since 2006 ) and I got an email from them stating the next version of Fraps should be ready to test soon.
I'm quite tangential, but you got me in a typing mood, sir ;)

I think that CCP keeps EVE standing on a leg for no good reason, and no matter how proficent it has become doing it, it would be better set with two legs.
Anyway, i've kinda given up to changing the game. I enjoy it day by day and when I stop having fun with it I will stop playing it (again) and will play something else for a while.

My reasons were not just with the game but with CCP being able to make logical, rational and justifiable decisions - and not suffer from Ivory tower syndrome.
You should also learn that the people I started the game with are all but gone, got married, had children etc etc and I was one of the last.
I went to 0.0 on my first day in a noob ship with a civ mining laser, 5,000 isk and a dream. All the while I was using a dialup modem.
Prior to that, I was posting on the forums in 2001 before the game went live for testing, when people were just talking about this game and making suggestions.

That's cool. Just hard to discuss, give feedback or anything real constructive when your precise reasons for how you feel aren't really on the table.
In anycase I'm sure you have your reasons and #respect. Good luck and have fun wherever you end up next!
I'll stick around, despite being unhappy with certain aspects of the game, because I have a TON of fun with the rest of it. If you don't then sure, I don't think anyone's going to try to convince you otherwise. Having played many online games myself, spanning back twenty years (and working within more than one also) I learned that you gotta take the good with the bad. I find the balance here to my liking at least. The bits I don't like? Well I'm too busy having fun in the good bits to spend time trying to change the world.
If you find yourself feeling the opposite then yeah, maybe it's not for you, regardless of 14 years spent banging your head against it.
Best of luck sir n' have fun!!

For me the players make the game.
Anyway you write good posts, seem intelligent and level headed about how you feel and obviously find something good enough here to keep drawing you back. I hope along the way you find something that makes it worth staying.

Probably our concepts of "game that people want to play" are different, and maybe are totally opposite. But I feel the same, EVE is the game someone wants to make for artistical(?) and/or ideological(?) reasons, not necessarily a game others would want to play.

Perhaps oddly, I didn't do it 'cause I think I'm badass, I did it because I wanted to go to the edge of the map and see what was there. For some reason I believed that the edge of the map wasn't the edge, and that the map would fill in once I got to the edge and I found a new system to explore.
In other words, I wanted to go where no pod pilot had gone before, find a new race of aliens, and then **** them - fly back and get my brown wings pinned on me from someone...
Alas, the map was the map and there was nothing new to explore - just more rocks to mine.

I'm going toi disagree with the op. being here for nearly 11 years now, the past year has actually had huge improvements over the past 10. i feel less of ccp looking for the next big shiny and neglecting stuff. i see them actually following through with things, a few exceptions like the nestor, but all in all things are going well.
"Wasting development money" is a dumb criticism of a video game company. it really is. for its ccp money, and they need to expand to other products or they die. Nature of business. HOWEVER, the money they were spending on eve proper seems to be going to better use. As i said, it feels like features are less half assed, and and being taken to there final conclusion as opposed to a 'oh we will finish that later' and never touch again.
But hey that's just me.
