Well... you have come to the forum section where questions can be answered. So ask away.
What kind of help do you need?

You shouldn't be afraid to ask questions in this section of the forum. Lots of questions. It's what it's here for. Just remember that Google is your friend and will help you with some of the most basic ones if consulted. You might also want to get into a corp pretty early in your Eve career, as the game is - for most - more enjoyable with friends. For that use Nightcrawlers guide on how to find a good corp. With a good corp to back you up you will find it much easier to enjoy the game. |

I'm a personal fan of "try everything" and write down questions as you go. But youtube does have a fairly good selection of clips that can teach you things.
Also... understand that EVE is a "process game"... so even if you read and watch all the tutorials you will still often find yourself scratching your head. This is actually why many of us like the game and stick with it for so long (it is "challenging" and there is always a very real chance for "failure").

challenges arent intimidating, its just the process of learning such a vast, complex universe, im used to smalled games like diablo2:LoD which ive played for 13 years and i know the ins and outs and upside downs of, which im sure some of you are like on eve. I understand that it will take a VERY long time to get to any sort of amazingness BUT a person to play with and show me the ropes or let me learn from them would be nice |

Kristofir Lukzelewski wrote:ive played for 13 years and i know the ins and outs and upside downs of, which im sure some of you are like on eve. Oh ho... the beauty of EVE is that no one person can understand ALL the ins and outs of every aspect of the game. There is simply too much to know.
For example:
I consider myself an "outlaw." I know how to survive in high-sec (1.0 to 0.5 space) and low-sec (0.4 to 0.1) space... I know how to engage in small gang PvP warfare (skirmish and brawling)... I know how to kill players (and NPCs) using the cheapest possible equipment using the least amount of effort... I know most of the aggression rules by heart... and I know how to make money from all of the above.
However... when it comes to harvesting, industry, trading/markets, and 0.0 warfare... I only have cursory knowledge. Anyone dedicated in those fields will certainly outperform me.
When it comes to wormholes and inter-corporation/alliance politics... I know nothing (and not for lack of trying).
And it has taken me almost 5 years to get to this level of knowledge.
My advice is to pick something you may like (any single aspect) and start learning about it. You can pick by having an idea. ANY idea! Do you want to build? Do you want kill other players? Do you want to pirate? Gank? Play economic warfare? Search for "secret" sites in space and pick through the loot? Do you want to make a service? Bank? Art and Media? Propaganda?
EVE is the closest you will ever get to a "sandbox." There are no "ropes" to show anyone without first picking something you want to do.

First of all...Do what ever you want to do for fun. Don't fall for the common trap that you must "mission" or "mine".
Second...It is a MMO. Get into contact with players, be it general people or people that match your playstyle. For all your friendly help, join Help Chat - Reloaded
It's a player ran Help chat for new players but at the same time also just a community channel where people just have a friendly chat with each other and exchange stories and ideas.

The biggest issue here. Not many people will do the "play with the new player and show them the ropes" thing.
A. It means that the veteran has to do something where the new player can "keep up" with (no use of having a new player join you in your Incursion fleet - it will end bad).
B. It takes time from the veteran's play time to do this. As it is a game, most people like to get as much fun out of it as possible in that time.
Not saying there are NO players who do this, but their numbers aren't large either. As mentioned above though, there are a lot (as in a metric shitload) of players who love to assist you with any questions through an in game chat and if you are near them and you need help or they can provide you with something, they will most likely help out.

ya eve is not a linear game like others. You kind of have to find your own way. Other's can help you on your path but no one can show you what path to walk.
Definitely need to make friends in this game it's no fun alone. If you can't decide on a player corp many of them have public chat channels. you can join those channels to talk with people and ask questions and see which works best for your playstyle before you join. There are many ways you can do this: some corps that you find in the recruitment UI in game you can right click and join channel if they have one. Some corps on the recruitment forums list channels and I've even seen when I look at character info and then look at his / her corp will sometimes see a channel link the the description of the corp or even alliance.
You can only read and watch videos to a point in this game. The only way to really know something is experience it and you will at some point just have to go try stuff and then the reading will make more sense.
You can do almost everything in this game with only a few hours of skill queue time. Don't get caught in the trap of thinking that you need the "best ship" for the job or max skills. For newer players the main thing that hold them back is their personal knowledge of the game not character skill points. Plenty of vets have started fresh characters and gone out and done stuff with low skill points to prove the point. The cool thing is that you learn this game by playing it so go out and play.
As far as mission running I would say that running missions is a good way to learn how to fly your ship early on. The amount that you can learn from them caps out at a point and if you continue to just run missions over and over it will get boring. However certainly good for getting your feet wet and getting you some isk.
Not sure where in Michigan you are but there is a meet up scheduled for march 14 in Grand Rapids. http://www.evemeet.net/index.php/upcoming-meets/west-michigan-meetup just thought since you lived in Michigan that I'd mention it. |

Take a look at Public Roams if you want to PvP.
Redemption Road - Has weekly roams & a monthly "Newbro" roam that is designed for new players (including handing out free ships to use).
RvB Ganked - Weekly roams. Many different FCs and almost all are fun to fly with.
Spectre Fleet - Regular public roams
And of course, there is Agony Unleashed, who will hosts special PvP Uni classes for those interested in PvP.

I would actually recommend going to an EVE meetup even if you are a nubbin and/or "terrible." Or even just curious about the game in general.
The last time I went to a meetup (here in San Francisco, California) a guy who was new to the game showed up. He asked questions and got lots of answers. I think he was even recruited into someone's wormhole corporation (and trained to live in one) because, "he was pretty chill."
Never underestimate the power of being social in this game. More often than not... people will recruit others not because of their abilities as a player/character, but because they are fun people to "hang out" with (of course... every corp has their own set of standards).
If I was in charge of recruitment for my own corp... I would personally favor people with the "right attitude" over someone with lots more skills and experience.
Change isn't bad, but it isn't always good. Sometimes, the oldest and most simple of things can be the most elegant and effective.
