Simple question really, is an nvidia gtx960 considered good? Is it over kill and a 7 series good enough? |

Anything in the 200-300 $ range is good enough. More expensive cards, you should question yourself: do I really need it? am I really gonna use it?
I think a 760 with 2 Gb of DDR5 is your best bang-per-buck ATM. If you can find it with 4 Gb, the more the merrier.

Thanks for the replies. On another note, how does the Intel hd4600 manage eve, if at all? Doesn't need to be spectacular, is it any good? I know it's not as good as a dedicated, but does it work? |

Also OP, overkill for what? You have to give us some details on what you are doing/playing on your PC before people can truly help you.

Also stay away from Intel graphics. they are decent in a pinch or for non gamers, but you would be way better off with a dedicated card if you attempting to play eve or any other game for that matter.
Apologies for lack of info, you're quite correct it is hard to help without it! To elaborate, I will mostly play eve on it. The main reason for this whole query was I am knocking together a desktop to keep in the conservatory for those days I wanna chill playing eve, looking "outside". I don't have a great budget, but have managed to cobble together a quad core and based rig that seems ok but currently has a very old gpu.
To add a further complication, the monitor I currently have only has an svga input, I note higher end cards only have dvi-d outputs.
Despite this desktop being amd based, is nvidia still advised, or would an ati card be better, does it really matter? |

Always a pleasure to see you in my thread, but sadly for the reasons in my previous post, this card is a non starter. Cheapest one I can find in UK is -ú290! |
