Hi guys, I'm htinking baout buying a 4K TV. All my games at epic res, because why not? The thing that puts me off is I multibox quite frequently on eve and would like to be able to split my 4K into 4 quarters giving me 4x Full HD displays. I really don't like using unfixed window mode as it really messes with my UI layout. Is it possible to either define where a client will open in fixed window mode, I'm guessing so since I've changed monitor res and size etc and it's opened as if t were before my resolution change. Does anyone know where I find this? Or my other option is some kinda third party app that will allow me to "simulate" 4 monitors from a single display, allowing me to simply select adapter 1 thru 4 from the eve display settings.
Thanks in advance.

There's this AMD Hydravision that lets you define boxes on screen and it will allow you to lock the upper left corner of the clients onto them. The eve client has a certain minimum window size so your boxes can be set to that size. I play(ed) in windowed mode using this tool. |

Im hoping youve got about -ú1500 of graphics cards lying around cause thats what you are going to need..Maybe not for Eve for for anything else...

Got two GTX 760's at the moment, would see how it went first.

Not sure how well that would work considering I haven't got any AMD hardware at all!

Nvidia doesn't have anything as such, maybe the screen can handle it with built-in hardware? If that fails, the only option is to run 4x windowed.
As far as 4K goes, you are not going to have enough frame buffer on a GTX760 to handle anything at that resolution and have to downsample. |

Have you thought about using ISboxer? No it isn't banned, just broadcasting part of it isn't allowed. It allows me to do what you are describing once setup.

Which is shown as a working concept in this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vJL0VIKuLXU Notice how he does all the clicking in the (visible part of) each client individually. So create an environment that mirrors the individual client's display portions into the four corners of the 4K display. |

For playing games fullscreen, pretty much this. The significant increase in total pixels between for instance 720p and 1080p is probably the main reason why most games on consoles weren't/aren't running on full-HD. With UHD, or 4K, you'll be quadrupling the amount of pixels your videocard(s) will have to show. For basic things like watching a movie or a slideshow this isn't a problem, but it will become a problem when you're trying to play games.
The biggest resolution I've worked with so far was about 3240 x 1080 (cool project, but that aside). When they ran their program on the full-HD monitor, there was no problem at all regarding FPS, however when they ran it on the big screen, the framerate dropped from about 30FPS to somewhere between 2 and 7 FPS. This is why a bunch of students (us) had to write a program that had to beat a Gé¼ 50,000.00 program regarding FPS, or even better, that could run at +/- 30FPS, while keeping the basic functions of the application.

Look for a program called ShiftWindow, before I got my newest videocard and a 3rd monitor I had to use it to shift my fixed window client 1 screens width to the left. Its gonna take a bit to get it setup, but it can do the job you seem to be asking for. You would be settings your screen area in eve, and then setting the top left origin with ShiftWindow. |

But really, from what I have read about it it's a subscription app rather than single purchase or free. In short, no thanks.

As for graphics issues, I've run my game across both my monitors before now, (2x Full HDs) which would be half that of a 4K and it ran just fine. If I was having trouble with res and framerate I guess I'd just have to upgrade :p

You might also consider giving a program called Display Fusion Pro a try. I use it to run sperate screen savers and wallpapers on different monitors, but it can also be used to split a single monitor into multiple virtual monitors. It will even allow custom split view configurations, i.e. top left, top right and bottom right quarters as single virtual screens with the bottom left quarter split into a further four screens.
You should be able to use the standard version for free, and they include a 30 day free trial for the Pro version, which you will need to test/use the monitor splitting function.

Yeah well that particular wasn't in the first post.. A quick googel of the keywords 'grid display nvidia' shows they have their own official nView Desktop Manager thingie that has the same functionality of the AMD Hydravision. I haven't tried it but it describes a Display Gridlines, Open windows on, and Snap window edges by.
Here's some links on the topic: http://www.nvidia.com/object/gridlines.html http://www.tweakguides.com/NVFORCE_8.html |
