To some extent, i miss a more interactive and visible NPC population. Only "visible" NPC population, is the transport convoys.
Im not sure if this is what eve players want or if its in CCP future visions plans... but it would be interesting in my point of view to have a more diverse NPC population, which you could both hire, use or even kill.
Whitin the game, there is many different types of personell, scientists, strippers, stranded pilots, ect ect.
What if players could hire such NPC personell, for a monthly wage, to boost Your science, Productions, flying some ships, do some mining for you, hell... have strippers give ya a lapdance amd make your day brighter that gives you a bonus like Quafe Zero does :D Have NPC personell run PI for ya.....
Lets say you aquire some pilots and you want them to fly miningships, u need to Train them, while they get payed. Skilling of these, takes the same amount of time as regular training, all the same as an alt, but it will work on its own. A transport pilot, will run the transport for ya as you order it to do. Have pilots do protection on Your miningfleet....

i'm fine with NPCs helping with things like sci ect
However an NPC should never do what a player can do.
I.E.
hauling
mining
providing an industry slot
helping with missions or other forms of combat
Eve is about interacting with players. NPCs should only exist to promote that interaction and nothing more(or provide decoration)

I do see Your point and actually agree With parts of it on the basis what EVE is built upon, but one vital part of EVE is players fighting NPC rats... Rats are NPC... should there be NPC personell thats good we could interact With? not just fight them? |

Maybe if cou can chose when you create new character if it will be pilot or some kinda of planet governor....hmmm.
These governors can make some NPC "live" and interaction in system, maybe proposing pilots for missions, like I wanna set up mining colony on some belt or anomaly, but i need you to clean the rats XXX times to do that.
And pilots can chose to help these governors or damage what they try to make. |

So here in this thread, we started out with a request for more visible NPC life in New Eden because it's pretty empty and then we abruptly switched gears and now are talking about EVE SimCity?
Am I following this correctly?
EDIT: Apparently I missed the part about hiring NPCs to do things with you. That's what friends (and unfortunately alts) are for. |

To drag it into Your view of the idea.... sort of.... we allready have some visible npc, the rats and transport convoys, so in Your view, youre allready then in EVE simcity.
It comes to a point when friends and yourself/alts, dont even bother to do some of the tedious tasks... it has come so tedious that friends wont do it for isk either. Try ooutsources work to unkown players... hahahaha

yes and there can be a lot of isk made in doing those tedious things than nobody else wants to do.
as for your question on hostile NPCs those create player interaction by getting players into space to shoot at them who can than be in turn shot at.

Exactly... alot of isk to made if you have the time and no life and can sit hr upon hr upon hr, 24/7.... to outsource the work ends With a negative profit when all is made. I have a friend which is a big industry manufacurer in EVE... he couldnt mine enough and hadnt the time to sit mining and gave up... He tried hiring in People to do the endless tedious work, but there was no room for profit. So he Works the marked hard, but it aint easy when you have to turn every stone and attic to get what u need. The problem is that most of the mining is done by New players and there aint enough generation of New players to keep up With the demand of minerals. Its a evil downward spiral that only ends when too many givs up on industry. Anyways... keep rambling on about that, aint creative lol
Anyways....
Lets say you could outsource mining to NPC crew/pilots, but to not screw the miners completely, NPC pilots can only fly mining frigates... and put a restriction on how many pilots you could use, With either a limit or accumulative rising upkeepcost pr pilot.
