Forgive if this is a double post but i searched and found nothing regarding Directional scan other then recon changes.
That being said the bulk of this idea came from Sinshisko Van Raynar of Space Harvesters. A humble miner, who builds ships for an Orca gank recovery clinic.
Why does an Ibis have the same D scan capabilities as an Avatar? Would not a more advanced, or larger, ship have an improved scanning array? I don't propose a nerf to anything D scan related post recon changes, and thats not what this thread is about. A buff seems needed though. If a capitol can move light-years via navigation computer, surely it can scan out to say 30 AU locally?
Thoughts? |

I agree with you, and to add to that, i believe lesser ships (ones not build for scanning or smaller, more basic hips should have something to effect scan abilities, like scan resolution or something, for instance a frigate has to be within 2.5 AU to get a clear result or something, while a Raven BS can scan out too 15 AU with good resolution, and EWAR and technologically more advance vessels (Scorpion and Nestor) would scan out to 50 AU or further with almost perfect scan res within 25AU.. Would be nice to, as you said, have a scanning array a bit bitter then a Shuttle on a Titan. |

Firstly,
F&I is that way -->
But more importantly, we already have that. The d scan is like a simple sonar that can fit anything right down to a pod. If you want a more advances sensor array then you need to fit one. See: expanded probe launcher |

Personally, I'd be willing to give up a slot to fit something that enhanced my dscan. Maybe not range, since you're correct that probe launchers solve the range problem.
I would love to have a module that I could activate that would auto-update my dscan display without me breaking my finger.

Maybe the D-Scan is installed in the capsule.

I would suggest that the D-scan is primarily an evolution of sensor equipment designed to show immediate navigational hazards...
Therefore if there were to be any variation of D-Scan ranges based on ship type I would say that it should be tied to warp speed rather than size... Special attention should probably be given to scientific vessels (the exploration frigs, covert ops and SoE ships) in addition but the Scorpion ties its systems up with sensor integrity and so forth rather than sensor resolution... probably not the ship to go to to determine what's lying in the Legrange of that small moon.
However, the level playing field of D-Scan has been in place since day one, it was intentional and I think there would be significant balance issues in changing it... |

Balance has nothing to do with it. I explained the details twice now. Read and be informed.

Because it goes against the whole "There is no best ship in EVE" theme... |
