From what I hear Caldari sucks at solo PvP?
Are there any good cruisers for it?
Have I wasted my time? :(

They don't really 'suck' per se, but the vast, vast majority of them are shield tankers. Which means that if you want to tackle/solo, you need to gimp your tank.
If you have someone tackling for you, they work just fine. ======================================== I now leave you to your... MOOSEY FATE!! |

Yeah, they're fine for gang/fleet combat, but solo... not so much.

A nicely fitted caracal can be pretty dirty when it comes to cruiser vs cruiser pvp.

They suck for solo piracy.
They do not suck for many other things.

And it will die miserably to a nicely fit thorax, rupture or vexor.. and maybe some other cruisers as well :)
Caldari do suck for solo pvp. Been there, did that, i know what i say. That was the reason i switched to gallente, which is teh-uber-pwn-solo race.
about using t2 ships for piracy like cerberus - check its price, its very high. Besides i still think other race t2 ships perform better at solo pvp. Caldari just isnt meant for solo pvp, mission running ang gang fights are its strenghts

Edited by: welsh wizard on 27/09/2006 17:30:33 Aye they not the best race to fly if you're going to pvp solo (with some noteable exceptions (crow, raven)). As someone said above they need their midslots for tanking. Scram, web and propulsion gimp their tank.
Caldari ships are generally the least damaging compared to other ships in their class which doesn't help either. They generally have high burst damage but low DPS which doesn't really help in 1v1's.
On the plus sisde they have very well defined roles which makes them second to none if you have a friend with you.

I have killed a vexor and a rupture piloted by the same guy in my caracal. But got raped by his thorax later.

Caldri ships are not the best when it comes to SOLO PVP. But they can't be beat when it comes down to Tag team action, PVE or Interceptors (Crow owns all). ------------------------------------- AANI ARCH |

Main issue with Caldari and solo pvp is that they are shield tankers. So you use alot of mid slots for your tank rather than web/scram/ecm etc....
In gangs where you have a tackler or two then caldari T1 ships are very good. ------------------------------------------------------

That's a lie.
Any caracal that loses by a wide margin to a thorax is piloted by a fool. Even if the Caracal starts at 5km from the thorax, it will still probably win.
Caldari have tons of very good solo PvP ships. Its in gangs that they suck, primarily.
Kestrel = best suicidal T1 frig for ganking inties (for less than 1.5m you can fit a decent T2 setup and win a good portion of the time). Caracal = best long-range cruiser, and can also do well at close range. Needs RCUS to be fit properly and good shield upgrades skill. Will lose to most Mallers, some vexors, and some ruptures. Raven = People whine about it being overpowered, so it must be good. etc
No, the Caracal isn't as good as the Rupture overall for close range PvP, but its not horrible either.

Most Caracal fittings I see are pretty crap these days.
They either use assault missiles, don't have dual large shield extenders, or both.
A platerax with electrons (1600 + electrons or 800 + ions with at least one or two hardeners) can beat a Caracal though.
However, if a well-fitted Caracal starts far enough away to get 3-4 volleys off before the Thorax gets in range (20-30km away), it will probably win regardless.
The main issue with the Caracal is in order for it to be the most effective, it needs T2 heavy launchers (which with Fury heavies can give 35-45% extra DPS over Limos). But they cost so much that a cheaper Thorax with heavy electron IIs is more cost-effective.

Less 1337 talk and more english required to not sound like a dumbass. Besides that is a dead "language" from the early to mid 90's. Let dead dogs lie. Also, makes you look smarter if you speak english or even any other actual language instead.
That is all.

Yup, when you spend 30m to fit Heavy Launcher II's...the fact is that caracal has much less bang/buck than the rest of the cruisers ingame.
But yes the caracal is good, only loses points because the PC market has such high demand for caldari related stuff (more caldari chars).

I'm not saying caldari suck, they're good in certain situations..... mostly gang PvP. The OP was asking about solo, for that, they suck. And yes, if engage a caracal and start at 20 - 30km, he has a very good chance to win, due to the MWD and it's Sig Radius boost. But generally people don't fit caracals the way they should be, by the time i'm in range my drones have already tore his shields to shreds and his armor is no defence against blasters. I usually come out of fights against caracals at that range with no less 50% armor left.
This is just my personal experiences, i'm not saying that all caracals pilots suck. I know there are people out there that would tear my thorax a new one.... so to speak. --------------------------
