I want to get some feedback from other players about my male toon being able to wear the woman's clothing. I think it would help the "si fi" aspect of the game.. what do you guys think? |

I think it's a splendid idea, why are clothes locked between sexes, isn't that sexist? in most progressive games you can swap clothing, why not Eve? is Eve behind the times? is there intolerance against wearing another genders clothes still? why can't women wear suits?
These are questions that need addressing. |

Yes yes yes. 90% of the characters are white, skinny, good looking boring balls of **** completely lacking any, well, character. Had WIS come to pass it would have been like walking around in some weird dystopian nightmare.
Eve can be pretty sterile particularly when you're new and don't know anyone, showing info on a dozen identical peeps in local during an idle moment isn't going to help with that feeling.

Eh, why not? Call it weird if you want ('cause I know someone is bound to cry "FREAK!"), but who's really by definition "normal" anyways? I'm a guy who dresses like a guy, but that doesn't make me normal, just makes me a guy who dresses like a guy. My 2 ISK, anyways.
Besides, I think it could be hilarious in some cases. No offense intended, but imagine being ganked by a guy in high heels... |

This is a good idea.
I would love it if CCP quietly lead the way in gender identity expression in games.
Subtle things at first like allowing both genders to wear traditionally gendered clothing in non-comical ways would be great!
I appreciate that you made this post, I was thinking about posting a while ago that tights for male identified avatars would be something that wouldn't be as hard to implement as some of the other gendered clothing. |

More people would probably care about what their characters looks like if it was ever seen by other people. What's the point of putting effort into it to look different right now? |

What's the point of putting effort into it to look different right now? For us? Meh, it's for messing about when we're bored. But we're not hugely relevant (beyond NES sales) as we make a choice whether it interests us and use it/ignore it accordingly.
But it is literally the first thing new players do. The problem which this thread (and others) more hopes to help is that many of us find its cookie-cutter nature a pretty disappointing experience and given it's such a prominent part of the NPE that really isn't great.
That and I'd probably buy a dress for trolling our more homophobic population. Maybe a Fedora for Sundays.

Only Gallente should be allowed to cross dress.
On a more serious note, I believe the primary reasoning for it is the difficulty in conforming the clothing to a new body style. The clothes they are making for our characters are not just cloth fabric that they toss onto a mannequin or person, but they are a collection of polygons which must be carefully manipulated and tweaked to conform to the shape of the body. Allowing someone to wear clothing cut for the opposite sex means it won't fit quite right, which is even more difficult to model than a good fit. So perhaps they are more than halving the development resources needed to fit clothing by not allowing cross-dressing.

That is a good point.
In some other games when you put women's clothing on a man (say a dress), then the man will have breasts.

2000 odd years ago, no one who saw them had any doubt whatsoever that a Roman legionaire was a guy. Irrespective of his lack of pants or his gender identity.
Togas and kilts were worn by various peoples because they worked, not as idle expressions of gender politics.
I've been ingame for a very long time. My various 'toons are intentionally divided by race, sex, apparent age, etc. [Why no obese people, ccp? It's the world's fastest growing body shape.]
Sadly, my Irish/Norwegian/Scots 'toon can't wear the traditional kilt because they don't exist in game. [not that could you see it.] But the right plaid would look great with his red hair and freckles.
i'm ok with this idea, but think I would rather CCP devote the programming time and energy required to content. |

Male pilots wearing female cloths in any faction's military group would be thrown out of the airlock faster than a minmatar slave.
It's counter-climatic and creates a precedence for all "political correctness" focused groups/media to take sudden interest and EVE and cry for more such options. And I don't want devs to focus on such important matters as dating options, gay references, racial equality and religious diversity (we all know the one true religion in EVE anyway - sponsored by Amarr Theology Council )
My counter proposal: allow female pilots not to wear uniform at all. Much more climatic .
