Current behaviour is to use predefined range (settable with RMB on target window). Which is kind of crude in functionality and makes those shortcuts (subjectively) semi pointless in the midst of the fight.
Adding option to make it use the current distance (after manual approach with spiral, etc.) would be pretty amazing and make those shortcuts far more useful. |

Edit: Ah, you mean a "orbit at my current range" shortcut, not right click, which already exists.
Yeah sure, why not I guess. |

I mean for it to always use distance to selected target at particular moment in time. If I apporach target and I am at 12755 meters and press orbit at - I start orbiting at 12755. If I repeat it some time later being at 5554 meters, then I start orbiting at 5554.
With current implementation we have RMB context menu and/or RMB "set default distance" - but none really are exactly flexible. Radial menu with mouse dragging is a bit closer to the idea, but still not exactly "this".
It's literally a matter of adding extra line to "Selected Item"'s context menu - next to 'Set Default "Orbit" Distance' and 'Set Default "Keep at Range" Distance'. E.g. "Always use actual distance as orbit/kar distance". |

The point is about bringing this functionality to shortcut keys - for now they always use single custom set distance. |

Actually let's go further and remove every shortcut in the game so we can click to our heart contents. After all why press a key to do anything when you can spend 0.2 second more and click it. While we're at that, let's also remove module grouping and go back to 2003 - why click once, when we can click many times ? Genius!!!!
/sarcasm
Please go and inject your wisdom into other threads, especially if you see no reason why a proper shortcut (instead of rigidly predefined one) is better than going through separate RMB context menu and aiming at some near-bottom option which says "current" but is far cry from that a second later for any ship in motion, not mentioning mwd-cycle exiting frigate. |

Shortcut for orbit current range? Why not a shortcut for orbit at 500,, and another for 1000m, and another for 2500m, and 5000m, and 7500m... The line has to be drawn somewhere, and setting the shortcut for a default variable that you can adjust on the fly (kinda the opposite of rigidly defined there, dontcha think?) is a pretty good line.

I like it. Why is there no shortcut for this?
In fact, it would be nice to see on the radial menu as well.
Either as an option to replace the default orbit distance of the radial menu button, or it could be the next option up just before 500m.

thats a great idea for the little things thread.
shift click on the "selected item" buttons for keep at range and orbit could be the default binding for keep kurrent range/orbit. I don't think its used.
how to fix eve: 1) remove ECM 2) rename dampeners to ECM 3) add new anti-drone ewar for caldari 4) give offgrid boosters ongrid combat value
