The question is Eve The Old Kid on The Block Like DayZ (Of Course Eve Isnt In Alpha) However I do Believe You can teach a old dog new tricks. I ask The Community And The Devs to Think Outside The Box. Its Not To Late To Save Eve From Demise. I ask to really try to understand why some games are popular than others without the Hardcore vs Casual bias. I think we all can learn something by reading this and perhaps draw a parallels. I want nothing more Like every other player to make eve online the greatest Sci Fi military MMO in the world. so please lets not troll or berate each other lets keep the posts civil and on topic thanks. http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2015/01/28/h1z1-alpha-review/

Ultima, DoTA, Anarchy, Everquest, et cetera. There were many games before WoW.
I maintain that Waste of Web, aka World of Warcraft was so popular because it was the first MMO that ran on almost any machine and could be played by any idiot.
Now you are coming along and expecting the whole of EVE to change, all those masses and masses of code, thousands of lines of it to suit you. Why? What is the point?
Why should they undo years of work and try and compete on a different level with games that have already won? Why should they alienate their players and destroy their reputation in the wider MMO community? Why should they get labelled as a company that sold out?
It makes absolutely no sense.
Stop asking CCP to flush EVE down the toilet.

WoW has better PvE content. Twitchy high end Hardcore mode multi raid bosses always updated. Challening daily dungeons, intricant crafting/slotting/industry. ELITE AREANa pvp. Yes guys orbit@500 or keep at range 20k or F1 is baby combat to SPLIT/MILI SECOND twitch pvp, cast interupts silences, etc twittttchy. Battlegrounds are fun and competitive.
People bust on WoW, but they rich for a reason. $=good production Overall only eve has better is Scams/griefing/stealing and spaceships and lasers.
Slowly the sandbox is getting more regulated and themeparked up anyways.

My ex played it with their RL friends. Had a troll warrior and an undead priest. It was utter rubbish. The AI was above average and the transitions between zones were good. That was all. Even in high end raids I felt like I could just mash my fingers on any of the short cut keys with their abilities and it would change nothing. Levelling up, I was constantly asked, "Can I boost you? We need a good tank in our raids," and I would always reply that I was going to play all that content that someone had put work into making.
It is the most infantile, bubble gum brained game I have ever played on a computer that I can think of and you only need to look at all the kids screaming for short cuts to see who it appeals to, "The game only begins at max level!" "Boosts plz"

Well here is a chance to show some truth.
I read the review, then the Reddit page.
One thing stands out: they promised the game would not be P2W, meaning the air drops would be "cosmetic", then the airdrops started dropping things that gave an advantage.
So this says to me that Eve is not going out, because in the end, they have not gone P2W.
You see that "summer of rage" back in the past had NOTHING to do with WiS. Nothing. It was not impressive for sure, but that's not what it was all about.
So you know what, the ONLY thing that keeps Eve around is, it's not P2W. Period. And all that rage was not "poor people who can't grind" complaining. It was the people who actually care about the game, and know how fast Eve is truly nuked if it ever goes P2W.
Raise your hand if you tried WoT and left because you got one-shotted too many times by "gold ammo" or shot another tank 10 times and nothing because you didn't have it.
So Eve will persist as a successful "old kid on the block", the kind that the other kids who will live fast and die young will want to be like, but will fall easily to the lure of "monetization" and be forgotten in mere months.
But the minute Eve becomes P2W it's so over the demise of both Death Stars will look like farts in a hurricane.

LORD OF THE rings online went Free to Play but ya still either gotta grind 25hrs a day or just shell oit money to them any2ays to play/win. Now the game is almost dead. Its seriously very sad.
But alson id argue that how ya said only reason Eve is still around is cuz it aint P2W aint true. Only reason is cuz of THE TRAILER CCP MADE YEARS AGO SAYING YOU COULD BE THE VILLIAN!
Remember that one? Bout corp heist and such, Be the BadGuy! Be the Villian. Then erry few months even major news channels repoet on "some online gamer lost 15k or real money in a game!!"
People are here cuz of meaningful pvp loss and cuz its basically only big mmo you can Scam/Grief/Steal/Humilate/Suicide bombs/etc etc.
Those are the ONLY SINGLE reason why seriosuly. |

Jenshae Chiroptera wrote:I maintain that Waste of Web, aka World of Warcraft was so popular because it was the first MMO that ran on almost any machine and could be played by any idiot. WoW was actually pretty amazing right up until after Ulduar in WotLK, and especially during vanilla and BC. The pve content was very challenging (only a small amount of people completed the high-end raids), and the game, its professions, items, and lore had this nice exploratory feeling to it. The pvp was also interesting, if not very engrossing (or maybe the other way around?). Those day-long AV matches were really something.
Then they decided to open up the game to the casuals, and I mean the really casual casuals, at the end of WotLK. We're literally talking free purpz here. Routine started being encouraged instead of effort, and the game quickly went downhill. That's when I quit. Oh, and here's the EVE-relevant kicker: when they did that, they lost like a third of their subs. And now they had to go back on a lot of the changes, while also turning the game into something new entirely, in order to reverse that damage.
I wrote some true EVE stories! And no, they're not of the generic "my 0.0 alliance had lots of 0.0 fleets and took a lot of 0.0 space" sort. Check them out here:

WoW was pretty good until mid-way through WotLK tbh. I still consider TBC as the golden age of WoW, the raiding system back then was perfect. |
