Edited by: Ishquar Teh''Sainte on 27/09/2006 19:32:02 well ... today when i entered Oijanen in my lovely blasterranis, there was a worm - idling at the gate ... after 30 seconds or so he warped off to the first belt ...
though i swore to myself a few weeks ago to stop pirating newbies in lowsec i went after him - faction ship is faction ship ... well when i entered the belt he was there - idling again at the warp in spot (not even aligning for a new belt as there were no rats in the belt) ... so i quickly engaged him and destroyed his ship ...
wasn't thinking much about it - as lowsec is a harsh place (you all know the drill ) but then there was something odd in the can - he had 2 civilian shieldbooster fitted
in fact the char was 26 days old .. and flying a faction frigate and acting in lowsec like someone who never heard of pirates (as his pod was then idling for five minutes at his can .. i didn't pod him as i didn't want the sec-loss) ...
so now i'm wondering ... has something similar happened to you?? some newbie in a ship where you only can think: WTF??!? ___________________

Grammar/spell check is your best friend
Anyway, a few friends and I ransomed a 3 week old flying a Prophecy He claims to have only had 2.5 mil, but I wasn't in a particularly bloodthirsty mood that evening so I accepted it. After which I warned him to stay out of lowsec with it until he could fly it properly. He only had 'small' beam lasers on it
None of us were even hit. And the guys I was flying with were all < 2 months old with almost all industrial skills, using frigs.
I really hope the guy learned his lesson... but I doubt it. ======================================== I now leave you to your... MOOSEY FATE!! |

Its likely that he was ratting guristas in low sec and foud a dread spawn that dropped the bpc.
Rare but it can happen.

i used to get the BPC's regularly as a noob, up too 4-5 a day running the 2/10 complex's in empire, it used to drop em from the first stage gate keeper. Then get a buddy to build it for min cost and your away. dunno what its like now though(nerfed?), but a 26 day old noob would never shell out for one then take it into low sec, no way.

I have seen the converse of this, where you find a realtively new player in a tech I ship, but it is loaded with high end modules and they don't really make any sense as a holistic fit. For example, armor and shield tanking equipment on the same ship, or mods that will fit on a cruiser, but really shouldn't be on anything but a battleship because of their expense.
I think that some of this comes from Eve's fantastically complex fitting system and most casual players not knowing enough about combat or the market to understand enough about the available options and strategies to come up with a fit that makes much sense.

Some 2 weeks ago i spot a catalyst and an atron mining together in a 0.8 system. I check the info and the cat was in an alliance for 1 day while the other was still in the noob corp. Hoping for a nice drop, i switch cans and wait to be engaged. The catalyst locks and forgets to switch target, starting to shoot the asteroid - :))))). After finally realizing his mistake he engages me. While i was happy pummeling him to dust, his Atron buddy starts firing at me. When the cat was down to 75% structure, Concord comes to the rescue, saving me from the dreaded atron and his 2 electron blasters - some guard. I happily pick up the loot and then proceed to a SS thinking that some alliance buddies will come to introduce themselves to me. After about 13 min or so i decide to insta to the station. When i arrive there i see the dude that was in the catalyst, now in an Iteron 1 with one 150mm rail fitted. Before tackling him, he warps to the gate. I take a guess and warp at 3km from him. Lock, scramble, webb, orbit 500m ... at about half armor he realizes he is in trouble and decides to lock me. He was boosting the shields like crazy - fyi Iteron 1 has a shield HP of under 100, but finally the dreaded Iteron succumbs to my incredible power. Among the delights he had fitted, 2 27.44% cargo mods survived intact. Sold them for 60 mil. :)
3 days later i was cruising another system - an 0.7 this time, and i see a Vexor mining. I had been killed by a vexor the day before, as 5 hammerheads I are no trifle, so i start observing him. He had 3 Hornet 1's orbiting him. There was a chance that he was showing just 3 for bait - 5 months old char, there was a chance that his buddies may have been in a near-by system, but i thought that it deserved a shot. I switch cans, he engages me, i keep him scrambled while i webb and kill his drones one by one. The next 4-5 minutes were ... long, his tank was failing as his small shield booster couldn't keep up with the damage, but in the end he was also destroyed. 10 minutes later his buddies jump in - local goes from 5 to 9, and after waiting my time in a SS, i go to the only station in the system at 30km from the station ... and i wait for them to find me. After abotu 15 min i decide to start giving them hints "this matarr station is very ugly", "duct-tape technology ftw" ... and i get orbitted at close range by 1 vexor with 5 tech 2 hobgoblins and 3 catalysts with another 3 drones ... it was a very nice dance. :) --------------------------------------------------

I was that newbie. :)
I've wandered into .4 space before and from checking local can see no one in the system. At that point I do a scan and see if there is anything worth in the system. Then I hunt for it.
There have been a couple of times where I have been looking like I was idle. :)
Some nice gear to be found in .4 space if you have the ability to hunt it.

Had a target in a Dominix in 0.2 yesterday. Shield boosted during the entire fight, and the killmail revealed he had a bunch of passive armor hardeners fitted in addition to his shield tank.... Dunno what was going through his mind when he fitted that Domininx. :)

Well not a kill as such but where I hang out in Aridia there's an RA pilot created in 2006 who regularly (as in does it all the time) rats the low sec there (if that doesn't seem strange, RA are based in Cache/Insmother, compare that to Aridia on the map).
Now that's slightly bizarre, what's more wierd is that to do this he flies a Cynabal (Angel faction cruiser) with at least two stabs to do so. Strage.
Also the Chinese isk farmers we kill in the local 5/10 plexes there (they're like a plague) often have some pretty funky BS fittings (Basic Cap charger on an Apoc anyone?). - - - - - - - - - -

I killed a raven in my curse that was NPCing once.
The raven was completely T2 fitted with precision cruise.
When I attacked him he said that he was just learning how to use the ship and I should stop or he would 'report me to a GM' for harassment/forcing him to PvP. So obviously I wet myself laughing at that comment, popped him.
He was then smacking in local how he had just started playing (T2 raven...eh?), that he was going to get me banned and that he'd get all his stuff back because he didn't want to PvP and therefore it 'wasn't fair'.
So I promtly petitioned for ebaying with a chatlog and the character doesn't exist anymore .

Its reading things like this that make me do stupid things.. like picking fights I shouldnt win. I have to stop assuming that players know how to setup their ships tbh. For example, I had the chance to attack a hawk but didnt... the next day I see the guy post his setup on the forums, and it was utterly crap, but included a gisti shield booster... I would have won the fight easily.
So from now on, I tend to attack ships I know should beat me, because you never know what kind of strange setups they have on them...
Edit: Nothing strange with the Raven setup you mentioned, but the player seems to be a complete newb, which got me thinking of my hawk incident. Alot of players arent very good. :)

I think one of my best odd kills was a month and a half old player in a raven with 2 1400 artillery, 2 425 railguns, 1 heavy missile launcher, 1 cruise missile launcher and 1 seige missile launcher. saved that killmail.
it took me many months to get my first bs all those years ago but i think there's much more isk available to noobs these days to get started so they're geting increasingly expensive ships at a young age.
