94 years and 4000+ stores, that is harsh
however, they have reached an agreement with others to sell off some stores etc so hopefully they will still be around for a bit longer. |

I'm not really familiar with what Radioshack does, but I can make a guess based on the name. It's always iffy when a business like that goes under. |

Cheap credit leading to far too many retail outlets, oops.
Radio shack not the only company in the same shape. Retail space in the US has expanded far beyond what is necessary.
Cheap credit, for both builders and buyers

Was sad when their sister company Tandy went under. It was like the Radio Shack of leather working. Punch awls, 20 kinds of steel tools for stamping design patterns onto Western belts. That kind of stuff. That closed long ago.
I kind of thing Radio Shack screwed up their franchise business model. They let people go with mini-stores, and didn't keep an eye on them. You could go into a little outback suburban store, and the guy is hard-selling you a US $80 USB cable. And you could go to a more trafficked Radio Shack store and get the same thing for 30 bucks. Chancey greed factor makes people want to go somewhere a little less chancey. Best Buy for example... Oh lord.

They made horrible business decisions, their purchasers were out of their minds... Still where else could you go and find that one particular transistor or resistor for that circuit board you were building.
I used to work at Radio Shack ages ago. I hated the work but enjoyed the customers... But I was a kid and it was my first post-high school job.
Reading this article (fairly good read) hit me in the feels as the young folks say: http://www.sbnation.com/2014/11/26/7281129/radioshack-eulogy-stories

I think the only people who really cared about RadioShack ended up going with monoprice.com, cause they are a lot cheaper and offer better products. I can see Radioshack going the way of Newegg, where they use to be a retail chain and then went online because that made the most sense. |

But the management that made decisions like merchandising RC PT Cruisers is not smart enough to do that. They'd also be roughly 10 years late.
