Hello to all you beautiful Space Commanders, Rear Amirals, Vice Admirals, Full Amirals, Captains of Industry, Dangerously Wicked Space Pirates....the list is long and distinguished...
Ive always wanted to really give Eve Online a real college try and now im finally doing it. Im reading the wiki and have just started the Tutorial.
I watched a Eve gameplay "uncensored" on youtube the other night and was really moved.
Ive read where it actually take a year to train some skills and it just blew my mind on something that could that complex and cool.
Anyway. I am just going to try and get thru the tutorial tonight and hope to get into the missions that are PVE and PVP focused.
I chose the Gallente Federation due to their wild type behavior and also their Freedom Fighter attitudes.

Welcome. Good luck to you.
Here is some recommended reading for you, in particular section 7.
Some things to always remember:
The only way to lose playing Eve is to get angry, they are only space pixels and there is never a reason to get angry. Frustrated? Sure, but not angry. Your frustration should be focused towards asking yourself what you can do better the next time you find yourself in a similar situation as opposed to thinking the game should be different or that it is unfair because a lot of the time it is unfair, but that is by design.
Teamwork will always trump skill points and/or isk invested in your ship.
The bigger ship is not necessarily better especially if you are not properly skilled and in many cases even if you are properly skilled.
High Security Space is relatively safer but not in any way safe. It can be argued that it is actually less safe than the lower security space categories as the danger is not nearly as apparent unless you are properly educated about the mechanics of the game.
Many things that seem like they should be something are not necessarily that thing. Vague, I know, but here is a good example: Dueling
Never fly what you can't afford to lose, this includes the contents of you cargo.
"Gankers are just other players, not supernatural monsters who will get you if you don't follow some arbitrary superstition. Haul responsibly and without irrational fear." Masao Kurata

welcome. this game is not like others there isn't much of a safety net. Don't get to thinking that there must be some type of game mechanic to protect you from what ever like in other games. Pretty much anything is fair game, scamming, trickery and what ever kind of asshattery that you can imagine. As long as you understand that up front you'll probably be fine. |

Awesome welcome to eve!
and just remember there are plenty of interesting things that take far less than a year to get into! from what I remember some of the most fun I had was in the first several months, Also frig pvp isn't always the most SP intensive combat, but can be highly player skill dependent.

Then again, there are many times where it will seem unfair but it was really due to your lack of knowledge about game mechanics or tactics your enemy will employ, one or two things you could have done differently would have saved you. Always convo your opponent after a fight and politely ask what you could have done better, you will gain knowledge and maybe even a friend. Most of the friends I have made started off as my enemy. Teamwork will always trump skill points and/or isk invested in your ship. The bigger ship is not necessarily better especially if you are not properly skilled and in many cases even if you are properly skilled. High Security Space is relatively safer but not in any way safe. Vague, I know, but here is a good example: DuelingNever fly what you can't afford to lose, this includes the contents of you cargo. I'm not trying to scare you away, it's just the tutorials don't really give you any idea of what is actually going on at the deep end of the pool, it only shows you the shallow end. For example, I am what is known as a suicide ganker, I live in high-sec and take things from people that don't properly protect them by killing their ship before the "police" known as Concord kill me. The tutorials won't tell you anything about people like me. (That recommended reading link above does briefly mention gankers though) Most of what I said will not affect you in any major way until you get a few months down the road (unless you buy PLEX) don't do that until you know what you are doing. Buying PLEX to have a good bank roll when you don't even know what to do with said bank roll will 9 times out of 10 lead to wasted isk and disappointment. Build your bank roll slowly and you will learn the game much better.
Thanks for the Reply, I really appreciate you trying to be up front and honest about what I am getting myself into... That always makes me feel so much better when I am trying something new to me...
I've played other MMO's before, but never this complex and where your knowledge actually plays a huge part of how things go....other than knowing which skills hit the hardest and which ones work best for PVP and or PVE and so on...
I have some quesitons for you though...and here they are....
What , How and Why did you Evolve yourself to beome more of a Mercenary Pilot other than lets say a "Benevolent Pilot"?
You refer to yourself as a "suicide ganker"....Does that mean you throw youself under the bus to take the person out?
I guess I would like some clarification on that terminology if you please...
But the main thing I am curious about is that the Ultimate Evolution everyone comes to after playing Eve for a while?

Nobody, and I literally NOBODY can ever tell you what corp to join.
Why?
Because what corps suits you...is something personal.
The corp that suits me, doesn't have to suit you, Dave or anybody else in this game. The corp that suits you, might be aweful for me, Dave or anybody else in this game.
So, in terms of finding "your" corp, it's all up to you. There is, however, this great guide that will help you.
As for the "generally listed" corps:
RvB - High-sec PvP community consisting of 2 corps (Blue Republic and Red Federation) who are in a mutual war with each other. They do have some rules, to keep the PvP fun, but other then that...go and blow others up. Occasionally, red and blue mix to form the Purple fleets to kill 3rd parties.
EVE University - The biggest and most known "Academy" corp of EVE. They exist for 1 thing, teach new players in the way of the Capsuleer. Process to join can be long (due to the amount of new recruits vs the amount of recruiters) but in terms of general knowledge amont their teachers, they are among the best.
Brave Newbies Inc. - A corp made for new players, ran by new players when they started. They grew, a lot, very quick and are now one of the bigshots in null-sec land, and from the looks of it, they are there to stay.
Of course, there are many many other corps that deserve a mention on a list. Issue is that, that list will be different from player to player, as each player has a different gamestyle and personality so different corps will suit him.

There are 4 things that will limit what you can do: * The EULA * The Tos * Anything that CCP deems to be an exploit. * Your imagination. Enjoy EVE! Hello Dorrim, Thanks for the Reply. I am excted to really get into it. Oh and by the way, what does the "ISD" in your name stand for?
ISD - Interstellar Service Department.
They are volunteers that assist CCP in certain ways. ISD is made out of many different divisions that each do something different to help CCP. Keep in mind, they are volunteers not employees, in the end they are just normal players like you and me that give something back to CCP to make the game better.
The "main" ISD divisions you will see:
* CCL - Community Communication Liaisons > The help CCP with keeping us in line on the forums.
* STAR - Support Team and Recources > They help CCP by assisting new and old players in EVE through the help channels (and moderate those channels) as well as occasionally visit new player systems and talk to the people there.

ill take this as im a merc
One would find a (newbie friendly in your case) mercenary corporation/alliance and apply ,
if you dont have pvp experience the corp would train you and provide simple but engaging roles for you as your knowledge and experience with the game grows, you would be told what is beneficial for you to train and would likely have some ships provided for you , fo example we have an armour doctrine so our members are encouraged to train in armour tanking.
its worth noting that not all merc corps are new player friendly , we are "sortof" in that we will take newbros on but our methods would entail activly using a second account (which not a lot of new players will do).
mercenary work is exactly what it says on the tin,you get paid for your pvp prowess.
the exact details of what this entail vary from client to client, some want x amount of damages inflicted upon a target corp, some want specific people killed, some want their mining operations halted some want player sttructures destroyed some cant defend themselvs and pay for protection.

Davey!
I just got an in game email telling me something about how some corporations charge 11% IInterest and how I should join them. It was sent to me and copief another person. It seems fishy.....is my 6th Sense guiding me true?
Is that how they scam you? By saying something negative about a corp, and then gaining your trust and then you totally "Had"???
Questions, questions, questions ? Why do they always have to ask questions ?
Anyway if a corp is asking you a) a fee to join b) want to ferry your stuff without a collateral contract it's usually a scam of some sort and trust me there are enough stupid people in new eden that they can make a living out of that.
as to why someone is what ever in this game is because they chose to be a one, it's up to you whether you want to be a wolf or a sheep or a corp thief |
