It is hard to get good data on the current state of faction warfare. Most of what is available is quite old.
As a small corp with mostly new players as members, we have some questions for the experienced players who are currently involved in faction warfare.
1. Is it still true that pirates get the first shot in a plex because otherwise your standing gets obliterated? 2. Is plexing still mostly being farmed by folks who don't want pvp? 3. How many newish pilots would be the minimum to bring to war zones to contest novice plex? 4. Is it a genuine pvp thing, or really a pve plus pirate bait thing? 5. Best systems to start out as gallante?
Thanks for your counsel on this. We appreciate the advice of experienced players. We currently have a good thing going as low sec bears, and don't want to make a big move for a broken mechanic that is just about pve isk farming. |

Welcome to FW!
1. Yes, but that's simply the law of all of lowsec. Best way to live in lowsec is to forget about highsec (or use alts), imho.
2. Somewhat, but much less than before the npc tank and respawn changes. I personally find it quite acceptable now.
3. Depends. Solo works, small gang (3-4) is usually enough, during a system war you may need 20+
4. Lots of PVP, in my experience. And pirates are as much good targets as the opposing faction, sometimes better.
5. Nennamaila, Vlillirier, Hallanen, Eugales, Eha, Tannolen, Nisuwa
If you want to join Gallente and PVP, look up the corps with more kills (such as my own), contact the CEOs for advice on joining militia fleets.

What Gully said. Personally I've never played anywhere but faction war and I've been spoiled for choice in PVP the whole time. |

Having said that though, you should probably join Caldari. They need help more than we do. |

1. You should always use the 'higher ground' of defending a plex by attacking first. Waiting for them to agress will cost you lots of close fights. Any sec status erosion is easily fixed with the 'Tags for Sec' mechanic.
3. A small gang with voice comms can effectively plex 2 or even 3 adjacent systems at a time running timers individually and backing each other up when the fun starts.

I'll mostly be repeating what the other two replies have already said. But obviously my reply will be superior because I am the one saying it.
1. You lose sec status for shooting "neutral" and "innocent" pilots in low sec. Accept life in low sec, sec status is over rated. If you get serious about FW and living in low sec you'll never want that characrer to leave the war zone and will stead get alts or friends who will move stuff around for you so you can stay in the fight.
2. Absolutely depends where you go. Every faction complains about people using stabs or bailing from fights or how the dudes who take fights are high on drugs, have links and are flying your perfect counter. And then sometimes you just kill people a lot and fly through space laughing and shouting "YOLO" a lot.
3. IIRC 50-100 DPS for a novice plex. 100-150 for a small. 200+ for a medium and 300+ for a large. Large might be 400+ though.
4. Will depend on how you play the game I think. I only do FW, all my ISK comes from LP earned by killing people and closing plexes while I am waiting to kill people. I know some people who just grind missions, others who plex back water systems to farm LP. Others still to earn by providing goods and services to those of us in low sec. Generally the PVP-PVE balance is up to you.
5. None. You should join Caldari. Read some of the threads here, the Gallente always complain about how there are no fights, no honour and no courage from the Caldari side. If it is PVP you're after then obviously the Caldari Militia is where you should go for a target rich environment. If you decide to do that then I encourage you to come live in Hasmijaala. There are plenty of Gallente pilots to shoot when they aren't too busy running Quickly Retreating or building advanced sex toys.
If you insist on joining the Gallente, though, then I guess you could browse each faction's killboards to see where each side does most of their killing and what kind of ships they are getting their kills in or getting killed in. But seriously. For the State. |

depends on whether the pirate is in your militia, the allied militia, random third party or not a pirate at all. in overview settings under the appearance tab be sure to drag the "pilot is in your militia" category to the top so you avoid shooting pirates that are in your own militia. though it's best to have "is at war with your corp/alliance" at the very top, for when allied RPers wardec you :)
There's nothin' like skating away from a fight with the hull on fire, some mods burned out and a cargohold full of loot.

I can't remember ever seeing anyone post saying they are they are thinking of joining Minmatar Militia. What's with that?!?!
Join Minmatar! You are allied to Gallente so you can help them out when needed (very rarely do they need our help) and we need more pilots! Also the Minmatar militia are your last hope of getting a FW medal from CCP :)

You mentioned you were bears. What do you do, indie wise? This may affect your decision on where you decide to keep the majority of your assets. Plan on spreading them out. You don't want to lose access to 100% of your war gear on a system flip.
Do you mine? Build stuff? You might want to make sure you have Industry as a station service. If you want to make a name for yourselves, and a home, you can try taking Iralaja or Kejari and move in. Or piggy back on a developed and defended system like Vllil, Nenn. |

1. Who cares? Not purple or blue, shoot it. 2. There are plenty of farmers. There are plenty of people who want pvp. There are plenty of neutral pirates who use plexes for fights instead of asteroid belts. 3. One newbro with dscan, an afternoon's worth of knowledge and 10 hours of skills can do just fine in novice o-plexes 4. yes. 5. I'm not gonna tell you my favorite places, but killboards and in game star map can tell you everything you need to know to find or avoid fights. |

Bosboger ;) Minmatar FW theatre will give you a lot of opportunities to get good fight, since even some minmatar 'pro' corps left FW recently and became pirats. Plenty of targets, really. Even more ppl, who see you as target...

Thanks to everyone for taking the time to reply. It looks like FW is worth a look, I will take that news to my corp.
We have to go Gallante because gallante drone pilots are salt of the earth, and probably the last real men in New Eden.
The Amarr have religion without faith, Caldari have form without substance, and the minis fly cross dressing rust buckets with "target painters" and dps issues.
But the minis are alright.
So, there isn't really a choice there. |
