Hey again everyone!
So you all know about the Drifters, right?
These Guys
They are coming to Tranquility next week, flying insanely powerful battleships capable of destroying marauders in one shot with a powerful superweapon. They appear near unidentified wormholes and will warp between them and the not-so-unidentified structures; and if you approach either structure, they may open fire.
They have their own faction, the Drifters, and fly under the "Viligant Tyrannos". On the surface, this may all seem totally new.
But it may not be.
Yet again (put on that Titanium Plated Cranial Shielding, everyone)I have a theory that I seriously would like everyone to look at and consider. I'll do my very best to explain it.
Let me introduce you to Miko Bour. He was a Jovian. Bour was the leader who prevented the total collapse of the Jovians following the collapse of the First Empire. He brought the Jovians together once more under his rule, and became known as the Second Empire's first "Tyrant". However, he was no tyrannical tyrant- he was a ruler in a more traditional sense, a good but firm leaded. Under him, the Jovians were reunited for thousands of years before the second collapse due to the Jovian Disease.
His faction was ruthless and strong-armed in uniting the Jove, but they were not a tyranny- their goal was to unite the Jovians.
Now, the Drifters today operate under the name "Vigilant Tyrannos".
The names sound similar, but if you look at the meaning, it's even more interesting: "Vigilant" has a latin origin meaning aware or watchful.
The name then becomes "Watchful Tyrants".
There's just too much relation here for it to be a mere coincidence- EVE Source (where I got this info- see here and here) is the most recently published lore compendium and lists this as an important fact of the Jovians. The names are eerily similar, and their description is even more telling:
Quote:Emerging from the ruins of the Sleeper civilization spread throughout Anoikis GÇô otherwise known as 'W-space' GÇô the Drifters represent a tremendous challenge and perhaps a dire threat to the empires and capsuleers alike. Seemingly the inheritors of a legacy left behind by some of the most ancient Jove, the Drifters are unafraid to wield tremendous power in response to any who get in their way. In this regard, the Drifters are a very different conundrum than the relatively benign presence that was the Jove Empire.
Now, though we know the Sleepers are in danger as a result of the Other and the others, I do not have enough certainty to speculate on why it says "ruins of the Sleeper Civilization".
And as for the part about the Jovians, remember, this is written from an IC perspective from CONCORD: the Jovians haven't made contact in years and it is likely that this "benign presence" they talk about is precisely that- not the Jovian Directorate itself, but their contact with the empires.
But now for the important part:
Quote:Seemingly the inheritors of a legacy left behind by some of the most ancient Jove, the Drifters are unafraid to wield tremendous power in response to any who get in their way.
The Tyrannos inherit a legacy left behind by ancient Jovians- older than the modern Sleepers themselves, Bour's Tyrants were the greatest power of the Second Empire. If any legacy is implied here, it seems more than likely that this is it: the Drifters have taken up the mantle of the Tyrants. And just like the Tyrants, the Tyrannos of the Drifters do not shy away from exhibiting power to those who oppose them; Bour united the Jovians through strength and influence, and not in a gentle way in some cases (as told by EVE Source).
I am certain there is an important link here.
Now, time for another interesting thing:
A specific chronicle, Repair Man, involves two mysterious pilots who shut down a capsuleer and do... something to him.
They fly two mysterious ships and have two "names":
The Hunter and the Healer.
Now, I want you to again look to what's happening now- the Drifter battleships we see so far are piloted by either Apollo Tyrannos or Artemis Tyrannos- their names are where this fits together,
Artemis is a hunter.
Apollo, though usually associated with the sun, is also a "healer".
Though there are some differences between them and the chronicle's characters, I find this, too, a very curious "coincidence" (and considering the chronicle is from 2002, some things may have changed since then).
I also find it interesting to note that today's SCOPE broadcast (in which my backside looks pretty damn nice ), they mention the ...
A City made of Wood is built in the forest
A City made of Stone is built in the mountains
But a City made of Dreams...is built in heaven.

Fantastic theory! It certainly isn't unlike Jovians to wield immense power to prove a point. Vak'Atioth proves as much. I'm coming around to the idea that these guys are a disease-ridden, principles-intact section of the Jove, returning wit the power to raise a fourth, powerful Empire.
As for the Circadians transmitting data to us, I am SO glad you picked up on that too. When I watched the video earlier today, it made me raise an eyebrow. I don't think I've ever seen that as a player theory, certainly not a super common one, so could that be a hint from CCP?
Perhaps, if you are 'transmitted to', by a circadian seeker then your current pod, assuming you aren't podded, holds some special function or is flagged for something to come? Who knows! |

Now I have a question... where do guristas/player-built gates fit into this?
WHAT is coming through them as per the Amarran Book of Revelations?
Or... maybe the Guristas built their gate... stepped into Drifters' premises... and Drifters are peeking at capsuleer space as to see what did their Jove cousins achieved by handing out the Pod to unevolved primates?
A part of me is willing to get carried away and wish for a) the Drifters being either true neutral or chaotic neutral and b) a way so capsuleers can align with non-evil for a change.
Yet another part says that I am a hisec carebear and I will not use any PvE content that exposes myself to PvP against other player ships. Like, going into some stupid wormhole to meet the Drifters...

I guess ship spinning counts as PvE, since you get a counter and you just watch it go higher and higher through repeating precisely the same action every time.

I was on SiSi last night and saw my first drifter. Im not yet into all the lore, but this is probably the most ive been interested in it. One thing i noticed (that im sure others have as well) is the tank effect on the hull. Looks like an invuln field thats white/gold. Could this just be for decor? Or an indication of a new type of defense?
Actually, is it in relation to the 2nd shield they have? Forgot they had that till i got done typing. (I was hoping for a hull resist mod :D).
Goodpost though. I am enjoying these more and more. |

The module Reactive Armor Hardener actually comes with a golden glow on ships that equip & activate it. The glow you see could hint that drifters have a similar capacity on their hull/armor, ability to modify resistances to the damage type most used against them.
Note just a hypothesis based on your observations, would be neat tho.

Ive heard many speculate that the Jove gave us pod technology in order to turn us into a weapon. But a weapon to use against what? The four major empires are certainly a possible target. But maybe the drifters are the target. The Jove could be divided up into factions themselves. Maybe the Jove, at least the group who gave us pod technology, have a enemy, currently represented by the drifters.

Maybe the Jove, at least the group who gave us pod technology, have a enemy, currently represented by the drifters. Well, that could be true- however, I've always been of the persuasion that they have used the capsules to gather information- what, specifically, that information would be, I cannot say. However, I also do not think the Drifters are the "enemy" here.
The Other is a threat to the Sleepers, Jovians, Enheduanni, and certainly extends to the Drifters, who come from Anoikis and, more likely than not, the Construct. If they are indeed awakened Architects or Enheduanni under the mantle of the Tyrants, having left the construct to come back to New Eden, the only enemy that makes immediate sense is the Other- it is responsible for the destruction of the Sleepers' world
Of course, there's a lot we don't know yet- but these are just my ideas so far :)

Very interesting. I used to think that the Circadian Sleepers returned to New Eden to continue their original research that led them to W-Space, research for a cure of the Jovian Disease, their original reason for entering W-Space.
It is theorized that the Talocan inhabited a different galaxy and were not affected by the radiation of the collapsed EVE Gate because of their distance. It is also theorized that the Sleepers and Jovians had a strong connection to each other and that the Sleepers also suffered from the disease. Their search is believed to have been the cause of the eradication of the Talocan and the Yan Jung nation, as a cause for looking for fresh, un-altered human DNA to fix their corrupted DNA, since the Jovian disease is genetic. Could it have been the drifters carrying out the attacks on the Talocan?
Now, since the Sleepers were masters of virtual technology, their temporary cure from the disease was to put themselves in a virtual world free from any problems. Since it is unknown of the fate of the Sleepers, for there is a theory they inhabit the datacenters that we cannot break, thus it is UNKNOWN if the current Sleeper drones are controlled or maintain a highly advanced Artificial Intelligence. Given information from the Scope news saying that they communicate through implants to humans, could it be the Sleepers inhabiting the virtual world making the communication through a frequency found on implants?
Since it is believed that Jovian emotions may be completely different from ours from much gene manipulation, they could see that genocide is completely justified for their own survival (as is believed for the genocide of the Talocans). So here are the questions that can open up based on these theories gathered from archaeological excavations and research into the ancient races.
1 - Do the Drifters also carry the Jovian disease?
2 - Are they ready to take what they are looking for through force? As perhaps the Sleepers did with the Talocan so long ago?
3 - How many sub-factions and connections do the Jove really have?
4 - Are they behind the reason of Circadian Seekers coming to Empire Space in the first place? To scout out and see if anything is there for their interests? To test the compatibility of capsuleers implants to see if the DNA is the one they seek? |

While brainstorming about the Gnosis, the following came to my mind... What's with the Society of Concious Thought? Where do they fit in this whole puzzle? Will they be affected by the upcoming changes? Why do they gift us progressively more powerful ships? I know they're not a Jove faction per se, but they do have deep roots and relations with them. |

One page 135 of here "https://books.google.com/books?id=byVMAgAAQBAJ&lpg=PP1&pg=PA134#v=onepage&q&f=false" they they talk of Statics and Modifiers, the groups with in the Jovian Empire. Is it logical to assume the Statics are the Sleepers based on the discussions of the VR implementation and the apparent disappearence of the major of that group after the fall of the Second Empire? They also talk of Conclaves and of course Conclaves appear all over W-Space.
If perhaps the Statics/Sleepers left to W-Space colonized it then some catastrophe occurred to their VR-World or their Construct leaving the minds stuck permanently in Sleeper shells. And her we are killing them, basically ignorantly committing genocide to harvest what we see as resources.
Enter the Drifters. Sansha wears his pants a little to high, goes to the territory next door to Jove Space and gets himself in trouble. Jovians get pissed awaken and see we've been screwing with the Sleepers, their long lost brethren from Enclave 27 and say enough is enough.
I never liked Sansha. I say we start a new imitative to purge all Nation outposts and personnel. |
