I was carrying a core stabilizer thinking it would at least protect me from solo gankers....then I learned (the hard way) about Scrams, :)
It there anything (besides fitting three core stabilizers) to counter them with? |

It there anything (besides fitting three core stabilizers) to counter them with? When I'm engaging stabbed ships I usually fit 2 scrams = 4 points, so the options I see:
- Fit 4 stabs (or less with core bonused ships)
- Fit an Afterburner and a defensive scram, cause scrams also disable your and the opponent's MWD
- Have a fast align and watch overview / d-scan or stay aligned, essentially GTFO if somebody comes after you
- Fight back

Range can counter scrams, so if you can move fast and get out of range, they'll lose the points. |

Generally WCS should be seen as a last resort kind of thing, where if everything goes wrong you have something to fall back on. In reality the thing that saves you from being caught is to pay attention, be "slippery" and always being prepared. Many explorer hunters bring double scrams, which would require you to have 4 WCS, so it's just going to wrong if you rely too much on them.
If you want some help with that go here and check my Low Sec Travel vid, and perhaps also the other ones. |

You have several options: 1) Don't get caught! Situational awareness is the best defence against ganks. 2) Kill your opponent. Sometimes a good offence is the best defence. 3) Fit an afterburner, overheat it, and get out of range. A scram only has 9km range, so this shouldn't be too hard unless you're also webbed. 4) Use ECM, either by fitting a jammer, or using ECM drones.
Points 2-4 typically require you have some tank, you need to last long enough to kill your opponent, cover the 9km distance, or get lucky enough to land a jam and warp off.
Warp core stabs are, in my opinion, usually a failing strategy. For every scram they fit you need to fit two stabs, so you'll run out of low slows before they run out of mid slots. I have been known to fit 3 scrams on occasion, I'd like to see the ship that fits 6 stabs. Of course, fitting 3 scrams so completely ruins my fit that options 2-4 become ridiculously easy to do. |

It depends on what you are flying but typically the best way to avoid scrams is to get into warp before they can lock you. So agility mods help here. Also they can't scram you if they can't target you so ECM and damps can work. Also any kind of warp jamming mod uses cap so if you cap drain them they can't scram you. Cloaks can also help here.
Worth noting there is no magic bullet here and everything in this game has it's counter that includes defenses. I can say from experience that I was traveling through low sec once in an interceptor with agility mods and rigs and stabs in the lows. I got caught by a proteus with a legion sensor boosting him and he had 2 True Sansha scrams so that is 6 total scram points. He insta locked me and put 6 points on me. However I spent too much time figuring out what was going on even in that case I probably could have burned back to the gate and still lived. So situational awareness and a calm head is probably your best assets. |

depends on what you are doing but 8/10 times a warp core stab is a waste of a slot |

It there anything (besides fitting three core stabilizers) to counter them with? ECM Drones. Yup, nasty little buggers. You have to kill them as fast as possible with good tracking ammo ... it cost me a couple of mysterious target losses in the beginning before I realized that I should activate drone brackets on my screen
