So just now I potentially lost 200-500 million isk. How? Not by being blown up silly, but from a DED complex instantly despawning after I was forced to warp out in low armor. In the chaos of the final room of the sansha 5/10 site I did not notice the overseer cruiser get taken out by my drones since I am assuming that is why th acceleration gate despawned. I was down to the last 4 battleships but had to warp due to my tank being broken only to find out that I am now unable to warp back to claim my loot. I am unsure if these sites are supposed to instantly despawn after the objective is clear or not but in this case it really is not fair to me. After hunting sites in high sec for hours and getting a 5/10 escalation only to lose it to a strange game mechanic really makes me want to go play something else. The bounties dont even make up for the loss of the mobile tractor unit I left there as well.
I know what people are gonna say, bookmark bookmark bookmark. I get it, I should have, but, there should at least be a timer of 5-10 minutes that the site has to be empty before the gates despawn. |

Currently I use that despawn timer so I don't have to kill everything with a weak tanked ship.
For example the angel 5/10. I kill the thingy in the middle, but can't loot because the damage up close is too high and thus just bookmark it. Warp back 3 minutes later to loot.
Some kind of notice for new pilots would probably be nice.

There should already be about a two minute delay for the despawn.
Leaving an mtu there could be dangerous since anyone could scan it down and warp to it before you.
You should also not have to kill everything in the final room. If you can tank long enough you can kill the boss/structure or if you cannot then kill the web towers and start moving. You could kill a frig first and bm that wreck.
Glad to see that you got your loot though.

The timer is fine. Learn to bookmark a wreck in the last room as a failsafe. |

I always drop a bookmark as soon as I land in the last room in case stuff goes wrong. And yeah, it's a ~2 minute wait for the site to despawn once the overseer is killed. The overseer wreck itself will last... 4 hours I think? |

Wrecks usually only last two hours, though I think there is some deviation either side. It wouldn't surprise me to find that the langoliers are operating in a fixed schedule of 15 or 20 minute sweeps.
OP has learned a valuable lesson :) every pilot should learn to use bookmarks, especially when operating in space where standing still while making a coffee is dangerous!

This. If you learn anything from this experience, it is this. Since your main objective for these sites is to kill the Overseer and get the valuable loot; then get a fast, high-damage ship and kill only what is needed, bookmark the wreck, warp out, wait for despawn, then warp back and grab the loot. This will increase your isk/hr ratio immensely. |

EDIT: I managed to recover the MTU and sure enough had 450 mil in loot in it. I was very lucky that I dropped it and that it is scanable with probes but in the event I didn't use an MTU I would have lost this loot. I think this mechanic really needs a timer instead of an insta despawn on objective complete trigger.
The lesson here is instead of panicking or getting mad and forum posting, step back, ask yourself "what did i do wrong, how can I do better, how can I salvage this situation, if at all" and keep going.
