I just had 2 questions about dueling.
1) If I duel someone, can someone else passively help my opponent (with remote repairs etc)
2) If a duel starts, can they dock, change ship and come back out in a better ship and continue to duel?
I am interested in dueling but don't want to fall victim to a scam of some sort (which seem rampant in this game).
Thank you for the responses. |

1. If someone else does assist them with remote repairs then that person would end up going suspect and subject to attack by anyone for 15 minutes, that is, unless the dueling mechanic specifically blocks others from assisting (which I don't think it does).
2. Yes, as long as they don't have an active weapons timer they can dock and re-ship. This is why many duels occur away from stations to prevent this tactic. You'll often see flashie suspects sitting on stations baiting for someone to attack, they dock, re-ship, and come back out in a more powerful ship. The weapons timer is a 60 second timer that starts the moment a pilot engages another with a hostile act (shoots, uses EW, webs/distrupts/scrams, etc.) and will count down when the pilot ceases taking aggressive action. While the timer is active they cannot dock nor use stargates. |

1. Yes, but they will be flagged as a suspect and thus become a legal target to anybody in EVE for 15 minutes.
2. Yes. It's actually common practise to bait someone into a duel and then reship into a much tougher ship to kill your opponent.
They either don't shoot you at all (no weapon timer that prevents redocking) and dock up straight away now that they have a LE timer (Limited Engagement) against you and reship.
OR
They have enough tank on their "first" ship to sit out a 60 second weapon timer and then redock.
So a tip:
Try to prevent duels on a station / gate if possible.
If not, expect "foul play" to happen (it's legal though, so don't act surprised when they use this tactic against you).

Super pro tip - if you really feel the need to duel someone (which I personally dont encourage since it is not "real" pvp - and yes I know its subjective) ask to fleet with the guy you want to shoot, then warp to a safe. By fleeting with the guy you know that he is not receiving boosts and that his fleet mates cant warp straight to him. If someone doesnt agree to those terms - its likely because they intend to screw you. Of course fleeting for a duel is not perfect - as your opponent can drop fleet and join another while in combat - but at least you know you are about to be screwed if/when that happens, giving you some warning and a little chance of a escape.
I don't play, I just fourm warrior.

99.99% of people who duel are running links at the very lest. They expect you to do the same. So no duel is really solo.
Links can and do make a pretty big difference. So your a real underdog if you don't have them and they do.

FTFY
Don't duel if you are not in the same fleet.
IMO, off-grid boosts are a serious threat to EvE culture.

It has been stated by CCP want to fix off grid links, but the code base to do so is tricky.
However we have out of POS links... unless your a miner

I've heard no word of it for ages it's a feature I'd very much like to see at least tried on tq however lots of people in the community don't like the idea of instances matchmaking they think that it will take something away from eve. Personally I don't agree but I think ccp are being careful about deploying it |
