So when I started this game, I had this idea of being kind of a "good" Pvper, killing pirates and those with negative sec ratings that I see attacking others. Is this a thing? Is it viable? Would my security rating go down as well for attacking negative sec people? |

Pirates (and mercenaries) tend to overwhelm and outnumber their targets, or dock up and not fight at all. So hunting them down or trying to get the jump on them is difficult. Good luck, though!
What you might do instead is join Factional Warfare so that pirates will come to you, instead of you having to chase them down. Factional warfare mostly takes place in the high-traffic lowsec systems between empires, and a lot of pirates populate the area attacking targets of opportunity on both sides. Win or lose, you'll run into a lot of them if you have business in those systems. |

I often spend an evening hunting down and blowing up blinky pilots. Those flagged as suspect or criminal. Relaxing.

Does attacking someone that is flagged cause your own security rating to go down? Maybe I just have wishful thinking that I can attack people that are bad enough that it wont negatively effect my own rating lol. |

It is rare I leave myself to be easily caught without it being a trap and having a very good idea of what your fit is and who your friends are. Do your homework, hunting pirates is not accomplished through going in guns blazing. It is accomplished by knowing your enemy through observation and engaging at the right time.
In many cases it may be more advantageous to ignore the pirate and determine who his neutral support is and then messing with them so the ganker(s) can't accomplish their task.

By ways of game mechanics, yes it's a thing. No you won't lose standings (they are after all outlaws (sec of -5 or lower) / Suspect or Criminals).
Practically 3 things likely will occur:
1. It's a trap. They use an alt / buddy / what ever to gain for instance a suspect flag and bait you into shooting them, giving them the right to shoot back.
2. They run (log off / dock up / actual running away).
3. They have backup (from friends, their corp, neutral alts, etc) and thus you are fighting an huge force, when you started out thinking it was a 1v1 fight.
Also, 3 things to clear up:
1. There is no good and bad guys in EVE, hence there is also no good and bad PvP.
2. There are NO fair fights in EVE. If you are fighting fair, you are putting yourself at a disadvantage. If both sides are fighting fair, you both are doing something horribly wrong.
3. Solo PvP = YOU are alone, there is NO garuantee that the other party is also alone.

EVE is subjective. If you think they are the bad guys, then they are!

Security status means very little, the game mechanics have no regard for the reasons why people do things, it just sees an action and applies penalties.
You'll have to decide for yourself who the bad guys are before you can approach blowing them up.
I mean personally I think I'm really great and that the people I explode generally have it coming. However most of them don't feel the same way.

I think initially he was thinking in terms of "bad guys", but ultimately it's "How can I PVP in high-sec without lowering my sec status? Oh look, a subset of targets I can shoot with no Concord." |

tbh sec rating means nothing, but feel free to anchor yourself to whichever beliefs you wish.

1. Move to null sec 2. Classify anyone you don't like as a pirate 3. Shoot pirates all day with no penalty

like they way you think most pirates/ ankers just go after the easy targets like all games take the route with the least resistance the bulk of the game is pvp , but many players have to do pve to get enough to pay for the pvp .
so its clear the game is full of ankers |

Some of the more evil people in the game have quite high security statuses. Mine is positive 2.4 at the moment.

Wait, you are amazed that there is PvP...in a PvP game?
p.s. You do NOT have to PvE to fund PvP. PvE is one of the ways to fund it, but there are many many others.
