My gaming crew tried EVE a few months back but moved on. A few weeks ago several of us came back for another try. Right now we're running agent missions in empire space, and have realized that in pvp we are currently worthless. We have some questions and can use any advice you can give.
1. Instant Travel Bookmarks- We sorta have a handle on how they work and how to make them, and realize how important they are to reduce travel time and ganking. I read a post somewhere a week ago saying ccp may change/remove them. We dont want to spend time doing something that may be removed, so whats the story on that? Can you point us to a guide on bookmarks, mainly how to trade them between players easily.
2. PVP- We need practice, and fighting each other without losing our ships would be best. Can we shoot each other as members of the same corp in highsec without concord popping in?
3. Damage Control I- This seems like such a great module, we started using it in most of our ships. Are we missing something?
4. ECM/ECCM- Is there a dummy guide on how this works?
5. Concord- Sometimes actions are preceeded by warnings that using something/shooting something would be illegal. If say we used smartbombs or ecm bursts on a mission and some space debris was hit would concord get upset and nuke us?
6. 0.0 Alliances- Reading the forums most 0.0 alliances want players with 8 million skillpoints or better. As togeather we dont equal that, let alone individualy, are we correct in assuming we should keep learning more in empire space? Is there a noob friendly alliance? Is there a 0.0 alliance who allows visitors so we can see how tough it is out there?
7. 0.0 Space- Does 0.0 space have npc stations we could dock at/sell loot at? We assume pc stations would be off limits to us.
8. Gameplay- Right now we have 3 combat characters and 1 industrial alt. 3 more may play, but 2 want to be only industrial and avoid pvp, and one only wants to be a pirate. Anything we could say to get the industrial players to fight (we assume they would get bored only hauling/mining), and the wannabe pirate to cool his jets (before he drags us into a war we cant win) or do you feel this is the wrong approach? Remember we come from a group of mostly 30 something roleplayers, the inability to move around outside the ship is the reason most of my crew wont even give the game a chance.
9. Meta-gaming- eveinfo.com and the EVEmon program seem top notch. Any other good sites/programs out there you recommend?
10. Other- Any other wisdom you can pass on to a bunch of noobs?

5 Competent frigate pilots less than a month old can blast a cruiser flying pirate to dust. 10 competent frig pilots could do the same to a BS with a total outlay of less than 2 million in ships and gear.

Eve Search for searching these forums. Eve Info for mission running information.

Eve is the most deep complex MMOG in existence. Keep asking questions! and beware of pirates or jerks that will try to deflate your confidence. PvP In eve is incredibly complex so get some training.

Thanks for the replies so far, later this evening I'll get with the rest of my group and we'll review everything you all have to say.
Personal question, how come my forum post is with an alt I made and not my main character? I see the character pulldown on the forums and had it set to my main. |

If you are planning on getting into PvP and 0.0 space one of the first things you need to learn is not to get upset about having your ship blown up. Just buy some cheap frigates with cheap T1 modules and go out into 0.0 space. You will probably die a lot, but keep at it until you get a feel for how 0.0 space works.

No need to go that route. We will train you for a nominal fee and in the process you will shortcut that steep learning curve.

Noone knows if Instas or local will ever be nerved. While it would be good for the game, it would make a lot of people cry .
Local btw will not be nerved in Kali 1 as documented in one of the dev blogs. Go figure about instas. My guess is they are here to stay. Except that they made it impossible for new players to copy them in decent time. And just waiting for the cry-babies to quit eventually. Many player have grown accustomed to *always* have a possibility to escape unconsential pvp, and imho that is here to stay.
Originally by: Escaped Slave 2. PVP- We need practice, and fighting each other without losing our ships would be best. Can we shoot each other as members of the same corp in highsec without concord popping in?
Yes, as long as you're in a player corp, not an NPC corp (didnt test myself though, but common knowledge).
Originally by: Escaped Slave 3. Damage Control I- This seems like such a great module, we started using it in most of our ships. Are we missing something?
Only considering shield or armor resistances there are better modules. The resistances over shields, armor and structure together are their strength. But if you intend to repair a hell lot of armor, you might prefer a EANM (or however its called). Beware the stacking penalty of EANMs though. Damage Controls are neat if you go tanking.

No, you should go lower. If you're many people on at the same time, you're a formidable force for ie ratting. Gate camps will be a problem, but, really, what do you have to loose?
I say, go for it, check it out. Most of 00 is empty once you're there.

The role play alliances Ushra Khan (Minnies) and CVA (Amarr) have open space. Pick your taste.
Originally by: Escaped Slave 7. 0.0 Space- Does 0.0 space have npc stations we could dock at/sell loot at?
Some do, some dont. Check it out on the map. Player stations are mostly offlimts, yes.

Quickfit.

Get into lowsec asap. Learn the ropes, get blown up (or not, i never got blown up in my Rifter while ratting and ratted there to my heart's content).

Edited by: Beef Hardslab on 10/10/2006 21:47:11 Ratting is going around killing NPC belt rats (pirates that spawn in asteroid belts).

Ratting is the act of killing NPC's in asteroid belts, and occasionally at jump gates. We call the NPC pirate - rats, because pirates are used to denote Player Pirates.
