I am finally able to use tech II ammo. This means I finally have a use for production. I am completely clueless how to go about this. I need a 'Manufacturing For Idiots' guide. I have seen a comprehensive guide - this is to much. Anyone have a link that would help me get my feet wet?

Short answer: Unless you have a T2 ammo BPO already, it'll be a lot easier to buy than build.
Long answer: you need a blueprint (original or copy), and the relevant skills and materials listed on the blueprint. Then read the manufacturing guide in the player guide on this website.

Good info, thanks.
I just finished re-reading the guide. It looks like there would be no real benefit to manufacturing if it is solely for my own use?
The only real need I see is to be able to build the ships my Agent will (hopefully soon) be giving me. Should I do this with my most basic skills since I won't be needing to do it often?

I just started making my own ammo...now to be frank, it's only Antimatter Charges for my railgun.
What I will say is that:
1. I can make the ammo a whole lot cheaper than buying it - recovering materials from ratting kills provides a nice pile of minerals.
2. I joined a small corp that is 11-13 jumps from my starter area and it seems NO ONE ELSE is making the ammo for my gun close by. So unless I want to jump 30 minutes to buy ammo, I need to make it myself.
3. Point 2 tells me there is money to be made. I've put 6000 rounds of ammo up to see if it moves. If so, I'll make some extra ISK as well.
4. Making your own stuff is fun! Ok, that's my opinion. :)

Just remember that those minerals aren't free; they "cost" you whatever you could have sold them for.

Absolutely!
However....
I NEED the bullets. To buy them would require that I travel 30 minutes in each direction (and time=money, right?) and pay, at the rate of approximately 11,000 ISK per thousand shot. I haven't done all the math, but I can make a batch of 1000 for probably a quarter of that, if not less. The materials that I use for the bullets are the cheaper ones from the reprocessing of loot, so I can still sell the expensive minerals.

I've seen quite a few T1 BPC's made available via escrow. Does anybody ever put up T2 BPC's? Or is that just not the way people work 'em?
Still, there is something to be said for manufacturing one's own ammo. Especially if one operates close to a manufacturing station. Sure, depending on the cost of minerals it might be cheaper to buy the ammo straight from the market, but being able to create one's own supply can really be a great asset.
Back to those BPC's on escrow. Check 'em out if you are just starting into manufacturing, or are doing as I do and just manufacture stuff you want to use. Many people will put up BPC's that they generate from BPO's they have performed research on. For a price, you can get BPC's that are set with pretty good, sometimes great, material research levels and whatnot.
If you are manufacturing for convenience, it's likely worth the cost. If you are manufacturing for profit, then odds are having the BPO will serve you well in the long run since you'd eventually exhaust your BPC's.

I've actually queued up for some matarial research time on the BPO for my ammo...there will be some lab space in 11 days :(
Question...when doing materials research, you're asked to enter the number of runs. I picked 5, figuring each run would help a little. Is that the kind of thing where I should have gone a little more nuts (maybe 50-100) or what?

I hate doing math, so I'm not going to go into whether making my own ammo is worth it or not. However, making my own ammo DOES save me time in making a 6 jump trip to retrieve ammo from a hub(and in times of war, making that trip AFK isn't an option). It's in station, right there for me to use and make more of. And satisfying to boot. Yay!!

Most of my BPO's get researched to 20. Some will say that's too much, and some will say that's not enough. /shrug
GC13's guide goes into the math in great detail. The math makes my head hurt, so I just go with 20 and live with it.

I wish more people would do this, especially in the Molden Heath region. You will go far in Eve.

They take much more time to copy 1 run than to manufacture 1 run, and the owners make more profit from producing continuously than copying continuously. You can get BPCs, ask in the Buy Orders forum or the Blueprints channel.

Here is a good thread which covers the aspect of reseraching BPOs.
And yah, you can make a lot of ISK selling plain T1 ammunition and missles. |
