I guess the subject line says it all.
Right now I have a Galentine character and can use drones, which are pretty cool. However, I've found that the missiles in EVE are fantastic damage doing devices. The Galentine ships don't seem too big on missiles though. Is there a character class I could use that gets a missile advantage?
Thanks!

Caldari ships use a lot of missiles, midn you they're not that fantastic in PVP but for PVE they're godly. You'll have to learn shieldtanking though.

Missiles own in PvE.
They aren't soo keen in PvP.
So if you plan on PvPing in the future, stick with guns :D

Hey Caleb,
Thanks to you for the reply. BTW, as a noob, I've seen the term "tanking" used alot. What does that mean?

First, just so you know, you don't need to create a Caldari character to use Caldari ships; simply buy the Caldari Frigate skill from the market, and go from there. Also, you can buy the missile skills too.
"Tanking" is the process of making a ship tougher, by boosting its shields or its armor. It involves adding armor plates, armor repairers, and/or armor resistance modules, or shield boosters, shield extenders, and/or shield resistance modules.
The number of slots per ship is limited, so if you install "tanking" modules, you don't have enough slots to also boost the damage your guns do, or to run jammers/webifiers, hence why people choose roles in combat, and bring friends.

"Tanking" is a fairly standard term for online games that basically means "To stand in front and take all the damage."
"There are no atheists in shuttles" isn't an argument against atheism, it's an argument against shuttles. |

Edited by: Zosimos Sabina on 10/10/2006 21:58:52 Missiles rock in PVP too, except certain T2 small missiles which are borked. Dunno why people say they suck in PVP, you mean they suck when sniping 200 km away, but seriously, long range fleet fights are rare unless you are in a humongous 0.0 alliance.
Missiles are awesome because they have no tracking issues. They are useful up to mid-long range before the travel time gets silly, and unlike mid-long range guns are just as useful up close On paper, they do less DPS than many guns, but the tracking + ability to choose damage type to vs. lowest resist makes them on average equivalent in damage over time.

Honestly these people ahve no idea what they're talking about when it comes to missiles. They are good for PvP, and in fact are better for PvP in some ways over guns. They both have their purposes -- the only weapon in this game that I really have no respect for is lasers, but that's neither here nor there.
And relevant to your question: Caldari ships cater to missiles almost exclusively (some also use Railguns). To a lesser extent Minmatar also use missiles, but their focus is on projectile turrets. ----- Griffin -- 100,000 ISK ECM - Multispectral Jammer Is -- 20,000 ISK Standar Missile Launcher Is -- 10,000 ISK War target sobbing over losing a fight in his T2 fitted Battleship -- priceless |

Watched the whole thing, it's a very good basic tutor. Very sweet, well explained.
Just a pity about the WoW snipe...you do know that WoW is not just about 'the biggest sword', but also has resists, damage types, etc?
But all around, cudos to you!

Probably they say that because missiles are not the best for gate sniping. The close range ships will probably have the target in structure by the time the missiles get there.
To my mind torpedoes are really good close range weapons. I've experimented with a torp fitted blasterthron that did really well in duels (3 wins to 0 losses against a regular blasterthron setup), and my missile skills utterly suck.

Yea, probally the main point of picking a certain race is where you start at, and what your picture looks like.
