Hey all. Just wanted to pick people's brains and experience before I spend a couple weeks of training time.
I've pretty much pushed my stock frigates and cruisers to their limits, and want to upgrade to an elite ship, but considering that I mostly do solo missions, the occasional complex run, and some ratting, which kind of elite ship would be the best first choice; Assault Frigates, Interceptors, Heavy Assault Cruisers, etc? Also I was wondering if people have had good luck using the more specialized support ships (like Interdictors) as solo PvE or PvP ships (I know you CAN Im just wondering if they're worth the training investment at this point)
For now I mostly pilot Amarr ships, although I've jumped into Caldari and Gallente models when the situation calls for it.
Anyways, thanx gang! v^v^v Bladesmith Mining & Development; Building you a better future...because face it rookie, you're too damn lazy to do it yourself. v^v^v |

For solo missions / complexs the best ships are battleships IMO but if you want to use a tech 2 ship here's some things to consider:
Assault Frigate: easy to train but weaker of the ones I'm suggesting Heavy Assault Cruiser: hard to train but damn strong, also damn expensive, for high level complexs (not soloable), these are needed to tank the damage since they have high resists. Command ship: Can tank like a battleship, do damage like a battleship, not as slow. Awsome... but very long training time (although currently not as expensive but that will likely change). (I say like a BS but in fact the command ships are probably a bit higher dps and stronger tank if you use a balanced setup)
For pvp: Interceptors are much better than AFs since with a small ship, you want speed to get targets of opportunity and to tackle ships while your buddies gang up on them. the speed allows you both to attack very effieciently and also to run away if things look bad. Interdictors are awsome not only for soloing but also provide gangs a huge tactical advantage. Worth noting however is that their dictor sphere's only work in 0.0 and so if you play in empire they're kinda worthless. HACs: these are so damn expensive that I don't like using them for pvp, if you lose a battleship, you lose 30 mill insurance and 80 mill in mods, you lose this thing, you lose 150 mill in uninsured ship value and 80 mill in mods.... combine that with the fact that for a lot of things a BS is better (firepower, hitpoints, drones) I use them. If the cost to replace them was the same as a battleship, I would use the HAC simply because they are ... cool.
Recon ships are pretty awsome for pvp however. If you have a gang of guys in cruisers and you want to use a cruiser too, get a curse, they are not too expensive and very tough ships. For solo piracy type stuff, pilgrim is better, for gangs, curse is great because it's cheap to fit (no 70 mill for a friggin cloak) and the ship itself isn't bad these days either.
Hope that helps you decide, Cold Sweat

Command ships can tank better than battleships any day of the week.
However, the Nighthawk probably can't dish out the DPS of a Battleship. Unfortunate. T2 mission running king is the Field Command Ship (as opposed to the Fleet Command Ship). ----- Griffin -- 100,000 ISK ECM - Multispectral Jammer Is -- 20,000 ISK Standar Missile Launcher Is -- 10,000 ISK War target sobbing over losing a fight in his T2 fitted Battleship -- priceless |

I disagree .. While Command ships do indeed tank better than your common T1/T2 BS the DPS output is nowhere near the same.

you clearly use gal command ships the astarte is a great damage dealer but very few other CCs are the vulture for example has pathetic damage and struggles against high end BSs in lvl 4 missions even with excelent skills

I also cope with level 3 missions using an Enyo. As long as you use all your powers of cunning and keep an eye on your surroundings you'll be fine. Just make sure you're covered for all aspects before you go into a mission - see which type of enemy you're up against and what damage type they deal. That way you can customise your ship's fittings for every mission.

Edited by: Lord WarATron on 13/10/2006 13:59:40 I would probebly say, assuming skill training time is not an issue, then a Curse would be a good thing to go for because...
* Its cheap * It can solo 0.0 rats and lvl4's in a PvE Setup * It can be setup from BS style 145km long range sniper, to 1600plated supertanker tackler, to a mini raven or a minidomi setup - lots of flexibility. * Did I tell you its cheap? --- Slot 10 Akemons Modified 'Noble'Zet 5000 implant +8% Armour FREE |

yeah, like some others said; head for assault frigs first, then train some "basic" skills while you run lvl3 missions. if those get boring, try the lvl4 drone missions and keep up the "useful skill"-training, if you get bored again, head for heavy assault cruisers and doze off while you're doing cruiser V for 20+ days. use the time efficiently by hoarding money, you'll need it

ENYO ENYO ENYO - easy to solo lvl 3 missions (use eve-info.com).
Plus the AF skill is a pre-req to the HAC should you feel flush enough to fork out the half bil for a properly fitter uber cruiser.

Hi I can't say much about the other races as I use Amarr ships. I now fly an Absolution for all my lvl 4 missions and its a far better ship than the Apoc or Geddon. The tank is the key!

I agree, dps on a command ship is much better when it has to tank and do damage.
