So today I decided to get my hair cut as it was starting to get to long. My hair is not lengthy and i like to keep it fairly short. I have had side burns my entire life and never had any thought of getting rid of them as i keep them really tidy and they looked good. So I went to the barber shop and walked in. standing there was an Indian/Fijian lady I had not seen working there before but she had age and so would assume she had been in the profession a while. she says nothing to me and ushers me to the seat. I take the seat and she just looks at me. She goes for the shaver and turns it on. At this point I assume she is about to ask me what I want done to the sides but in the next instant my side burn was gone along with the top side of my hair. I was stunned, jumped out of the seat and flipped. One of the other hairdressers that i knew came out and fixed it up as best as she could but now I have no side burns. I actually don't mind it but i do kinda miss them.
Has anyone else had such an experience at the barber shop? |

I recently took a couple of inches off my hair. It was getting rather long and in the way, even in a ponytail.
I am not generally aware of my hair, but for some reason in almost everything I do day-to-day I can tell some of my hair is missing. I hope it will pass because it's a little unsettling.

Only had one hairdresser cut my hair right... and it was a crew cut. I just cut my own hair now... more money to play eve with

OP, you weren't at a barber shop. It's obvious you were in a hairdressing salon. There are similarities between barbers and hairdressers, but differences as well.
My advice would be to go see a real barber. Somebody who specializes in male hair and is licensed to wield a straight edge.
I saw hairdressers until I was 24. The work they did was inconsistent, and sometimes just downright terrible. I've been seeing barbers ever since, and they have done a good job every single time.

My sister's gay hairdresser friend once gave me a haircut that took a while to recover from. I was kind of growing my hair out , like a Jim Morrison or something. I thought that would be cool. But I ended up with something pretty much like a Freddy Mercury. It looked very gay culture.
Which would have been great for hanging out in San Francisco in 1990. But this was around 1986, in a small city in central Texas. Where you had around five types around: regular guys in baseball caps, goat ropers in cowboy hats and boots, clean-cut churchies, hairy rock and roll partyer-biker people, and 80s MTV hipster/preppies use hair gel and spritz. And one guy with an urban gay Freddy Mercury cut.

I've never been to a barber/salon in my life. Never had a professional haircut. My parents cut my hair when I was a kid giving me what they called a military haircut. Then in high school I let it grow long. Been long for 17 years or so. Lately I've been thinking about giving this whole haircut thing a try...
Not on my EVE character though, the dreads stay. Unless CCP gives dudes proper long hair... They were developing a vampire game FFS. Where is the long hair at? |

When I was a kid, I had sideburns that enveloped my entire ear. I cut that **** off a while ago, and now I have the typical, glorious ones. |

I used to go to the barbershop for haircuts until sometime in my late teens: I never had something happen to me as dramatic as what the OP describes, but I was never satisfied with the results, I always had to come back home and fix the haircut myself to my liking.
So at some point I figured I would just cut my own hair from start to finish. Sure, I did some mistakes at first, and my dad would comment that I looked as if I had escaped from a mental asylum.
But as with anything else, becoming proficient at cutting your own hair is just a matter of practice. So I haven't set foot on a barbershop for a couple of decades, and my haircut is exactly the way I like it to be. And as a bonus, I don't have to endure hairdressers trying to "make conversation" while I would rather remain silent with my own thoughts.

I found the perfect barber and it's a woman.
I love her for it and would marry her, but I don't want to risk losing her as my barber after a falling out.
"OK take the house... you'll still cut my hair right?"
Don't post on the forums, devs don't read it. Send GMs your questions with support tickets. Don't be silent.
